My wife, my mother and I looked forward to a good wine tasting experience at Hosmer Winery. Our experience left a lot to be desired. Curtis, the winery representative, gave us his back for most of the time as he chatted with two other people who had finished their wine tasting. When he did occasionally turn to pour our wine, he mumbled at auctioneer speed. My 93 year old mother kindly asked him to speak slower so that she could understand what he was saying. This seemed to irritate Curtis, seeing that his service went from poor to offensively rude. It was obvious that he did not want to be there and he took it out on three elderly people.
While spending the majority of his time chatting with the other couple, he mentioned several times that he was a pilot and did a lot of flying. Being a retired Southwest Airlines captain and a navy pilot, I thought that I could engage him in conversation so that we could find some common ground. It was fruitless.
We spent a lot of time and money at other wineries. I just wish that the reviews of your winery were more accurate so that we could have spent more time where we were treated well.
What is most unfortunate about this winery is that the public relations person leads by making excuses for the poor attitudes and substandard performance of Hosmer employees. Her job should include actively listening to criticism. Being defensive and making excuses tells the story for the future of this winery. Clearly, it is one of hard working grandparents and parents building a good winery. Third generation, not so much as they wait to inherit what they did not create. This explains their ineptitude and poor attitudes toward the elderly.

We were not blown away by this tasting experience ($12 for 5 wines) which seemed to be more about the server than the wines. He spoke quite rapidly, mumbling his spiel by rote rather than ensuring that we understood fully, and he was not particularly attentive. Still, the wines were pretty good, many tasting of rather exotic fruits (for wine) such as kiwi and mango, and we bought three bottles. The grounds were pleasant, and the shop was clean and bright. Worth stopping for the wine but not for the experience.

Our staff can get too excited about explaining the wine - sometimes we need to be reminded to slow down! We're sorry you didn't particularly enjoy your tasting experience, but we're happy to hear you enjoyed our facility and our wines and even took some home with you. We hope you'll give us another chance in the future.

Very friendly staff! Beautiful setting, delicious wines. Great start as our first stop in a day on the wine trail! We were a party of 8 and everyone found a number of wines they enjoyed.

Loved spending time at this winery! The tasting experience was a treat as we had an opportunity to ask questions and to try five wines of our choosing. Lovey wines and the staff were both personable and knowledgeable. Special treats for the kids and for the pup too! Worth making the journey. Pair with a stop at Lively Rin for a great afternoon.

Arrived at Hosmer on a Saturday afternoon during the Wine Festival weekend. It was not very busy. The first thing we noticed was workers swearing at each other and at people on the other side of the bar. They may have been other employees or friends I don’t know but the whole atmosphere was tainted. One guy behind the bar kept tossing up wine bottles into the air and spinning them around. We probably should have left but ordered a tasting flight. It was poured into little plastic cups and we were handed a wine glass and went outside to sit at a table. There was no interaction with a host at all. They continued on with their “show” inside.
As others have said, Hosmer is an older winery and doesn’t have a very picturesque location, but they are supposed to have some good wine. That’s why we stopped there. Our experience was one we would not repeat. We didn’t really enjoy our wines and even if we had, we wouldn’t have walked back into that building to purchase them. We get to the finger lakes a couple of times a year and usually purchase several cases of wine. Bottles of Hosmer were not included.

The wine here was good and the staff was fun to talk to. It's on a farm, so you don't get the views of some of the other wineries in the area, but it's worth visiting. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Recently (Saturday 5/14/22) did a tasting here for a large group (20) of friends who were visiting the Finger Lakes with me for a few days. After contacting the winery, the staff said they couldn't take 20 at a time (particularly in the afternoon at the time I was looking for), but if we were to break up into two groups and have half the group visit a winery 3 minutes away, they could accommodate us. The first group, which I was a part of, had a good experience. The host was funny, knowledgeable, and put up with our shenanigans and the fact that this was our fifth stop of the day.
That said, upon arriving the manager who I had worked with via email had said that the second group may not be able to be seated if they didn't hurry up and get there by an specific time. Now, I understand that either by choice (or by law) that they close at a specific time. However, the second group was delayed because the winery THEY suggested we visit as part of the split does not take reservations, was clueless about our arrival even with me corresponding with them weeks and weeks ahead of time, and were busy that day - busier, in fact, then Hosmer who was celebrating their winery's anniversary. In the end, they did offer the second group a full glass of one wine, but considering I could have either chosen another winery for the groups to split to, or gone ahead and visited another winery if they were going to go against their word and their own suggestion, I felt like we could have been treated a little nicer.

Hi John,
I do apologize that your second group did not enjoy their experience. I really did try my best to be as accommodating as possible, as we started communicating way in advance of your arrival. I did stress, from the very beginning, that we do have a hard cutoff for tastings. I even made sure to wait 25 minutes past the second group's reservation before closing our tasting bar. Upon hearing that your second group was upset, I made sure to refund that group's tasting fees without hesitation.
Being a small, family-owned business we take pride in everything and take reviews like this to the very heart. We hope you (and your friends!) will come back to Hosmer and give us another try.

Not a lot of customer interaction. We were given a list of wines, no explanation given, we picked our wine and were sent outside by ourselves with 5 shot glasses and a wine glass. That was it no more interaction. They were open until 5:30, we arrived at 5 and a couple walked in a couple of minutes after 5 and they were told they stopped tastings at 5 and were turned away.

Hello there! Thank you for coming to visit us here at Hosmer! We appreciate your feedback and take all suggestions into consideration. Our tastings have been flight-style outside while the weather is still enjoyable as we currently do not have enough staff to accommodate indoor tastings on a daily basis. We would love for you to come back and do a guided tasting with one of our wine experts! The weekends typically allow for this as we do have the staff to operate our tasting bars. Reservations can be made in advance by visiting our website at www.hosmerwinery.com. Our policy is to end tastings 30 minutes prior to closing, however, we do still offer wine by the glass and bottle sales. Again, we hope you come back again!
