Treacherous spots on the trail where you must either get off of your bike or risk serious injury when your tire gets caught . My wife and I each fell at separate spots on the trail at these transition points. The solution is to stop, dismount, and walk to the other side, then remount and proceed to the next obstacle. Your momentum is completely disrupted, but that’s the price one must pay for safety. We have been riding rails to trails for over ten years and never. I repeat. Never have we encountered such slack disregard as what we met with on today’s ride. There are ample reasons why the rails get ripped up before opening these trails to bicyclists. I suspect in this case it is due to the interests of a small group of railcar enthusiasts that use the rail corridors for their joyriding hobby. For the rest of us, my advice is to stay completely clear of this one.

The NH Bureau of Trails has had ample warning that this trail is very dangerous! There are multiple reports of serious injuries and even airliftings on Traillink. Com. They should either fix it or prohibit bikes. Are they waiting for somebody to die?!

We biked parts of the trail several times over the weekend. It is a great way to get around and see the sites without a car. We went from Wolfeboro to Albee beach (no beach pass needed if you bike in) and Wolfeboro to the Wright Museum. The trail is well maintained and has beautiful scenery!

This trail was perfect to ride with family and kids. No cars and an easy flat trail with great view of the lake.

Jumped on this trail during a walk from our hotel on Lake Wentworth into Wolfeboro. It was a pleasant surprise. A really nice walk adjacent to Wolfeboro.

Trail is alongside an old railway tracks. Well maintained and easy walk. A lot of shaded areas. If you like to walk, run or bike, this is a great trail for you.

Went for nice walk on the trail which was scenic and very relaxing. We only walked a few miles of it but worth a visit.

Visiting in Wolfeboro, I met up with friends for one of my activities - a trek on the Cotton Valley Rail Trail from the Back Bay area on Railroad Avenue. The trail extended some 12 miles into Brookfield and Sanbornton/Wakefield.
The Wolfeboro part of the trail is scenic with views of the bay, buildings on the other side, and some wildlife – mostly birds, occasionally.
There was also parking near the trailhead and a small park adjacent to the trail.
I found the hard-packed trail pretty level and fairly wide, so it readily accommodated bicyclists and people in wheelchairs as well as people traveling on foot in opposite directions. During our visit, it was a about 50/50 for bicyclists and pedestrians.
On another day, I went to Sanbornton and trekked along part of the trail from Turntable Park which is the terminus of the trail. That end also has a picnic area.
As far as the trail itself goes, I liked the Wolfeboro end better.
I rate the Cotton Valley Rail Trail at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit, especially to bicyclists.

On this snowy February day, we hiked the rail trail across the lakes. Our family of five wore snowshoes although the trail was hard pack and ice. Nice to get out, see some ducks and small birds. Lots of people were out enjoying this winter day. Great hike and very flat with historic signs along the way.

Took a walk on Cotton Valley Rail Trail the foliage was beautiful with the reflection in the lake of the amazing colors
