West Meadow beach situated on Long Island’s North Shore has the geographic distinction of facing west which provides for wonderful sunset viewing especially during the spring and fall. Many favor Long Island’s south shore sandy beaches with their stunning ocean vistas in favor of the north shore’s rocky shoreline. However, there is something calming and tranquil at this beach especially during the off season. An added bonus here is the 2.4 round trip walk along Trustees Road which parallels the beach and offers views of the estuary and the Long Island Sound. In spring and summer look up at the nest of the resident osprey pair who just left after spending their fourth season season here.
There is also a fenced-in water sprinkling park for younger children during the summer months, and in another area a playground slide, swing, and climbing area.
Great place to swim, kayak and paddle board.
For those less inclined to walk, one can just pull up to a front row parking spot, sit in the car and take in the views and sunsets! Whatever you decide, you won’t be disappointed.

Great for simply relaxing or bringing a picnic. The views are beautiful, water is relatively calm for swimming, and nice long walks on either the road or the beach. It is rocky, so be sure to bring water shoes!

Wife and I went for running on the trail close to this beautiful beach, during the sunset... The beach is clean and the landscape is beautiful with lots of historical cottages close to the beach.. we watched the beautiful sunset. The sea is quite shallow in this part and is easy to swim/ take bath...

This is a nice way to spend the afternoon. There is a spray park for kids to play in. There's also a playground. I love walking along at low tide and picking up seashells. You can see gulls, plovers, and other shorebirds. There are also snails, clams, crabs, and other sea creatures to observe. Locals know to wear sandals while visiting a North Shore beach. If you're visiting from out of town, pack sandals you keep your feet safe from the barnacles and rocks. Use baby powder to help get the sand off your feet at the end of the day. And bring plenty of sunscreen. There are nice bathrooms and a water fountain. Sometimes you'll see an ice cream truck. If you're staying longer than an hour, bring your own food.

Locals return again and again to walk, skate and cycle Trustees Road, but the views toward Long Island Sound to the west are lovely with great sunsets, a swimming beach, playground, and a healthy salt marsh and cree to the east. Walk to the end of Trustees Road and see the lovely Gamecock Cottage. Please leave your dogs at home because pets on or off leach are prohibited (even though this would do no harm in the winter months - just sayin'). There is a local education nature ranger as well and numerous conservation programs. This place is a treasure. Please try to avoid the vegetation - no stomping please. But also watch out for lots of poison ivy.

Scenic, relatively straight and level. A great option to run and ride. Pets are prohibited, but look out for pedestrians!

Beach: Look at the tide table before coming: Come at low tide with small children and for walking on the beach in soft sand and shallow waters; come when the water if higher if you want to swim. In the summer you need a pass for parking or pay for a daily ticket. The gate is usually open before and after the regular hours as well, for free entry. Sunsets are beautiful here. There are two playgrounds, a small park with water fountains and bathroom and shower facilities.
Walk on Trustee's Road: Since the beach houses have been removed several years ago this place is getting better every year. It takes about 45 minutes to go from the parking lot to the tip of the peninsula and back if you go one the paved road, a little more if you walk on the beach (again, low tide is better for that). Great place for every season, including winter.

West Meadow beach is a wonderful beach during the summer. Families can bring their children to swim and play in the shallow waters with no worries. The park facilities, including the playground equipment and sandboxes, are clean and well-maintained. The best way to experience this place, however is when the crowds are gone. The beach walks are peaceful and refreshing, and the long, flat path along Trustees Road affords opportunities for walking, running, biking, and other family activities -- without the worry of running into other people. Lots of opportunities abound for photography, painting, nature observation, and specifically, botanical changes with the seasons. So when the weather gets cool, put on a jacket and consider taking a hike on West Meadow Beach. It's great exercise and good for the soul.

Scenic spot for a swim or walk, but bring beach shoes, as our North Shore beaches are very rocky. If you check in advance and come near low tide, you can walk out on the smooth sandbars that extend well into the water for a bit of a different experience. Kids love being out there--you're far from shore and only ankle-deep (or less) in water! Also great sunsets, but bring insect repellent in July/August for the gnats, or just stay in your car facing the water with a glass of wine. Take a walk--or skate or ride a bike--on the paved Trustees Road (no vehicular traffic) about a mile to the Gamekeeper's Cottage by Stony Brook Harbor, looking across the channel to the left at the wetlands and lovely homes on the hills above them. The path is also marked periodically with information about the local wildlife. This whole area extending south from the parking lot is now public property, so you can go over to the beach at any point along the road and walk back along the shoreline. (Also check out the Wetlands cruises if you'd like to see the area by boat.) Kids enjoy the playground and sprinkler park. There are bathrooms and a few covered tables, plus other smaller tables with checkerboards built into the stone, so have the kids collect small rocks in two different colors and play a game. The Good Humor truck often stops by. On a really windy day, you can watch the kiteboarders at the south end of the beach. We go there almost year-round, either just to relax and read or to take a brisk walk, and sometimes with grandkids. Great spot either way...
