‪We attended Father Roberts's fantastic piano recital and fun-themed night. Lots of people dressed up and it was so colourful. We really enjoyed the exclusive private tour of the Abby church organ. All very good value and terrific wholesome delicious food, all-inclusive. I really enjoyed Abbot John's lamb cutlets, so yummy. We added on overnight accommodation in the historic New Norcia hostel, which was first class. Very convenient to where the buffet meal was and warm cosy log fires. Although it was shared facilities/ablutions, this was not a problem. The room was clean, warm and a comfy bed with a lovely balcony. The staff were kind and happy thank you, Joyce. I would recommend visiting and attend further concerts and Abbot's Table Dinners plus staying at the other ranges of accommodation in the town.‬

‪Nice scenery, however unable to visit inside. Very refreshing to have a walk around with beautiful nature surrounded around the building.‬

‪We were looking forward to visiting the Monastery but unfortunately it was not open to us on the day and we had to suffice with views through the wrought iron gates. Our guide explained that the present building replaced the original mission building which was constructed in 1847. There is a statue of St. Benedict of Nursia dating to 1903 located on the driveway to the building. We were also told that only seven monks now reside in the monastery. Visitors can book into the guesthouse if wishing to experience monastic life and can also attend early mass in the Monastery Oratory and on Saturdays can 'Meet a Monk" in the Monastery Parlour. Methinks a return visit will be scheduled to participate in these experiences.‬

‪Two small families with children aged 11-13 trekked around New Norcia. We did not do the two hour tour so missed out on access to some of the important buildings (this was accidental). Independently walking around took a lot longer than two hours a guided tour takes.

Very interesting, good information at the different sites to read if you don’t have a guide. There are two guided tours, 11am and I think 1pm. If you don’t do the tour then you miss access to buildings. You can enter the church.

In the gift shop you can purchase a small selection of breads and goods. I bought a large Boston bun, a very nice sweet treat. Currently the hostel is closed so a nice meal is not available, there is a roadhouse for food. So bring a picnic for the bread you can buy from the gift shop. ‬

‪Husband and I stayed one night in the Guesthouse during our recent wildflower escapade.
We did the 2 hour town tour with Gary, our guide. He is very passionate about preservation of the place and knows the history very well presenting it in an informal manner. He even gave us a piano recital.
The town oozes serenity and hopefully it will get restored to its former glory. It is the only Monastic town in Western Australia and deserves to be looked after
Our accommodation in the Guesthouse was basic, clean and in very pleasant surroundings. The beds and pillows are very comfortable.
We attended the nightly vespers and had dinner in the dining room which was soup for entree and rissoles and salad for mains. The bread was baked at the New Norcia Bakery known for beautiful bread and it didn’t disappoint. There was plenty of food so nobody went hungry.
It was nice just to walk around the grounds and feel the peace. The church bells weren’t working when we were there and we hope they will be repaired soon as it will add to the feel of the place to hear them‬

‪I am sorry to have to contribute a negative review here.

We visited New Norcia on a day tour out of Perth. We knew nothing of it, and I passed the time by looking up the history of the place, on the journey there.

I think now the best thing anyone can do is to stay away from New Norcia. I thought that it had a grim, grey depressing air about it, probably due to the cloud on my mind put there by my reading of its history.

The trouble for me was that absolutely no mention was made by the tour group guide of what actually went on at New Norcia, concerning the children who boarded there under the care of the Church. We were refused a look at facilities where they lived their little lives.

All that is a matter of sad public record now, so I will leave you to Google it if you wish.

As to more recent events, we were served a lunch of fish and chips, which was uninspiring, had a look around a rudimentary museum, and were shepherded to the gift shop, the usual sort of thing. That was it.

I'd recommend, to those looking for tours around Perth, that their time will be much better spent elsewhere.‬

‪found this place very interesting and casual place to visit .very calming ,nothing is rushed it just happens around you . not being too spiritual i found a connection with the services (wrong term i know ) meals simply and tasty .No frills but really who needs it. accommodation basic .clean .make your own bed ,thought this was a good idea.maybe some motels should adopt this practice.
i think it is suggested to donate approx $80.00 . for a room for 2 + meals etc,.come on definitely worth 120+ Scuttle butt said some just put a empty envelope in the box .Gee how lowsy.
go visit. join in .you will come away with a new experience in your journey‬

‪Like Benedict himself and Salvado, the monks continue 'to make hospitality their special boast'. These are real men striving to remain steadfast to their unique call to the sacred in their very disciplined lifestyle. More than another bucket list item to tick off, this place offers the reality of living in the present, aside from the frenetic pace of life. We joined this community weekly for Sunday High Mass and enjoyed their hospitality afterwards. We were impressed by many who offer their services and own special to the monks - not to exclude the very simple orchard work especially in picking season.‬

‪New Norcia is an unique place to visit, being the only monastic town in Australia. There are only a few monks left at the monastery and we were lucky to meet Father Robert during our tour. He played the piano and also the organ for us, which literally made our seats vibrate. Our guide, Sue, was very informative and had actually worked there for some time. Also we had a man on the tour who had spent his senior schooling there, giving another slant to the story. The tour has to be recommended as you get to see inside a lot of the buildings in the township on it. There is an Art Gallery and museum too. We had lunch in the hotel, which was delicious, and the men in the family enjoyed the locally brewed beer, purchasing some to take home! A really good day out.‬
