Maryborough is such a walkable town and here is a good first stop after the excellent information centre. A pleasant park on the river with a fine Victorian band rotunda apparently imported from Scotland. And of course with a neighbouring hall for the local brass band! Plus some fine sculptures and a number of antique naval guns on the promenade. Echoes of times past. Further emphasised by the fine war memorial and the adjacent Anzac Park.

I was told about the park by the information centre and also the lady who ran the motel where I was staying, so I was looking forward to seeing it. I was in the City Centre just after 7am to maximise my day to ensure that I missed nothing! This is where I was planning to go before going to the Story Bank. I parked nearby and knew as I walked I was going to be distracted ( and I was as I gazed at the historic buildings) because there is something distinctly appealing about the city of Maryborough. I feel it would be wrong if you didn't feel a certain comfort being here... it's so beautiful.
Before proclamation as a park, the Queen's Park site was the location of a boiling down works operated by Edmund Blucher. Following the gazettal of the site as a Reserve for Botanical Gardens in October 1873, Trustees were appointed. They were Henry Palmer, Peter Graham, George Howard, Henry Stoward and Richard Bingham Sheridan, who was subsequently elected as Chairman by his fellow Trustees.
There is a memorial for Sheridan who was born in Ireland. He arrived in Australia in 1842 and found work as a farm manager, by 1846 he had joined the H.M.Customs Department. It was in 1869 that he first arranged plantings for this park. What is it they say about humble beginnings? By 1873 he was elected chairman for the Botanic Gardens ( Queens Park). The memorial is old old world fountain that is exceptionally beautiful with frogs atop it.
There is much to look at in the gardens... from the Memorial Gates, to the War Memorial, to the Rotunda and Fountain, to the Gallipoli trail, the naval guns along the water, the John Bidwill headstone , Andrew Petrie's Expedition memorial and much more.
As you walk through the park you can't help but be mesmerised by it's beauty on the edge of Mary River. This is surely a park that will capture your heart ... it's an ideal place for romantic walks... or simply to think. Whatever your choice for being here ... enjoy! It really is somewhere very special.

Beautiful park with lots of flowers and trees and a waterfall at one end that was really lovely. Worth a stroll through or picnic as there's plenty of shade.

Beautiful park and gardens right on the Mary River. Has quite a few different features from massive fig trees, to a wisteria draped arched walkway, flowering bougainvillea near one of the ANZAC monuments, gorgeous flower beds, a magnificent Norfolk Island pine, and an amazing sausage tree. We were there in late October and the afternoon breeze off the river on a hit day was very pleasant.
A great asset for Maryborough. Well done to all those who take care of it.

This park is well worth the visit. It is immaculate, well cared for and the gardens are spectacular - particularly the fig trees. Wonderful views of the port and river. A great place for a picnic.

We stopped off and went for a walk through Queens Park to stretch our legs.
My husband and I reall liked the park and where extremely impressed with the ANZAC display. The boats filled with flowers were fabulous, the WWI soldiers were well positioned but what really came home were the marching feet noise from the speakers. It was quite daunting and very moving.
The gardens a lovely and the naval guns near the Mary River were great.
In short we were very impressed with this park.

Nice spot to stop and take it all in. Well laid out, peaceful, quiet and lots to see. Train ride, Bert Hinkler aviation museum , historic museum, Fairymead house and the local gardens. You can spend hours there just relaxing, the kids will love the train ride around the gardens
