An interesting foray into the history of Kodak and George Eastman.
Tour guide necessary, ours was easily distracted though.
Very nice house and gardens which were important to the story.
Not a tour for kids but there is a room for kids to have fun. The bedroom where Mr George Eastman took his life. He was very ill.

Just a great experience. Our seniors bike group invaded the grounds and each found the area that fascinated us the most. The history and all the displays were fascinating and educational. Just a wonderful way to take in a day.

My kids are 8 and 10 and the majority of the museum is boring for kids this age. They liked parts of the mansion and there was a discovery room for kids that had some neat activities but that only lasted about 20 minutes. We had thought the museum would focus more on the history of George Eastman and the Kodak company but the museum portion was mostly about photography of a couple artists and many of the photos were not appropriate for children. I found the price of tickets to be high for the experience. I would probably not go again.

Worth a visit! A fascinating look into the founder of Kodak and the history of photography/film. Very well presented galleries and an easy to follow audio guide will lead you through the mansion.

If you love photography (and history), this is the place for you. The upper class Victorian manor makes you feel like you lept back in time. It's very subject to season though, as the outdoor sights are pretty bad in the winter. Also the photo museum is rather crowded, and the museum's appeal is a bit narrow.

The mansion is beautifully preserved. The self guided audio tour via mobile device was well done. The are gallery’s, although small were interesting and engaging. My only issue with this experience is that it’s priced similarly to the Chicago museum of art which is vastly larger with much more rare works in the collection. Based on the value for the spend, it’s just needs more to add to the experience. Would have been nice to see the upper or lower floors (only the main level and 2nd floor are available to tour).

An interesting walk through the past. The mansion is quite lovely and the history of the Kodak cameras over time was interesting.

Un museo que quedé totalmente impresionado con el interior de la antigua mansión y su gran exhibición. Definitivamente debe ser una parada obligada al venir a Rochester.

Looking for something local to do/see found this famous guys house now a museum. Muck like the Hagley museum in Delaware. See how the really rich lived in the early 1900’s. Many cameras from a box with a hole in it to space cameras. Different Seasonal displays bourbon visit was Gingerbread houses.

George Eastman left his estate and considerable money to Rochester University.
I have no idea who currently owns it but someone is doing a very fine job.

Yes, the museum is handicap accessible through certain entrances, and does have an elevator to get to the second floor.

Strathallan (Doubletree Inn) is closest, and is a very fine boutique style hotel with an excellent restaurant. Another two blocks down East Avenue is the East Avenue Inn 384. It was opened in the 60's as a Treadway Inn, but was totally renovated two years ago to first-rate standards. It also has an excellent restaurant called City Grill at East and Alexander St. which has become an upscale "watering hole" for the 30-50 set. I think someone mentioned the Edward Harris House B&B. I've not been there but know who the owners are and it must be another first-rate place to stay. Finally, you will have a wonderful visit to the George Eastman House. It's amazing.

Not for the museum, but if you want to go to a lecture/presentation or a movie at the Dryden Theater (which is contained within the museum), you probably should purchase them ahead of time to ensure they are not sold out.
Note: you do NOT need to purchase a museum ticket in order to go to the Dryden. They are separate tickets. :-)
