‪This park is just gorgeous year-round! I visited on April 21, for the entire afternoon. Was happy to see they have reopened the gift shop at Red House admin building. I birdwatched, looked for beavers at three different beaver ponds and saw an osprey nest as I drove out from the Quaker side!
It appears that a lot of exciting renovations and upgrades are being made all over the park. I can't wait to see what these changes bring this summer and fall!‬

‪Beautiful State park in Cattaraugus County, Salamanca, NY. I visited the park on a weekend in Mid-October, too early for the fall foliage peak show.
However, the rain and cold misty morning with patches of Sun breaking through the clouds gave the scenery a magical enchanted aura.
The covered bridge was a great photo spot.
An anxious dog running to jump in the lake was a happy sight.‬

‪This Park is an absolute Winter wonderland and is a fantastic place to go sledding in Salamanca, New York. Chances are pretty good that you will find snow at Alleghany during the cold winter months, and if you go just after a heavy snowfall, you will experience an amazing place to find sledding. Whether it’s a designated spot for riding your sled or tube down or you make your own downhill track like we did, you’re sure to have a great time. There is no place like Western New York and during the winter Alleghany is just as fun as it is in the summer. If you want to check out the sledding adventure me and my family and friends had you can check out my YouTube channel called Travel Man Dan. This place is great, and the episode just shows a small little hill we created off the trail of our cabins but it was a blast and I definitely recommend this place for you if you want to have some Wintertime fun!!‬

‪This was my first time staying in the park in thirty five years. We stayed in a cottage in the Quaker area. It had everything we needed. The park offers something for everyone from scenery to hikes, kayaking, biking trails and more. I love this place!!!!!‬

‪But My husband and I went to the park and we thought it was amazing.I loved the landscape of the area. We didn't get to explore much due to having to head home that day. But, we are coming back in a couple of weeks.‬

‪Osgood trail had some excessive downed trees. Park is clean and well maintained. Many hiking, canoe, kayak and biking options.
Lots of great fishing. Red House Lake still Best! Quaker Lake and Alleghany River / Kinzu area, water was very green.
Staff at Administration was helpful. Bathrooms are clean and well lit. If they run out of anything leave note, they will restock. Cabins on Mac Intosh were nice, needed some better cleaning, so bring your own broom and cleaning supplies. Walk around Lake, at sunset was best, lots of Deer.‬

‪We had a great 1st camping trip to ASP Aug. 7-14, 2021. We staying in Quaker at the Cain Hollow D Loop #152. The campsite was pretty good as far as being away from the neighboring sites but the site itself was on a site decline. The firepit had much to be desired and needed some help with only rocks in a circle. It would be great if they could improve that aspect of each campsite. The site had a shortcut to the bathroom/bath house which was nice. The women's bathroom had a constant loud sound when the sinks were shut off but once you turned them on, it went away. They had automatic flush toilets and were pretty clean. There was absolutely NO cell service or Wi-fi. For some people that is a plus but for me I wish there was better access, especially when it comes to weather and emergencies. Quaker General Store had a bit of Wi-Fi but not the best and there was one other place near the beach that you could get cell service. Otherwise, you were on your own. Near the last days, Quaker General Store ran out of ice so numerous trips to Red House were required. Thunder Rocks was AMAZING and I highly recommend a trip there. We saw the Park Ranger drive by on numerous occasions and even a police officer so we felt pretty safe. Despite having a bear box for our food (nice campsite upgrade), we still had a bear encounter on Saturday morning at 2am. Little did we know there was a park ranger camping 4 sites up just because of this bear. Apparently, he makes his arrival every Friday evening/night because of new people setting up camp. Despite all of the efforts of the park rangers issuing warnings for people letting their coolers stay out, there were campers that left McDonald's and a hotdogs sit out all night. So the bear was right on target. Overall, it was a nice week at a quiet campsite. I would recommend for sure. If you are not tent campers that's ok. Cabins were available too.‬

‪Stayed at Bova cottages late June 2021. It's an annual family reunion gathering that is the highlight of the year. We have been doing this since the cottages at Allegany were built (mostly at Bova, once at Parallel in the Quaker area) and we have covered just about every road and hiking path in the park, as well as attractions and activities outside the park. We must give ReserveAmerica and the NYS Park staff our gratitude for rolling with COVID and the many accommodations a changing pandemic required of them.

Cottages were for the most part clean (wipe down tops of refrigerators before placing items there) and we noticed new mattresses on beds and futons. Kitchen pans and utensils also appeared new, but bring a non-stick fry pan for eggs and your favorite knives. Full range/ovens are new in Bova- very nice and even better if bake pans were included in the kitchen. No paper towels, cleaning supplies, garbage bags or coffee filters for drip maker- bring this stuff. Hopefully by now the concessionaire has resumed providing linens.

Once again we were disappointed in the accuracy or completeness of information on the ReserveAmerica and NYS Park websites- we had to call the Park the old fashioned way to gather information, some staff very helpful, others sounding a bit put out (too bad!). You still only get one key to the cottage- they sleep up to six adults- you get the picture! Be ready to travel around in a group of designate a hiding place for the one key if folk go in different directions during the daytime. Only two cars permitted at each cottage with overflow parking at Red House Lake- although we were told this, staff did not think it a big deal and no one seemed to follow the rule at any of the cabins. If you thought the summer season started on Memorial Day, think again- lifeguarded swimming and concessions did not open until June 26th (I took the grandkid to Holiday Valley in Ellicottville to splash in their lovely pools). If you like to start with a nice fire pit bring a shovel- they have not been cleaned out in a while.

Frankly, we stay at Bova for the convenience of the bathrooms, hot water and kitchens, but I am thinking the price is getting steep for what you get. If you are willing to walk to a bathhouse for showers and "calls of nature", consider cabins in the park with fridges and stove tops and bring your own stuff. The website seems to indicate that in 2022 they are starting "peak season" earlier- if so, NYS Parks needs to provide the concessions and swimming that the price of the cottages will command.

My family has grown up visiting Allegany for over 50 years- it is a very special place and as the centennial of the park's establishment is celebrated this year, we hope NYS Parks will continue to provide the stewardship Allegany deserves for future generations.‬
