One of my absolute favorite places to visit especially in the fall. The views are absolutely beautiful and the history is so interesting! I’ve been multiple times and highly recommended!

You could spend hours walking around this cemetery. It is so full of history and beautiful mausoleums and monuments to see. We took a tour with members of the local historical society (not the standard history tour). This tour highlighted some of the residents that don't get as much attention. After that, we just walked around for awhile.
It is beautiful in the fall and that was such a lovely time to go. We went at opening at 10 and that was a nice time to go before it got too busy.

This beautiful, contemplative cemetery is beautiful and well-maintained, and a great way to honor those who've already passed. We came here to visit Washington Irving's place of rest, and ended up walking around quite a bit to look at the other monuments and take in the quiet beauty. The pathways can be pretty steep, and it was raining when we came here, so be sure to bring good walking shoes. There's a gushing steam on the outskirts of the cemetery. The parking lot at the entryway is pretty small, but there's more parking along the inner street once you pass by the parking lot.

It is a beautiful cemetery, but there are lots of hills, some quite steep, which could be a challenge for some people. There is a very small parking lot at the south gate entrance but you can park along the road as well. As you drive through the cemetery there are also areas to pull off and park. There are several well-known people buried here, and the cemetery is worth a visit.

Beautiful! Well maintained with lots of history. Check out both sides. Bring good walking shoes. Lots of hills/rocky areas so be mindful. We did the day exploring and a lantern lit tour at night- HIGHLY recommend. Easy to get a full day in here.

This is a very attractive cemetery that is easy to walk to from Tarrytown. You can see the grave of Washington Irvine and marvel at the scale of the mausoleums erected for some of the richest Americans to be buried here. such as the Rockerfellers. The grounds are very attractive to walk around.

If you are going to Sleepy Hollow to check out the sites, you have to make a stop at the Cemetery. There are a lot of cool markers and sites to see. There is a map that you can pick up at the on grounds chapel. Just keep in mind that some sites you need to go in at different entrances as not all of the roads inside connect.

We came during the day to visit the headless horseman bridge and Irving’s grave. Beautiful day. You park along the roads where you can find a spot and walk if you’re coming on a weekend in October. A peaceful and beautiful cemetery. We walked into the Dutch church as well. Came back for the 930 lantern tour, which was awesome. We had the full moon light to guide us and make it extra spooky. Our guide was great. I only wish it had lasted longer then an hour! We weren’t ready to go.

Stop in and grabbed a map to self tour the cemetery. A lot of walking and many points of interest.
Sleepy Hollow bridge was an eerie feeling. This would be a fun tour at night but with a bigger group of people.

Took one of the daytime Original Knickerbocker Washington Irving and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow walking tours on a Sunday morning for an hour plus. Thoroughly enjoyable. We had a great tour guide and learned all about the history of the famous cemetery and Washington Irving. He was much more than the author of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow story. Many other famous people are also buried here with many impressive monuments and mausoleums. The adjacent Old Dutch Church cemetery has been in continuous use since the 1600s and is open also. You are free to wander the cemetery before and after the tour during operating hours either walking or driving the roads. We spent about 3 hours here. They also offer fall/Halloween tours and after-dark evening tours by lantern light. Would like to go back and experience an evening tour sometime. Would not recommend for small children as I believe they would be somewhat bored with Irving’s backstory but we found it fascinating.

Hello - is there a third party site where these tickets are being resold? It appears the evening lantern tour is sold out all October and November 2020. I would love to track down two tickets

They are all sold out—some hotels in the area have packages with tickets available.
I booked night cemetery tour and i would like to know if i get a refund or if i can use the ticket for different date in case of rain.

No. They don't allow that. They only refund ticket purchases in severe weather. Make sure you have a rain coat umbrella and comfortable shoes

I have difficulty walking steep, hilly areas- I am a senior citizen. Would this tour be for me? Are there area that I still would be able to navigate?

Sorry, we didn't book any bikes, but I know there is one bike shop in the town. I remember my husband looking at it, it was one of the new electric bikes. I just googled their website, check it out Sleek eBikes

How was your stay at the Double Tree? We are thinking of staying there (seems nice and close). I don't think we will make it up this year, but maybe next year and want to go in October... but as you mentioned, I think it will be packed. I'd love to hear any suggestions you may have! Thx!

Our stay was fantastic. Seeing that we arrived during a hurricane on a Friday night, it was great. The hotel is close enough to stay and drive into Sleepy Hallow. I would highly suggest you book ahead what you want to do, as they probably fill up fast during October, especially the plays. We did the tour of the cemetery on our own b/c it cancelled due to weather...and were glad due to the terrain of the cemetery it would have been hard to walk around (especially after the rain). The internet is your best choice for information before the trip. We didn’t find too many touristy shops in the village of Sleepy Hallow, that was a surprise to us. So, if you see something you want somewhere, I would buy it cause you may not see anything like it again.

Yes. No problem. You can park on the grounds in designated areas. It a hilly terrain.
