We started our visit at the Woodland Car Park where a lady called Gill gave us probably the friendliest and most helpful information that anyone has ever given us, anywhere! Maps weren't just provided but opened and routes suggested according to our needs.
Heading up to the house for a wander round the extensive gardens and grounds, we were delighted to have the place virtually to ourselves on a very showery Friday but the heavy rain didn't ruin our visit; the views down to the Thames and across Berkshire were fabulous in the changing light.
As new NT members, we will be returning frequently to this place.

Absolutely huge grounds to explore from wild woodlands, to a yew maze, to a beautiful parterre. Large hotel (not for the riff raff) and gilded tower in the grounds too. All beautifully kept, varieties outstanding. The mysterious music room makes you think. The cafe served good food but sadly on dirty crockery. Milk came in a filthy jug, which really let the quality of the meal down.

Plenty of different walks depending on what you want - from steps down to the river, or the flatter areas around the house or water gardens. Good tearoom - but there's also the Astor Grill!

There is always something new to see in the grounds here. The gardening team are amazing and the cafe and staff are fantastic

Beautiful grounds and plenty to see. However I would avoid it like the plague at weekends unless you enjoy listening to badly behaved children screaming and shrieking; as soon as you walk through the gate it's just a cacophony of noise. The restaurant has great coffee and a large selection of tasty treats but again, be prepared for children running up and down shouting and yelling. Nice to visit during the week, weekends are hell unless you're the owner of a noisy, ill mannered child.

Visited with family 2ad 2ch (8&6) plus dog. Dog isn’t allowed near family facilities so kids were bored and upset, had to split off so not a good family day out. Ended up leaving after a short walk and brief split up so kids could go in the park and maze. Never again.

The estate is interesting but I found the cafe is not in a good location, surely a new building would be a better bet with a good roomy toilet for children, buggys, wheelchairs, places to hook up the dogs and all the paraphanalia of a walk in the countryside?
It could instead be either in the Walled Garden (imagine if that was not a car park but restored to use with its own produce) or positioned discreetly at the end of the lower terrace under the trees looking out at the wonderful view? Both locations would surely have been better than reusing a conservatory - with all the energy problems that the extreme conditions in a glasshouse involves?
Also it is not easy to know how to reach the site from Taplow Elizabeth Line station. Is there a bus?
Incidentally if you arrive by car chances are you will get in at the wrong entrance and end up in the hotel. But if so look at the gorgeous Fountain of Love as you retrace your route then fork right at the fountain 'roundabout' .

Using our National Trust membership, a large estate with many hidden gems. But be prepared for lots of walking.
Loved the water garden and would recommend visiting these first before the site becomes too busy. However lots of space for everyone.
Look out for the fruit garden, no one seems to visit there. Very pretty.
Again another fountain feature not working (I seem to be cursed for finding any in my area where there is a working ornamental fountain!)
Would gladly visit again (bringing walking boots next time)
Refreshments were normal national trust menu.

Cliveden is on our doorstep so we’ve been a few times . While friends were staying we took them there and it wasn’t until they pointed out what poor maps and signage there was that we noticed it too. Extensive grounds to walk around however and would recommend the little boats to take out.

Are you dog friendly

Hi, We are dog friendly & dogs are allowed almost everywhere apart from a few areas. Please pick up a dog walking map either from the website or from the Welcome Team when you arrive - this shows areas where dogs can be off lead, where on short leads etc. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Hi,
For NT members entry & parking is free. For non-members there is an entry cost per adult and per child (under 5s are free) which you pay as you arrive on to the estate and there is no extra cost for parking.

There a NT café on site. As I don't live in the area I am not sure of their timings. I am expect if you messaged them someone will get back to you.

Train unless you can drive there
Taplow (not Sunday) 2½ miles and Burnham 3 miles are both on the London Paddington to Reading mainline. Taxi office/rank at both stations. We do not advise walking from these stations along the main roads. These are country roads with no pavements and very fast traffic (60 mph). Bourne End 2 miles is on the Maidenhead to Marlow branch line. There is no taxi rank. These stations are served by First Great Western. £1 voucher for shop or café for those arriving by 'green transport'.

To be honest don’t really know I suppose it would depend on the size of your party, it was very busy when we went and there was 5 of us and it was no issue at the time !

I am sorry but I don't recall seeing any. However, there is plenty of access for wheelchairs, pushchairs etc

I've never seen any bikes there - unlikely as it is a popular venue for families with young children and walkers of all ages.

Cliveden itself is high above the river, hence the lovely views. To get to the Thames you have to descend to the river either by foot or, as in our case, by buggy (especially helpful on our return!_ The information centre, where you buy your boat tickets, will advise - they are very friendly and helpful.
