Nice walk. Not very long. Not slippery, on a clear day. Lovely river gorge. Selfies not recommended due to drop offs. Popular tourist destination.

If you are heading east from Bumthang, stop at this site at the entrance to the Tang Valley. Your tour guide will tell you the story of Pema Lingpa - but aside from the spiritual significance, it's a place of amazing natural beauty.
Then head further up the Tang Valley to stay at Ogyen Choeling Heritage House.

it is around 15 minutes walk from the nearest road point. It is a must visit site for a spiritual tour in Bhutan.

A very short walk to the lake(about 300 meters) but one should be carefull not to slip. It is a hidden interesting lake and the story ia very nice.

A bit disappointed, considering the travelling and walking time. It isn’t exactly a lake, just a part of a flowing stream that’s calm. Have to climb down and down to vantage viewing points. So do wear pants/shorts and sensible shoes. Do be careful too, as the water level can be quite high, depending on seasonal times.

An easy walk to this site. One must be careful approaching the actual rock - there have been fatalities! Through a small gate, there are steep steps which will take you to the river Take great care.

Easy and short hike but be careful going down to the lake because the trail is very steep. It’s not an actual lake as we know it but nevertheless picturesque and a good place for photo ops.

Burning lake is beautiful and peaceful. It’s a sacred sight to the Bhutanese people.
The surrounding forests are dense and the air is fresh.
Highly recommend visit.

During my Bhutan Tour, when I was covering Bumthang district I came to know about this Burning Lake. The Burning Lake, Mebar Tsho is located along the way to the Tang village over the feeder road under Bumthang valley. It takes approximately thirty minutes’ drive to the Mebar Tsho from main Chamkhar town. The lake lies between the forest and you have walk down for just 10-15 mins. You can spend some quality town sitting there around woods and water. You can hire or rent out taxi or bike to go to this place. Rates are little bit higher due to remoteness of the area.
Just to add, It is one of the most sacred sites in the region as it is related to the renowned religious treasurer (Terton) Terton Pema Lingpa. Pema Lingpa is considered an incarnated disciple of Padmasambhava who discovered treasure within the lake in late 15th century.
I would recommend to visit this place, if you’re visiting Bumthang District.

A tricky trail/hike to reach the Burning Lake, mind your steps but worth going. You will find a Black River, be carefull at the cliff !
