We knew Sorwa Bhutan from a friend who had travelled and trekked about some years ago with the owner-and-guide, Sonam.
Communication for the trip planning , itinerary and air tickets booking was responsive via emails and instant messaging (for faster response). We booked the entire package, including our air tickets with him without any issues. We had told him that we wanted to travel from Thimphu to Lhuntse in East Bhutan, something which could be a challenge due to the current road conditions and long distance;. nonetheless, he reassured us and drafted an itinerary which suited us.
Sonam has deep knowledge about Buddhism, Bhutanese history and geography landmarks, and even floral & floral. So I would say that Sonam is best for both trekking as well as cultural/pilgrimage tours. He speaks excellent English by the way. He would be your best friend and guardian along the trip, sharing and discussing with us views on any subject under the sun, while helping us the make sure we are comfortable.
Due to the traveling conditions such as road conditions, our preferred interests on certain landmarks, the planned itinerary could be adjusted and hence the flexibility of the tour to suit our needs. He would make an effort to discuss and reconfirm each day, the activities of the following day and to see if any adjustment is needed.
He explained the histories of the dzongs, the Bhutanese monarchy, the Buddhist masters, and the Buddhas/Buddhist deities in the Goempas and the Dzongs we visited. On some days when we are lucky, he would point out to us the animals and birds such as deers, owls, eagle, monkeys and langurs. We are enriched.
We have also come to discover that the entire trip is very personalised for example finding the best local Bhutanese food as we requested, stopping enroute to wander to some paddy fields and local farmhouse for more unique photography opportunities.
On our trip back home, our flight on Drukair was delayed for 7 hours, and he even went the extra mile to return to the airport (Paro) to bring us back to spend some time in Paro town instead of us getting stranded in the yhe airport … while at that point when we contacted him, he was actually almost near Thimphu. (about 45 minutes away).
Overall, I would strongly recommend any one who would like to visit Bhutan to book with Sorwa Bhutan. Just tell him your preferences and I am sure he will sort them out for you.

As first timers to the sacred country, Bhutan, we took a 7-day tour with Sorwa Bhutan Travels and I must say it's the best choice we ever made. We covered 5 cities/towns; Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangdue Phodrang and Trongsa. Timing-wise is just right though we had to check-in and -out the following day. We were accommodated in 3-star hotels and they are mostly very clean and all hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful. My first impression of Bhutan - a naturally pristine country with crystal clear rivers, refreshing forests and breathtaking sights of mountains after mountains. Their sanitary hygiene standard is on par with Japan and put most of the other Asian countries to shame:) Bhutanese cuisine is surprisingly very delicious with a handful of ingredients used in most meals. Most of the dishes are vegetable-based, like potatoes, cabbage, egg plants and one must not leave without trying their famous chilli cheese!
Our trip comes with a combination of visits to the dzongs, chortens, temples, nature hiking trails and of course the ascend to the Taktshang monastery. We are extremely grateful to Sonam and Yangku, our guide & driver or more appropriately our hosts and friends, who extended their great hospitality, help, patience and humour to the 7 city dwellers. They have gone more than the extra miles to ensure our comfort and safety, and never failed to fulfil any requests small or big! Thanks very much Sonam & Yangku for you made our trip complete! Nga Druk gai!
P/S: Travel during the cold season is typically low tourist period, so the good news is you don't have to compete with others for picture perfect photography but you do need to be prepared for chilly hotel rooms that may not be adequately warmed.
Our trip comes with a combination of visits to the dzongs, chortens, temples, nature hiking trails and of course the ascend to the Taktshang monastery. We are extremely grateful to Sonam and Yangku, our guide & driver or more appropriately our hosts and friends, who extended their great hospitality, help, patience and humour to the 7 city dwellers. I highly recommend this friendly and tourist-centric company. 7 of us in our group, and none of us had much understanding of what to expect before the trip. Our trip combined cultural aspect and some trekking at Phobjikha Valley as well as hiking up to the Taktshang Monastery (this is a must visit).
Sonam and Yangku were just like friends, so passionate and attentive throughout the entire tour. They had provided us with the most unforgettable and authentic Bhutan cultural experience, with pleasant surprise almost on each day. We love particularly the experience of wearing Kira outfits which made us felt so lady like and beautiful!
Love this family-run tour operator, accommodations owned and meals provided by them are so cosy (comfortable beds, good views) and awesome (friendly, flexible and accommodating). Our stay was made complete by their authentic service that no other hospitality companies could match!

My husband and I highly recommend this family-run travel service in amazing Bhutan. Our guides Sonam and Dorji, brother and sister, treated us to a combination cultural and trekking tour that introduced us to the authentic beauty of this special country and its people. We did a 12-day tour that included travel to Thimphu, Trongsa, Punakha, Bumthang and Paro. We stayed in clean and comfortable 3-star hotels with excellent local food as well as one night in a country farmhouse and one night in a monastery. Everywhere we went, we were welcomed with enthusiasm and graciousness. Highlights included meals at the family homes in Trongsa and Bumthang,observation of a philosophical debate at the monastery and a trek through the lovely Phobjikha Valley where the unique black-necked cranes come to winter. Many tours of temples, fortresses and museums provided much education about the history, culture and religious beliefs of this predominantly Buddhist country aptly named the Kingdom of Happiness. This is a perfect experience for those who appreciate private tours with a personal touch and lots of flexibility versus the large group rigidity of most travel companies.

My boyfriend and I highly recommend this amazing tour company. Our guides, Sonam and Khandu, were wonderful and provided us with an authentic and beautiful tour of Bhutan’s temples, monasteries, stupas, towns and mountain environment. They were highly attentive to our every need, including making sure we were always well fed and hydrated, and answered all of our many questions. We had comfortable accommodations with lovely views almost every night, and many of the meals featured the delicious local favorite, “chili cheese”. This tour is for those who are interested in a deep look into Bhutan’s history, culture, and ways of being - don’t come if you are not interested in Bhutan’s unique and deeply spiritual, Buddhism - based ways of governing and living. The only thing we didn’t like were the crowds of other tourists at Tigers Nest and all the trash the tourists leave behind. The highlight was definitely the one night trek, where we ascended probably more than 1000 meters into the peaks of Bhutan. The hike was challenging and invigorating, with quiet and breathtaking scenery, and the company made sure comfortable meals and luxury camping accommodations were ready for us when we arrived. For a couple of modest American tourists, the overall 6 day spiritual tour was the perfect introduction to Bhutan and comparable in price to traveling in Europe for the same amount of time. While we would have been just as happy without any of the luxury bells and whistles provided, it was appreciated. Overall, a fantastic experience - highly recommend for the spiritually motivated traveler.

This has got to be the best road trip I have ever taken. Everything just fell into place perfectly. The 10 days trip was fulfilling as everyday was packed with adventures and new experiences. I could not get enough of the majestic mountains and the endless green scenery that greeted me each day. Thanx to the excellent planning by our experienced guides.
Warm and attentive, Sonam and Bums Wangchuk made me feel at home. The whole experience was more like hanging out with friends and going on a road trip together. :-) The close friendship formed during this trip is what made my time in Bhutan memorable and truly special.
