Since we visted in July, Penguin Island was closed to visitors.
Fortuanately, we managed to experience the Penguin Cruise instead. While the cruise didn't take us to Penguin Island, it got us close enough to see the Penguins in the distance. We also got to see Sea Lions and other wildlife.
While commentary was offered and a reasonable about of information was offered, I found the commentary to feel rather scripted. Would be better if the staff put more passion into it and pointed out particularly interesting observations that we can witness during the cruise. That being said, the commentary was not bad.
Also unfortunately, we didn't get to see any dolphins during the cruise. However, I understand that it's not guaranteed as the dolphins travel freely.

The penguin discovery centre was a really good start to the day. The volunteers obviously love these little guys and are hopeful that it’s taking the stress off the wild population. Really lovely walk around the well maintained boardwalk to see the seabird rookeries. Finished off with a cruise to see the seals. All the staff were really passionate about their cause and full of useful information.

Calm boat trip around Penguin Island and surrounds. Friendly, professional, enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides. We saw dolphins, sea lions and many birds. Great experience!!

Enjoyed a peaceful visit to the island where I learned so much about penguins. I saw a little group of rescue penguins at the discovery centre and learned that seeing them in the wild during the day is unlikely as they spend 80% of their time in the water and only come home in the very late afternoon / evening. So special to have a place that provides a predator free sanctuary for these little penguins.

We paid for this package but at the location, we were told that it does not include snorkeling. It was a one-hour Uber drive to Shoalwater only to be told this upon reaching. In the end, we had to just sit in the boat and watch other people snorkeling and they had booked from other websites. Even the staff and crew confirmed this. By the way, the staff and the crew are good, friendly and knowledgable.

It sounds like you purchased a spectator ticket, not a snorkel ticket. Unfortunately, the spectator ticket is the ticket to observe the wildlife from the vessel.
We hope you still had a lovely day even though it didn't go as you may have planned it too and we will pass this feedback on.

The island was nice and it would be a nice day trip with the family and a picnic. We took the short ferry ride over and walked the 2km route around the island. The education centre on the island was disappointing.

Despite there only being 7 penguins in the discovery centre, it is still a great experience and very educational and entertaining. Great for adults as well as children….we were a group of 4 adults. Quick ferry ride (5 minutes) each way.

Really knowledgeable guides, excellent safety brief, plenty of time to explore. Amazing fish, birds, colours, seals and dolphins. Food onboard not abundant so don’t start trip feeling

Great tour! And absolutely fantastic staff, thank you very much for the tour today. I missed my tour time by accident and rang the office, they said it was no problem as the next tour wasn’t full and let me on the next tour. Thanks again highly recommended

We took the hour cruise to see dolphins, penguins and sea lions. Unfortunately we didn’t any dolphins but managed to catch a couple of sea lions lazing on the shore. There were penguins in the show thereafter but overall there isn’t much to see and do at Penguin Island. Pego Cafe’s fish and chips were really nice though.

Thank you for your review. We hope you enjoyed the commentary from our guides along with the lazing sea lions! Penguin Island is best enjoyed by observing the wildlife, both along the board walk, at the discovery centre and by swimming/snorkelling. We will pass on your kind regards to Pengo's Cafe.

Be aware that the penguins are out at sea during the day so you see very few while there.

Hi, we try to book tour on 1-2 Aug but it is fully booked in the web. Is it possible that we can walk in on that day? Or we must only have booked ticket ? thank you very much.

Thank you for your question.
The 1st and 2nd of August are showing as fully booked as these dates are not available.
Penguin Island is CLOSED to the general public for 3 months every year for June, July and August.
We definitely do not recommend walking to Penguin Island as it is very dangerous and as mention the Island is closed and no access by the general public is allowed on Penguin Island at the moment.
We offer a Penguin island wildlife Cruise which is our 'winter cruise' only available in the winter months which is a 90 minute experience including a 60 minute glass bottom boat cruise and a 30 minute guided walk on Penguin Island.
We have limited access granted by Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions DBCA and limited time on the island to minimise all disturbance but time to take in the spectacular views from the lookout - bird nesting dependent.
This tour has been cancelled for the month of July due to renovations and will recommence on the 3rd of August at this stage however we are watching the weather closely.
Please check our website for updates.
Penguin Island will reopen and all ferry and cruises operating as normal from the 15th of September. (Swim with Wild Dolphins tour from the 1st of Septmeber)

I would love to book 2 tickets for wildlife cruise on 13/7/2019 but on the website it’s fully booked. Is it possible to walk in on that day? Because I come from Thailand and penguin island is one of my destination.

Unfortunately the 13th is unavailable due to our gift shop being closed over the month of July for renovations that is why it is showing up as fully booked.
The Wildlife Cruise will commence again in August.

We are a family visiting Penguin Island and want to take the cruise for Dolphin and Sea Lions. However, only one of us want to do "Swim with Dolphins". Is this possible?

We have a Swim with Wild Dolphins tour where we can have spectators onboard with the swimmers or our Adventure cruise which is where you see Dolphins, Penguins and Sea Lions but no swim is involved. These are two separate cruises. Our Dolphin Swim Tour leaves from Val St Jetty and is a full day tour including lunch. The Adventure cruise leaves from Shoalwater jetty and includes Penguin Isld and Seal Isld.Please call us on (08) 95911333 and we can answer any other questions to help you decide which tour would suit you all best!
