A wonderful organisation: you arrive in the morning and are surprised by a breakfast buffet. After 3 o'clock at Sea, a hot meal was provided: soup and mac and cheese! they take plenty of time to give everyone the chance to get a closer look at the sharks.

Nothing to complain about. My wife and I did something like this for the first time and had no previous experience with snorkeling/diving.
The offered transfer from our hotel was punctual and reliable.
The local team took great care of us.
We were lucky with the weather and also saw sharks...Top
Remember...the ocean is not an aquarium. Luck is also part of seeing something.

The trip is a beautiful experience. The staff was very professional, welcoming and helpful. The boat was great. I enjoyed spending half a day at sea. The cage is totally safe and the sharks come totally up close and personal. I would do it again. Everything was well organised. Breakfast and light lunch were also great quality and there are some nice souvenirs to buy.

fantastic tour very informative and loads of fun we arrived on time and found ourselves a little compressed time wise to change etc ended up changing in the little washroom very bouncy

Thank you for your 4-star review, We are sorry you felt a bit compressed for time. We work with the tide and weather conditions, if we have a very low tide like on the day you came with us we have to get out of the Harbour sometimes a little bit more 'spritely' than usual, we are sorry you ended up changing in the washroom on the boat as it does get a bit bouncy due to the swells, but we are delighted you had a fantastic tour.

Brilliant trip with great personable staff and a very interesting and passionate talk by their marine biologist. We saw lots of Bronze Whaler sharks, short tailed rays and a cheeky seal. The only negative was we were all rushed at the start with no timing warning.

Thank you so much for the 4-star review, we are sorry you felt rushed at the beginning. We work with the tide and weather conditions. Sometimes if we have a very low tide like on the day you came with us we have to get out of the Harbour a little bit more 'spritely' than usual. We are happy you had a lovely experience otherwise and got to see our amazing wildlife.

So much more than expected and great value for money.
I paid for the addition transfer and Henrico was super friendly and accommodating (a couple wanted to stop and grab a quick snack on the way).
Journey is about 150 mins, and on arrival there is fresh fruit, yogurt, toast, coffee and fresh (out the over) muffins.
Safety brief by the skipper and away we went.
WSP are a really professional outfit. The Marine Biologist (Hannah) provided an insight into the recent (well known) behaviours of the killer whales and great white sharks.
All the equipment is high quality and looked new. Wet suits were clean and dry, with boots hoods and masks provided. Didn’t feel like they’d had the same equipment for years and you get the impression that they reinvest in the customer service experience.
I won’t cover the diving, but it’s very different to just ‘watching sharks go past’…you can do that in an aquarium. Everyone had a few heart in mouth moments :)
Back on land and a nice homemade lunch was provided and you get to see the video. Hannah takes a video throughout the day and lots of underwater shots of your actual experience. You can buy or not buy….but supports the conservation efforts…and these guys are conservationists first.
Gift shop has some nice souvenirs of the experience.
Journey back just as smooth.

The trip was sooooo amazing. The crew were fantastic made you feel really comfortable in the place of work and also in the boat. Seeing bronze whaler sharks and sting rays was bucket list stuff 🦈

Amazing experience. Face to face with beautiful creatures. Crew and all support staff were excellent - everything fully explained and answered all question before and after. Breakfast before and lunch after was great.

I had the most wonderful experience with white shark projects, got see some bronze whaler sharks up close. The team are fantastic and so passionate about marine conservation and education. I highly recommend to others

We say to see a White Shark In more abundance May- November is the best time. Over the years sightings at specific times have been harder to predict. Environment factors and predation of orca has seen fewer Great White Sharks In the bay but that does not mean we still do not see them. It is better to call us before hand or enquire on Whattsapp or email so you know what sightings of which shark we have had. We also have a big population of Bronze Whaler sharks and we can observe the Seven Gill Cow sharks throughout the year also.

It is true that we had 1Orca in our area at the middle of May and our sharks disappeared for +-19 days. We have been very lucky as our sharks have returned since then.
As we are working with wildlife, we can never guarantee sightings

We take children over the age of 6 years old. Our skipper prefers them to be 9 years or older to go inside the cage but we will judge it on the size/height of the child also

Hello! We've booked a dive with White Shark Projects on 29th August- (I'm a shark fanatic and never seen a great white, so we're coming to SA for our honeymoon to finally try and see a shark!) but we're worried as we've heard that sightings are really down and the season may have finished early this year. It's great to read your review as it was just a week or so ago and you saw 5!! I totally understand it's nature and nothing can be guaranteed, but just worried regarding the orca presence and people commenting that the season is now over. I so badly don't want to be out of luck! Any advice would be very gratefully received! TIA

I am delighted to meet another shark fanatic!
But I completely understand your concern.
All I can do, is tell you how the situation stands at the moment...
The Orcas were last spotted at the beginning of July.
The sharks have been back for a couple of weeks now. At the beginning, they were still a little skittish, but they now seem to have relaxed now.
Here in Gansbaai, there is no definite season for Great Whites, we just have a perpetual presence of Great Whites moving through the area.
Winter is considered the best time to view the sharks as, generally speaking, there are more GW's in the area, plus the big males tend to arrive just in time for the pupping season of the seals.
In winter, our water is also a fraction warmer than it is in Summer, which makes the sharks feel a little more frisky, as they have more energy to spend.
So, no, I won't say the season has ended. We just have to hope that the sharks come to introduce themselves to you on your dive.
If I may make 1 recommendation though... The Western Cape is not known as the Cape of Storms for no reason, especially this time of year. So, if I were you, I would keep at least 1 other day free, in case we have to postpone your tour, due to weather or sea conditions.
I wouldn't want you to miss out on this opportunity, due to bad weather. Also, in the event of not seeing a shark on your tour, then you can also reschedule to come again the following day and try again.

Good morning!
We just hold our breath, like you do when you swim in a pool.
The cage is not completely submerged - the top of the cage is above the water's surface, so you just go up and down in the cage in order to breathe.
No diving experience is necessary.
Our winter months are the best season to view the sharks, so from May - August.

Any information on doing this dive would be appreciated as I am in the UK and I am trying to save up for my wife and I to Dive in a cage to see these beautiful Sharks.
So Prices of the Dive,Pick up from Cape Town, how far in advance would you book? What if you book the holiday and there is no dive spaces? or do you book the dive first then book the Holiday around this? I would have to book for the end of July/beginning of August is this a good time? How much is it to get to Cape Town from UK?
All information welcomed, I am now 52 years old and have been wanting to see a Great White shark since I was a child.

I am delighted to meet another shark FINatic!
Thank you for your questions, I will do my best to give you all the relevant answers.
So allow me to start from the beginning:
July/August is the best time of year to view Great White Sharks here in South Africa - they prefer our winter months as it is the pupping season for the Cape Fur Seals.
Our water is slightly warmer in winter too, which makes the sharks a little more frisky as they have more energy to spend. Also, our school holidays finish towards the end of July, so if you come after that it is also a bit quieter.
We are located in Gansbaai, a 2 hours' drive from Cape Town. We charge R400 per person for a return transfer.
But, if I may make a suggestion, I would recommend that you perhaps consider staying in Hermanus for 2 or 3 days. Hermanus as you may know, is the best place to view Southern Right Whales, who visit our shores during our winter months.
Hermanus is only a 35 minute drive from Gansbaai, and has a plethora of activities, restaurants and accommodations to choose from.
This will also allow you to make a double booking - what I mean with this is that if you want to dive say on the 2nd of August, then I suggest that you make another booking for either the 3rd or the 4th of August too. This way, if we need to cancel a dive due to bad weather, then you still stand a chance of going again as you will already have your space booked and you are still in the area.
But, in the event of having a successful dive on the 2nd of August, then you just cancel the other booking.
It is such a catch 22: winter is the best time for the sharks, but the worst time for our weather. And too often have I seen the disappointment when we've had to cancel tours due to weather and then our clients are unable to reschedule due to their pre-planned itineraries. And I most definitely would not want you to miss out after having waited 52 years for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
If you send me your e-mail address, I can send you some more detailed info on the dive etc.
So I suggest that you book your flights first, then your accommodation and then your activities - I am happy to offer you some recommendations for all of the above in our area. I had a quick look on Emirates, their flight via Dubai is about 550 GBP. British Airways flies direct to Cape Town, but it may be more expensive.
Our shark cage diving is R1800 per person.
My only other recommendation to you would be that you don't try to schedule too much into your itinerary - allow yourselves some time to relax and to truly soak up the atmosphere, nature and the people of our country.

Ideally have a go pro strapped to your chest and record everything. This lets you have your hands free to hold on in the appropriate place which you will need to do and not miss a thing.
