‪Point Peron is full of wildlife, including seals. You can often find some penguins nearby. Aquatic birds can be found in abubnance. Poinr Peron is located in Rockingham, aroud 30 minutes from Perth.‬

‪Visiting the area, nearly didn't find the road to the Point. Great lookouts and many short walks, including to the old WW2 bunker at the top.‬

‪Cape Peron is one of the seven areas of Rockingham Lakes Regional Park and it is commonly known as Point Peron (perhaps to differentiate it from Cape Peron, the northern tip of the Francois Peron National Park). There are two car parks, one at the end of the Point Peron Rd and the other about 200 m before it (on the right). We have seen that the 2.4 kilometer Cape Peron Loop Trail can be started from either of the two car parks, but we preferred to walk straight to John Point and return back walking on the beach on the southern shore of the Cape. The path between the car park and the north end of the cape is in perfect condition and accessible to all. It offers the chance to see the beauty of the cliff shaped by the waves of the Indian Ocean, to observe wildlife and to walk in one site of the battery complex defending the Garden Island Naval Base during WWII. One of the two 155 mm guns is still in place while the base of the second has collapsed. Along the trails the signs rightly draw attention to two reptiles in the reserve, the dugite and the bobtail, but it can be clearly seen that the fauna is now a mix of animals native to Australia and introduced species. In the low vegetation you can see European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and, along with bush birds like the welcome swallow (Hirundo neoxena) and the singing honeyeater (Gavicalis virescens) there is the introduced laughing dove (Spilopelia senegalensis) and rock dove (Columba livia). Among the sea birds we saw Australian pelicans, Australian pied cormorants, silver gulls and terns. From the Lookout Bridge we had an excellent view of Bird and Penguin Islands. A very pleasant walk in a very interesting nature, with the boundless horizon of an ocean whose power has shaped it and defines its life rhythms.‬

‪We didn't spend a lot of time here but enough to see some scenic beauty and also some of the rugged formations on the coastline. One cosy bay had a family setting up a shelter on the beach while the kiddies enjoyed the water. Some great walking trails if feeling energetic. A small group of kayakers enjoying life near the Point.‬

Thanks for visiting Jean, it sounds like you enjoyed your walk. The historic World War II gun emplacements were built for defending Garden Island and Fremantle.

‪Point Peron is an extension of Cape Peron. Point Peron is within easy reach of Rockingham, a seaside city south of Perth. Point Peron is part of Cockburn Sound, adjacent to Garden Island, which is a military base. When we were young, we would go fishing at Point Peron whenever we were in Rockingham. Apart from the birdlife, the area contains seals and penguins. There are also the decayed remains of World War II installations. Technically, Point Peron is a rocky headland. Point Peron is named after Francois Peron (1775-1810), a French explorer and scientist.‬

‪I have not visited Point Peron for years but I am glad we headed there today for a morning walk.
Parking was easy and we soon followed one of the many well signposted walking trails along the coast.
This is a great place to relax, exercise and enjoy the beautiful coastal views.
It would be even better on a summer’s day.‬

‪I have been walking through and fishing from Point Peron since the early 1970’s. Yes it has changed, there are places that you cannot access any more (for safety) and yes, although snorkeling is brilliant, there are fewer crayfish and big fish. However, it is a brilliant place to spend with a family for a day of adventures and safe swimming in the western beach. ‬
