The park surrounding the house is beautiful. Live music happens regularly. The museum is quite small with a few interesting artefacts. If you have a Hamilton library card entry is free so go take a peek. Wouldn't pay to enter the museum though.

Every Sunday night in the summer, bring a chair and join the free donation concerts. Enjoy a stroll on the footpath through the grounds.

this is a place for family and friends too enjoy nature and history of Ancaster. in the summer free concerts on sunday good spot for a picnic as well

We are very happy to have such a great review. The Ancaster Horticultural Society has wonderful volunteers who spend time from May to October keeping the grounds looking beautiful. The concerts are a womnderful way to appreciate some of what Fieldcote has to offer.

Attended Sunday's concert with Laura Cole. Wonderful setting. Great tribute to Jim Greene who built the bandshell.

Jim's Family were there as well and took great pride in how he was honoured. This Summer's upcoming series looks to be quite enjoyable.

Love the location and listen to entertainment put on by the town for free. Wonderful evenings out. Meet your friends and neighbours just when you thought it was your idea to invite them next time. Wonderful loud secret.

There are so many historical sites in this area of Southern Ontario....do yourself a favour and check out the Public Library for a list of many places to visit....and you can even get a pass if you put your name on a list. This will entitle you free admission....a wonderful summer's activity

It was our Sesquicentennial Exhibit about the Farmer Family of Ancaster. It tells the story of how they journeyed from “The Ark” of family lore through 150 years of life in Ancaster. Explore how their world changed between 1867 to 2017 & discover key points in National History.

Every Summer in Ancaster there is a number of nice concerts that happen outside of the Museum, on a large beautiful park with an amphitheatrical shape. Always enjoyable!

I went to the museum on a monday, knowing the actual museum was closed. But i had read online that the "garden" was open to walk and explore even when the museum was closed.
I went with the intentions of going on a little walk with my son, however the trails were way too bumpy to ever get a stroller through there. I definitely would not ever consider this a "garden" more like an unkept forrest.

We are sorry that you didn't have a great experience at Fieldcote. While the museum is a cultural heritage centre with an emphasis on the collection, preservation and exhibition of local history, - the grounds are enjoyed by many., Volunteers from the Ancaster Horticultural Society do extensive weeding, and planting around the museum itself. The small forest which covers several acres is left in it's natural state as much as is possible. For the past three years this walking trail has hosted an " Annual Pumpkin Walk." featuring over 150 carved pumpkins lighting the trail. Last October we had over 1000 parents & children exploring. This year it will happen on October 18th. You are invited to come out to see if you're interested.

During the summer months, Every Sunday Fieldcote Museum host a great array of talent at the bandstand on the beautiful museum grounds. 7 til 8 ish, bring a chair, some bring picnics and for any donation you want to give. Fabulous local and surrounding Artists, you can even dance.
On Friday nights through out the Summer starting at 9,free movies, there is list on their website.
Watch it outside under the stars, amazing. Parking is free and parking attendants kindly show you the different areas, we bring folding chairs. This truly is a magical place!

This civic museum is nestled away in a forest by the village of Ancaster; a suburb of Hamilton. The museum is two rooms and a small archive in a old house. The exhibit on display until 2014 is called the ‘Bloody Assize.’
The exhibit tells of an court case for treason that happened in 1814. The display is very informative and it dispels all the misconceptions about the trial. There also a interesting display of political cartoons from the War of 1812.
The museum is just a block away from shopping and restaurants and it has a shaded picnic area. The Canadian Open Golf happens at the local golf course. Nearby towards the west is a road called Lover’s Lane and beyond that is a scenic drive along Mineral Springs Road. Along this road you can find the Griffin House a National Historic Site that was the pioneer home of a black settler. And you will find the Hermitage an old ruins and picnic site in the Dundas Conservation Area. These roads are good for cycling and the conservation area has plenty of trails including the Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail. The museum is a good afternoon outing and a starting point to explore the area.

I apologise for missing this query - which was quite some time ago. Fieldcote's hours however have recently changed. We are now open Tuesday to Saturday from noon until 4:00pm. Closed on Sundays & Mondays.
