Lovely place for a walk and a decent cafe but way too many dogs. It’s about time the National Trust realised not everyone wants dogs sniffing and barking around them when they go for a cup of tea. Dogs are after all animals and should be treated as such. There are enough seats outside for people with dogs and should not be allowed in restaurants. They should also be kept on leads at all times while walking in the Downs.

The walks are lovely and secure for dogs. Plenty of parking. Unfortunately the National Trust cafe is very poor, even the staff look fed up! Orders are placed & paid for at one till area then everyone stands around the same area waiting for the food to arrive. Needs a better system to reduce number of people all waiting around for food. Not up to NTs usual standard, nor is the food quality. Such a shame as we looked forward to eating after our walk.

Café used to be great. Now...awful panini, greasy, like it had been there for hours. Would have sent it back but starving.
Awful. Never again.

Plenty of parking and beautiful gift shop and restaurant here with toilet facilities. When you reach the visitor centre you can see for miles across the downs and the views are amazing. Such green and beautiful scenery. 3 main walks across the site. We did the downs walk around the burial mounds and the walk to the Tree Cathedral which are about 3 miles each. Plenty of shade as you walk through the trees and lots of birds and insects to look out for along the way. Staff in the shop were very helpful and pleasant. Would definitely recommend.

Me and a friend went here for a walk after hearing about it and it’s quite the walk. You have multiple paths to take and it took us hours to explore pretty much everything.

This is a review of the NT-run cafe, and not the area itself, which has fantastic views and is great to walk around.
This cafe is shockingly poor compared to other NT places, with so many things wrong so I presume it must be the mgmt that just doesn't care or have any experience.
The cafe is long with plenty of tables and chairs but I found that the premium spaces by the windows are often taken up by many folks with their heads buried for long periods in laptops or mobiles. Why on earth sit next to (and importantly obscure) such a great view and then proceed to ignore it completely? There needs to be a "screen-free" area by the windows.
The place is excessively noisy with many large hard flat surfaces amplifying the sound - some wall hangings or plants would help diffuse the echoes.
Chairs screech as they are scraped along the floor (silent feet are available).
The service counter had no apparent queuing system with it ending up a random free for all.
Tables are left dirty and not cleared.
The indoor toilets were closed but with no signs anywhere guiding to the outside ones. I had to wander around the building past a construction zone to find them hidden out the back.
A shame to spoil such a lovely area.
Take a flask, your own food and sit outside!

Nice views but poor food in cafe. Tiny jacket potatoes with very small portions of cheese and coleslaw. Not up to the standard of other NT venues which is usually quite good. Disappointing.

Fabulous views, and much of the walk is accessible. The huge disappointment is the cafe, and I see many others are complaining. NT you really need to get your act together on your food offerings.
In a nutshell, don't bother with the cafe, take your own as there is loads of seating.

You would need to get a train to Luton then the number 35 (Centrebus) to Dunstable Downs. The view up here is amazing so well worth a visit.

How would a mobility scooter fair on a day out here?

There is a hard path that runs from the new car park near the building accross the top of DDowns. You can take in the view which is stunning. The path is not flat however as it follows the natural formation. Other than this path all other paths are off road and more like tracks. Some of the fields may be ok but it would be weather dependant. Hope this helps. Its worth going, such a stunning place full of history.
Can we put our tent up on the grass?
Happy travellers

Don't know but ask at the centre.
I want to go with my 1 year old but not sure if I should take a buggy or the baby backpack?

Backpack. Especially as it has rained a lot recently and overflow parking is on a field. This way you are not restricted to the path, but wear wellies and bare in mind that it is windy up there. Wrap up baby! Enjoy.

Are the wallabies still on Dunstable downs

It was only ever the ones that escaped from Whipsnade Zoo that made it to the downs. They used to be seen from the B4506 (Dunstable Road) hopping up and down the hill but within the grounds of the zoo. Not seen them in this area for a long time but they are still wandering around the zoo itself.
Can you take BBQs to Dunstable downs?
