Docents are very knowledgeable and museum memorabilia will take you back to your childhood if you are of certain ages. Children will be fascinated by a typical schoolroom their grandparents attended.

I toured the museum with Fred Behnke, the founder's son and saw the museum from a different light. More from the family's point of view as most of the items are from the family collection or from the original farm that was in Paramus.
The museum is great for kids in that they can see what life was like without cell phones. Gives a interesting view of Bergen County from the turn of the 20th Century to today. A hidden gem!

So much to see on 2 floors of this cute historical Museum. Photo's of famous Paramus landmarks all over town. Antique tools and food packages. I loved the toys and furniture displayed within an arms reach. Plan to spend at least 2 hours reminiscing.

I had some time in the afternoon to stop by the Fritz Behnke Historical Museum on the way home from a function I was on earlier. It really is a nice little museum that deals with the agricultural and new commercial districts of Paramus, NJ. It really shows how the county has changed in 100 years.
The family owned a farm where the present strip malls and highway sit and most of the objects in the museum are from the family's farming history. I was taken on a tour of the museum by the owner's son, Fred, who went over the history of their farm in Paramus, most of the possessions that came from their family including some of the Indian arrowheads that were found on the property, their old farm equipment and history of the Paramus Police and Fire Departments as well as the schools. Check out their history of 'Children's Play" with retro toys and their picture collection of old businesses from the 60's and 70's.
In the basement is more of the family's agricultural objects and if you happen to catch Fred at the museum, have him give you the tour. You can see the whole museum in about an hour but plan on two and really look at the displays. It is interesting how the area has changed so much in such a short period of time. Well worth the visit.

This museum is great for children. It shows how things were in Paramus in the early 1900"s. They have a lot of farm and other objects that date back to that time so you could see what the one room schoolhouse was like. They have things from the hospital also.

Small but very organized museum holding the history of Paramus and Bergen County. I did not have a lot of time to spend here, but I thought it was very interesting. It is not a NYC museum, but I would recommend it if you are in the area.

It's a very small museum - a little sleepy - but nice to visit..... What can I say - it's NOT a NYC Museum - but it's still worth a look

Interesting museum- started by local original resident. Museum has a large variety of exhibits, both of local and colonial history

We love this museum. My husband and I both grew up in Paramus, as did our parents. So we love walking through here and seeing how Paramus used to look. The items that this museum has secured are irreplaceable pieces of history. I hope it stays here for future generations to learn from.

A small museum packed full of interesting memorabilia. An amazing number of pictures and information about Paramus and Bergen County over the past 100 or so years. Also, lots of household items and miscellaneous "stuff" that will bring back memories to anyone over the age of 70. Or teach anyone younger than that what life was like in another era . My husband and I were lucky enough to wander in on a Sunday afternoon, and were almost the only ones there. A volunteer docent spent the entire time explaining everything to us, or leaving us alone to wander when that's what we felt like doing. Again, an absolute treasure of a museum.
