A very enjoyable easy day hike just east of Las Cruces. Highlight is the box canyon and (occasional) waterfall at the
end of the trail. Free parking - no fee, but it can get a bit crowded weekends.

This is a nice, easy hike with lovely views. The trail is not well marked at the beginning but was easy to follow after that. There is an old rock house near the end. If you are lucky, and there has been enough rain, you’ll be rewarded by a “small” waterfall. If no waterfall it’s still a nice hike. Be aware that there are no facilities.

Nice easy hike on a well-marked trail, though there are several paths you can take. Only a couple miles round trip. At the end of the hike you are rewarded with a trickle of a waterfall and an old rock house that is nearly collapsed. The waterfall flow depends on recent rain. Dog friendly trail unlike Dripping Springs.

We love this hike because it's easier then some in the area. It's also has shorter options. Oh and it's beautiful.

This was just lovely, as you walk into the canyon you begin to see just how beautiful it is. I have a bad hip so found parts of it a bit difficult but with my walking stick it was doable. I want to go back again soon. No facilities.

We decided to introduce hiking to our new fur kid, Z. She is almost 2 yo but she is only about 4 weeks new to us. Never having hiked with a dog before, we were a little hesitant. We decided to go early on a Saturday morning and, boy, did we have a wonderful time! It had been raining throughout the week so we were pleased to see the waterfall flowing. Z did so well! The trail is pretty easy and laid out, so you can get lost. It is dog friendly as long as you keep them on the leash. It's clean (we didn't even see dog poop) and the views are phenomenal! We've been back to hike a few more times since!

This is an easy hike, very secluded with beautiful views all around you. You feel like you have traveled out of town into the country, but you have only traveled a short distance.

We arrived here on our return trip this year only to find a locked gate across the entrance. The sign said that it didn't open until 8 o'clock and it closed at 5! Last year we were hiking by 7:30! Doesn't make much sense since it is light LONG before 8 o'clock! Thankfully the guy that opened the gates followed us up the road and unlocked them before 7:30. He never so much gave us a wave as we sat there beside the gate watching him.
It is always a nice hike here with plenty of parking and many different trails to choose from. We usually see deer first thing in the morning and this time was no exception. There are lots of birds and up at the ruins there was a green-tailed towhee that was hopping around a few feet in front of us as we sat on the rocks. This year there was a better path to the waterfall back in the canyon that saved the scramble up the rocks.
Beautiful area and best of all it's free!

The parking lot is located at the end of Soledad Canyon Rd. The trail is well groomed with a slight incline that leads to a box canyon with beautiful waterfall with shade provided by a cluster of maple trees. The waterfall is worth the 3 1/2 mile round trip and is ideal after a rain with the water is flowing. A side user trail to the north of the main trail will take you by an old stone homestead. Unfortunately vandalism has taken its toll on the structure over the years. Perhaps someday it will be restored. That said, the user side trail is a nice diversion from the main trail. Another trail leads off to the east and south of the main trail taking you through several arroyos before it links back to the main trail. This alternate route however is more strenuous because of the ups and downs as you traverse in and out of the arroyos. It should be noted the the canyon is really called Bar Canyon as Soledad Canyon heads to the south and east and eventually goes into military property which is off limits to the public, You won't regret having hiked to the waterfall and enjoying its splendor. It's a good hike any time of the year. Just go early during the hotter periods.

This is a great place to hike and take your pet with you. Dogs and horses are allowed on the many beautiful trails that are available to hikers.
