‪First time to visit in over two years. The wonderful owner/operator showed us around. Incredible collection of butterflies including beautiful blue morphos. Enjoyed the beautiful collection of rare birds, turtles, small snakes, rabbits, and Australian marsupials. Clearly this is labor of love. Have been going here for almost 20 years. Turaco and pheasant are currently outside. This is a wonderful place for kids and incredible opportunity to take unique pictures.‬

‪This place is CLOSED, Drove there for nothing…. Confusing information when you look it up. One place says closed and other places give hours..‬

‪We really enjoyed our visit here. There was someone there to point out the interesting butterflies and animals, as well as how they maintain the population. Plan on about an hour. It's one big room, but lots to see and learn about. ‬

‪Woman working there very knowledgeable about the animals, but she could use some help. The areas could use some cleaning and upkeep, but overall a nice experience.‬

‪I recently visited the Conservatory with my Mum, two nieces (one who attends SUNY Oneonta) and my 12-year-old son. Upon parking, we were struck by the shabbiness of the outdoor animal cages, but decided to check out the inside space. We were warmly greeted (and I forgot our host's name), paid our admission and were escorted inside the facility. For the next hour we were treated to a plethora of information on all the various species of creatures in the Conservatory. We got to feed birds, have butterflies alight on us, pet various cuddly animals and even watch an ancient tortoise amble throughout the facility. We were totally engaged and except for the high temperature and humidity which keep these tropical species comfortable, we didn't want to leave. It is my hope that more people visit this unique Conservatory and that they can continue to do such good work and feed one's imagination.‬

‪My wife and I stopped here on our way to Brooks-bar-que. We have been here quite a few times before but not for about the last 4 years. I think the other reviews do a pretty good job but maybe I can summarize them. The butterflies and animals and plants were wonderful. We got there a little late in the day so the butterflies were a little passive but there were plenty still flying around. It seemed like more of the animals were in cages then we remember but most of the birds were flying around which was cool to see.
Now the problem side--The outside does seem to be overgrown and just messy. To give an example as you head onto the porch for the front door there were probably 10-15 nice tables and chairs just sort of pushed in and blocking access to what looked like a cooler with bottled water. I am not sure why they were there. There isn't space anywhere nearby where you could set them up. Once you get in the animal part it just seems a little dark. I get the heat and humidity, it is a tropical climate but I expected (and think from prior visits) that it should have been much more lite up. There were a lot of little flies buzzing around, maybe that it with the theme of nature but it struck me more as just dirty.
With that said it is definitely worth the trip and the fair entrance fee. Just concentrate on the birds, butterflies and plants and remember that is what you are there to see.‬

‪I love the idea of a Butterfly Observatory nearby.. However, the grounds were very overgrown and the old worn down buildings (attractions?) looked like it was abandoned long long ago. The observatory itself smelled dirty and moldy from humidity and looked old. It's too bad that some type of funding couldnt be given. It would be a wonderful place for children and families to visit. The price was a bit steep but I understand that money is needed for upkeep. Sad I dont know if I would bring my 3 year old grandson here. If it were in better condition, it would make a wonderful rainy day activity for families or schools.‬

‪We know the owner who does this as a labor of love. New set of birds, rabbits, butterflies, chickens, California Quail, hedgehogs, and endangered Curassow, Aracari, and many Turacos. They have Tom Turkeys and soon to be released miniature kangaroos. Contrary to other reviews, animals, birds, butterflies are incredibly happy. Come see the animals!‬

‪We found a brochure in the campground directory so we took a chance. This observatory needs funding. It needs direction and lots of TLC. I didn’t feel bad paying the admission price because i really feel they need funding. Bell is a jewel. You can tell she love coming here whether for work or volunteering. The animals are in good condition.. ‬

‪I went here today with my daughter and two small grand children. When we first drove in I thought how unkempt it was, but was hoping all efforts were put into the conservatory. It was dismal. It was Hot and dirty The animals obviously not happy...al BUT through the eyes of my grandson it was a magical place. He loved it...which makes me wonder why, in a town that has two colleges near it, why a program can't be made where students go in and look after the health of this place, as well as manage it, and spruce it up...to look as magical to all, as was in the eyes of my 5 year old grandson. Yes, I thought it very expensive, but am hoping it was all used for the betterment of the critters. So tell me folks....is there help for this place somewhere><‬
