My GPS had two selections for this location, one of which was a Tripadvisor link. I chose that one and the GPS took me to a bunch of trees on a little used road. After turning around, I selected the second choice and finally found it.
This large stone engraved with petroglyphs is interesting, but it is really, really off the beaten path.
I note one review states there are signs at all turns. That most definitely is no longer true.
Of interest, with so few homes in the area, there is one of those little free roadside libraries next to the walkway to the rock viewing area.
Although I have selected family (teens), we actually were three old folks which included my mother-in-law. I wish Tripadvisor would give us another choice of simply "family."

This was a beautiful fall day with the leaves near their peak. The day was pleasant and I got to indulge my interest in history and culture. Several other people also took the opportunity to visit also.

The place was easy to find and the caretakers have done an amazing job to showcase the rock and make it user friendly. The family who has preserved this awesome archeological find has done us all a great service by making this public. It’s a beautiful area.

The Rock is very easy to find as there are signs at the main road and all turns to get there. It is an interesting item to see and think about its history. It is well displayed with a platform around most of it so you are not walking through a field. There is nothing to see but the rock, but still It is well worth a short stop, especially if you like local or NC history.

I am surprised at the terrible reviews. This is not a state park or museum. It is a large rock with writing that even the Cherokee people think of as ancient. Don’t plan to spend the day. Take a bit of time to contemplate this strange thing and the ancient mountains where it is located. There are similar, smaller rocks in this region. Who made them?

Great for history buffs like me. Could be boring for anyone else. You can find all sorts of interpretations of the rock’s drawings online, but no one really knows what the drawings mean. There is a small sign for Judaculla Rock on Hwy 107 at Caney fork road, but there is no sign for Judaculla Rock once you get on Caney Fork. We missed the road at first. No cell service for Google Maps navigation. The road dead ends just past the rock at a private residence. We were alone so had no problem turning around and parking. There is no parking lot, so could get tight if many cars show up. Beautiful and Quiet place.

This site had been on my bucket list for some time so when an opportunity presented itself I was delighted.
Judaculla Rock Is 3.5 miles off 107 out of Cullowhee, NC. It is well marked and easy to find.

Judaculla Rock, one of western North Carolina’s oldest and most mystifying landmarks, is found only a few miles south of Cullowhee. Forty-eight feet in circumference, this soapstone boulder is covered with about 150 glyphs – circles, lines, crosses, and human and animal shapes. These “messages of a vanished race” are thought to have been carved more than a thousand year ago. According to Cherokee legend, however, the markings are actually the result of a slant-eyed giant named Tsul’ Kalu’, who made an 8-mile leap from the top of Balsam Mountain and landed near this boulder in Caney Creek valley, scratching the rock with his seven-fingered hand as he did so.
The site benefits from a recent “face lift,” with new signage and an observation deck added.

Directions on Caney Fork Rd?

After turning on Caney Fork road, you go about 2.6 miles to a road on the left. This road leads to the rock. When I went in the spring there was no road sign or rock sign. The left turn onto this road is more like a sharp fork in Caney Fork road. It dead ends at Judaculla rock. Be careful. Google maps can take you right there but there is no cell phone service in this spot.
