Visiting the Albany area from Michigan, we went here on a whim at the end of a busy day. Great find! Beautiful falls and view of a operating hydro power plant. The massive cotton mills and warehouses have been converted to loft condos. Very impressive! Lot's of interesting old buildings in this town.

Even though the water levels were low, we really enjoyed visiting Falls View Park to see the Cohoes Falls. We enjoyed seeing the falls from both vantage points - upper observation spot and the lower spot. We also enjoyed watching the water flow from the water plant. Worth the effort walking down the stairs to the lower viewpoint.

Reminds me of Niagara Falls. You can get closer by descending a long stairway, but the only way out is back up the stairs, so be sure you are fit to climb the stairs. There’s even a sign about this at the top of the stairs. Chain link fence prevents people trying to swim, for good reason.

My friends from Arizona wanted to see a waterfalls. I picked Cohoes Falls because it would be easily accessible after sightseeing in Albany. The Cohoes Falls are on the Mohawk River. They are 90 ft high and 1000 ft wide. My friends were impressed.

Fun, quick roadside stop. Take the stairs down to lower area for a better view. Park across the street in the small lot. There were some people picnicking when we were there, which would be fun to do.

Shirt stop is all this is. 15 minutes. Good falls it not amazing. Very far away. Falls in Patterson NJ are more impressive!

Stopped here for a look at the falls. Took a walk down the stairs to the lower area to get a close up look at the falls and we spotted what we think was a muskrat collecting grass for a nest (we think). That was very cool. There was nowhere to really walk around so we headed into town to a brewery which ended up being closed, Wednesday is their brew day....but we ended up going into the bakery in town and I got a delicious oatmeal cookie cream sandwich and my husband got a cupcake. We got coffee in a very cool coffee shop, bought some cards in there that are made of flower seeds, oh and they have swings instead of chairs at their front window. Then walked around in a great little antique shop. Cute town trying to improve themselves. Beautiful flowers everywhere!

Beautiful, powerful waterfalls. Wasn't exactly sure where to park, and there wasn't much surrounding the falls, so you likely won't spend much time there.

You can easily see these waterfalls by driving up North Mohawk St, parking in free lot across the street, and walking across a wide footbridge. There are a few picnic tables to your left and some signs explaining the geology of the area. There are no bathrooms, visitor center, or other infrastructure.
There is a long set of steps you can take to the lower level ( i did not go, so cannot comment). The falls are quite wide, and definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Route 9 is the long way. Take I787 north from Albany to Cohoes. When it ends at Route 32, go straignt through the light onto Mohawk Street. Continue on Mohawk for about 3/4 mile. You will see signs for the falls overlook pointing to the right, behind the old mill housing buildings, and then when you get to St. Patrick's Church you hang a right and the falls overlook parking is just up a bit on the left. Walk across the street to much better views of the falls. Hope they're still running strong for you today!
