‪Great Swamp Conservancy is a nature center with pathways outside through the meadow, woods, and swampy areas. You'll want to wear your boots! Bring your binoculars for wildlife viewing. Trails are opened throughout the day. You probably won't be able to get through the areas with a stroller or wheelchair. No fee. They also offer educational programs through the year and have Spring and Fall Migration Festivals.‬

‪We were there last week for a Folksmarch, our first visit. Enjoyable walk. Lots of educational signs and handouts. Environmentally conscious folks, nature lovers and hikers will enjoy this place. I'd like to see it more publicized - it could become the type of resource Beaver Lake is.‬

‪Very nice people at the visitor center. We loved the boardwalk area. Many herons were nesting and were quite active. ‬

‪Take a short drive North of Canastota right on Main St. We visited during their Annual Great Fall Migration Fest...Live Animals, wagon rides, chicken BBQ, old tyme fiddle music, fine arts & crafts, raffles of goody baskets and the Lady Bug Cafe. They teach photography & drawing classes & Yoga classes, too! Take a hike and bring your camera. Fun for Young and Old! The volunteers make this place so special! Everyone here is SO HAPPY! It will lift your spirits to come here!!!‬

‪I live very close to The Swamp and never went there. But, I have attended different programs on nature there and recommend it for locals and travelers.‬

‪Nice walking trails around the swamp. They also have some interesting presentations by various groups. Good nature programs. I wish it were a little closer to where I live. Check out the trails, get some exercise, and experience some local nature.‬

‪This is a well run nature center, that does bird watching and many educational programs. Very accessible and perfect size for those who want to see a lot but not walk a lot to do it.‬

‪I came here with a group this past September and was blown away by how accessible this conservation area was. About a half hour east of Syracuse (where my friends and I hand stayed the night before) I realize now that I could have biked here and back for a day trip.

Because it was early Fall, leaves all around the conservancy were starting to change color and the morning sun set this backdrop for some beautiful photography.

We got there in the morning for a nature walk and were surprised to find "Mike", the founder of this "Swamp", up and about the property. He talked to us about how he and his organization's supporters had been maintaining the swamp lands for close to 20 years. Because of the work that Great Swamp does, this location has been able to foster all sorts of beautiful birds and other animals that would have otherwise been driven out of the area by farming or property development.

Miles of beautiful wooded trails and more varieties of wildlife than I could count really made the place stand out on my tour of Central New York.

After our walk, we sat in the cabin that housed the location's offices, education center and gift shop for a quick coffee and we got to talk to staff about the Swamp's recent developments. I even got a sweet t shirt to remember the place by.

I would definitely come here again, Mike told me the snowshoeing is supposed to be great around this time of year.‬
