We're glad that places like this are being restored. When we were there, however, it did not appear that anyone was around or working. So much is still closed due to Covid. We were able to walk around a little bit, get the history of the place and understand it's importance and what it was all about. Interesting find in the small area of Newcomb, NY

A real window into another era when the wealthy went camping! The property is beautiful with its Japanese meets ADK design. So glad for all the folks who are working to restore it.
We were mobility challenged so took the carriage ride out. Long, hot and bumpy. The driver did everything he could to keep it entertaining and helped us move around at the other end. Unfortunately the property is not at the point where it is handicapped accessible. Maybe at some point.
There are also few chairs so if you want to relax, bring one.
We went on a Sunday, but noticed that a lot of construction work was in progress so it may not be quiet or relaxing during the week this year.

Santanoni is a great camp that was rescued from neglect and near collapse. It has a very unique architectural style. You can hike, bike, ski or snowshoe back to the main house, or it is really fun to arrange for a wagon ride to take you back there.

The old carriage road up to the camp, past the farm at mile 1, is a beautiful and gentle ski trip. The trail, being a road, is wide enough to ski side by side and gentle enough to socialize while skiing. Fantastic old woods, with occasional nice mountain views and some really beautiful old architecture. The creamery is a special old stone building, and the main lodge is a spectacular example of a great camp. We were there on one of the few weekends in winter when the camp is open for tours, and the crew at the warming hut (artist's studio outbuilding) was fantastic - they had a nice fire going and offered up hot drinks (coffee, tea, or cocoa) and drying racks upon arrival.

We rode out mountain bikes out to Santanoni and spent a couple hours wandering around, hiking a few of the trails along the lake, and eating lunch along the lake shore. There was a reasonable crowd and there were a few Park Ranger types to answer questions about the Camp.
This was a great day in the Adirondacks.

My husband, our 10 year old son and myself rode our bikes into the camp on a cool fall day. It was beautiful and quiet (as we started out in the morning). The entire camp was still open to the public (when we thought it might be closed). Nice place to have a picnic, and we even heard some loons calling!

I bicycled to the Camp and back with a group of seven. I was at a disadvantage as I did not have a mountain bike. Although a regular 21 speed road bike is an option, the trail is more suited for a mountain bike as the trail has ruts from horses and a sandy base in some sections. Leaves covered up the gravel in many places, so caution was necessary to not go too fast as you never quite knew what obstacles were ahead of you. The first four miles are a gradual uphill with the last mile all downhill.
The camp was very rustic and you could wander through the buildings on the complex. I ate my lunch by the lake at the boathouse. Kayaks and canoes were available for use, but we did not partake in using them. The view of this secluded Lake Newcomb was spectacular.
We encountered people on horseback as well as hikers. One woman walked to the camp with her St. Bernard dog!
Since it was the end of September, the leaves had not really changed yet. I would like to come back again to see the colors.
There is a horse drawn wagon that will shuttle people from the parking lot to the camp and back for a fee.
The signs indicated that the distance to the camp was 5.0 miles, but my bicycle's odometer registered only 4.5 miles on each leg of the trip. Whether your hike or ride is 9 miles or 10 miles, this is a can't miss opportunity to enjoy history ( a Great Camp) and the outdoors for no free unless you take the carriage ride.

Camp Santanoni is GREAT! A truly unique experience to get to walk/ride bikes down a 4.5 mile road, and then this Great Camp is at the end, which you get to explore – free reign over the property – for FREE! There are boats you can take out … again free of charge … you have full use of the camp buildings to explore or enjoy your picnic lunch. Be sure to find an intern and ask questions about the history of the camp. We got to interact with Maria, who was knowledgeable, gave *just* the right of information without overwhelming, had a photo album to accompany the answers to our questions. And she unlocked the artist studio for us, which is well worth seeing. We’re grateful to the 3 organizations who are managing the upkeep of Camp Santanoni, and plan to make a donation, to help keep it going for others to enjoy. We rented bikes to ride in and out (see my review of Cloudsplitter Outfitters rental) and enjoyed that. But if walking is your preference, it’s a beautiful walk, too. Extraordinary experience and one we highly recommend during your visit to the ADK!

I'm unable to hike, bike or walk the 5 miles since I have OstioArthritus which limits my physical abilities. Is there any other means of travel to this great camp for me and other handicap persons?

Call the Architectural Heritage Society and see what is available. The Horse drawn carraige is an option.
In the winter is the travel via horse and sledge?
