Beautiful riverside park. Stayed overnight in Changsha for logistics, but were pleasantly surprised by the Orange Island walk. We arrived dark, the subway was taking a steam locomotive, otherwise we couldn't keep up. 3 km walk to the monument, it looks like a steam locomotive can be taken one way. This is fantastic city lighting! I'd advise you to come in when it's still light, take a walk and wait for the illuminations. We were with a guide, so everything was easy to organize, nowhere to stray and passed in line. China Discovery helped with the organization. It is a very interesting experience to immerse yourself in the life of a living modern city, because China is not only historical palaces and temples, to find yourself in the natural environment, among young people, not tourists is very interesting. Everything in the park is completely comfortable and conveniently organized.

We visited the Orange Isle where the giant head of a young Mao Zedong is located. On the day of our visit, the park was crowded with locals and tourists as it was a weekend.
We took the cute colorful train and enjoyed a panaroma view of the park.
A nice place with the statue surrounded among orange trees, flowers, willow trees and the view of the river.
A must visit place!

The most important tourist attraction for many visitors is a 32-meter-tall granite statue of Chairman Mao Zedong's head when he was about 32 years old. Changsha takes great pride in being the place where young Mao received his education and where he developed some of his communist ideals. The construction of this statue took place between 2007 and 2009.

The park is beautiful. Especially with all the flowers and oranges (you cannot eat or touch). The Mao monument us both giant and majestic. It's crowded though. Bring water and patience.

Un'isola verde situata sul fiume che attraversa Changsha. Non solo interessante per il monumento a Mao Zedong, ma anche per i templi, le aree verdi. Consiglio di rimanere nel parco fino a quando non fa buio, perché dall'Orange Island Park è possibile ammirare la skyline di Changsha.

来长沙的几日选择在这里，酒店很新，酒店楼下就有茶颜悦色特别棒。
酒店是空中大堂，景观很漂亮
酒店的服务人员真的都特别好，尤其客房部的大姐们主动问候客户还很热情。

Orange island park is a pleasant place to visit right in the middle of the river running through the city. It’s got a convenient location with metro line 2 stopping there directly and a bridge you can walk across if you so choose as well. The park is quite long and boasts a few different highlights such as a “beach” park, various gardens, ponds and arbor groves to walk through, as well as a large statue of the head of a young Mao. The head has a museum focused on his early life as well, though this was closed for renovations when we went. The park is free to walk through but it also features a shuttle and tram system that costs about 45RMB and allows for up to 5 hop ons at designated stops. The tram is worth the price if you want to explore the entire island without burning yourself out. We visited right after climbing mt Yuelu and found the tram quite helpful! It’s really a lovely walk through the island, with a few nice buildings like a pagoda, though there’s not much in the way of other activities or historical/architectural sights to see. I suggest visiting on a clear day for some open air strolling

Having just enjoyed an amazing lunch, we wanted to walk it off and this was the perfect place. Despite it being really cold, we loved to see all the activity in the park - perfect to see so many people having fun and enjoying a winter’s afternoon. The island contains a myriad of places to explore, from bamboo gardens, to sculpture gardens to little grottos and scenic lakes. We caught the subway over for 2RMB and then leisurely strolled to the end of the island to check out the young Chairman Mao statue. We decided to catch the miniature train back (40RMB) - something really popular to do, but bye long queue moved quickly.

The 32-meter in height granite monument of Mao Zedong's head is one of the main attractions of Orange Island. I assume it gets its name from the many orange orchards on the island. It is famous for its rich tasting oranges. .

橘子洲很大，逛一圈至少要两三个小时。挨着湘江，到橘子洲头有很大的毛泽东雕像，伟岸！旁边摘了许多橘子树，很适合散步。

Do you happen to know if they start selling oranges during early October?
I'm planning to go there on early 5th October - 8th October 2019, but it would be such a disappointment if they do not start selling the fruit yet.

Hi,
We were there at the beginning of November and we did not see anyone selling oranges on the grounds. However there were signs informing tourists not to pick the oranges from the trees.

On speaking to my wife she said that the Brazilian restaurant is in the grassed park area just past the administration building and a large restaurant inside. It is on the left hand side as you walk to the bathing area.
I vaguely remember seeing it now at the music festival in September.
