I have fond memories of this place form childhood. Updated in 2018 it now includes a small fast-food restaurant at the top. granted it was $62 for 2 burgers and a taco, but at least it was tasty! Great place to start any hike. Showers not currently open due to COVID.

This the is Adirondack Mountian Club hospitaltiy junp off to the high peaks which provides snacks, some clothes, maps, information and even a shower.

This is a few miles off the main road, but if you want good hiking advise or weather conditions etc..this is the place to go. THe people here are very knowledgeable and helpful. Also a small store of outdoor necessities...and ADK club souvenirs and hats, shirts etc....also rent s snowshoes

Very knowledgeable people, fun place near Heart Lake, a must to stop before hiking, camping or visiting the high peaks area.

Great place to stop off for forgotten gear, map, bathroom break, water a snack or a souvenir. Good information too from the desk about weather and trails. Big map of the area and the center/store now takes up the whole building and they opened it up. Love the renovation. Bring your ADK card for your discount when shopping.

The High Peaks Information center provides a wealth of information about the Adirondack Mountains and offers oodles of Adirondack Mountain Club products including hiking guides, hats, sweatshirts, etc. We stopped there twice as we drive to the area to hike Mt Jo and walk around Heart lake. The foliage was spectacular the first week of October!!!!

They day we were here it was so cold with blustery winds. We hemmed and hawed about paying the $15 to walk around outside. It was well worth it. I have attached a picture for you to see.

I am currently trying to finish up my 46ers and have used the high peaks center aas my starting point on various occations. The staff is great, and they offten have any of the last minute hiking supplies you may need.

Any experienced hiker knows you need to have local knowledge when in a new environment and these guys have it in abundance. They are all really helpful and super friendly. Also great place to recover with a hit beverage after a long trail!

I read that hiking Mt.Marcy involves 15 mile hike. Can anyone tell me how many hours you took to get to the peak? And do you come back down to same way and how long it took you?

I'm a runner so I did it pretty quickly. Check out peakbagger for a bunch of trip reports that will give you an idea of what trail to take and approximate times. I did round-trip in 4 hours.
