The Interpretive Center was a surprise find for us. We'd visited Newcomb Park and Camp Santanoni and came upon this very nice AIC. The husband/wife team couldn't have been more informative and helpful. Extremely nice to talk with and knew their stuff. We were the only folks in the place. Great learning spot for the Adirondacks and we're glad that places like this exist to teach students and visitors the importance of the surrounding environment and wildlife. We took a short hike along one of the trails here. Beautiful lake on site. We were able to pick up some informational brochures and maps as well.

We visit the AIC every time we pass through. The trails are always fun, with many water views. The main building is open again with a nice seating area and local history.

Nous y sommes allés un matin, de bonne heure : la brume se levait et nous voyions apparaître petit à petit les collines d’arbre en habit d’automne qui reflétaient sur les lacs. Un pur moment 🙂 !

Excellent place to stop and visit. Free! Jake was great! Very accommodating. Knowledgeable and Gave me lots of good information about the area, trail system very well maintained and good.

We decided to stop here on a cloudy day during our stay at Harris Lake campground. We’ve stayed there many times and have noticed the signs for this place several times. I am glad we finally stopped by. The people working at the center were incredibly friendly and helpful. The trails were easy to navigate and had some great spots to stop and view Rich lake. The interpretive center had some fun and interesting things to do for the kids as well.

My family enjoyed our visit and kids enjoyed playing with different items in the center. We also went for an easy but very beautiful hike.

The Adirondack Interpretive Center is free to visit and has great hiking trails. They are easy to do, quick to complete, and offer beautiful scenery. The staff at the center are very helpful and they offer awesome programming.

We often stop when traveling to or from the High Peaks. The displays are very well done! The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. The walks provide a lovely break from driving.

We visited this place in the afternoon. The place was not crowded and we had great time looking at the woods, trails and then headed to interpretive center. Very nice place especially for students and youngsters, Lots of things displayed.
The person in charge was very friendly and spent a lot of time explaining to us everything that was displayed there and also told us about the regular activities of the center.
There are many trails and we could not go on trails as we had to drive to NYC.
Do not miss if you are around this place. Take trails around ponds, lakes and woods and also see the exhibits.

The Visitors Interpretive center has 3 great scenic trails that are about a mile each. You can do all three and have a lovely time. They wind past lakes and through forest.

I am no biologist, but my understanding is that this spring and summer have been ideal conditions for breeding (water) and eating (mosquitos) due to the abundance of rain and warm weather.

How do I get there using public transportation?

The AIC is in Newcomb, NY, a very rural town in the middle of the Adirondacks. The location alone is a great reason to visit, however public transportation to Newcomb is not offered. Adirondack Trailways has a bus route that makes its closest stop about 30 miles away in Pottersville, NY.
