‪Easy to find. Nice walk. Not a Japanese garden a few bridges some bamboo. Disappointed. Needs TLC. Can walk round in about 20 mins‬

‪Visited the Japanese garden today with my family, very easy to get to (partly helped by the last review on here) very helpful :)

Seems to have been tamed and trimmed back which was nice to see after seeing some of the older reviews on here.

I would recommended suitable footwear as there are some slopes and slippy steps to climb but it is easily accessible, we took our toddler along and although he had to be carried up some parts he was able to manage a fair amount & loved Exploring the garden & surrounding woodland.

All in all a lovely little walk & child friendly.‬

‪It took us two visits to find the Japanese garden, so hopefully this will help someone!

From the car park, take the track up by the toilets for about 50m, then take the first gap in the wall you see on the left. Go up a few steps, then go left walking behind and above the car park. Keep following this path for a couple of hundred metres, keeping to the right when you see a plant with huge leaves. You’ll start going uphill, reaching some steps through some low bamboo. At the top of the steps is the garden.

The garden itself consists of a few ponds and bridges, some maple trees and bamboo. It’s been partially restored, but there’s not much of it so you’ll only spend maybe ten minutes there.

If you take a wrong path you’ll end up going around in circles in a small wood as we did the first time.

It’s a bit rocky and slippery in places so not ideal for anyone with mobility problems, but worth a look if you happen to be in the area. Hopefully it will continue to be restored to its former glory.‬

‪Initially quite steep but it the levels out. Suitable footwear is required as it can be rough and muddy underfoot.‬

‪Hidden in the middle of Giggle Alley is a fabulous Japanese garden(s) ... A superb walk around (bit hilly for those who are not able to go far) but a certain must when here in Eskdale.‬

‪I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. It's a wood. It's not very big. It's not very exciting. No, I wouldn't recommend that you visit it.‬

‪Giggle Alley is beautiful but incredibly creepy. Neither my husband or I believe in ghosts, nor are easily spooked but both of us found the walk very creepy and unsettling. I suppose it would be a great place to go if you wanted this feeling!‬

‪We found this little gem when looking for the the local shop to get ice lollies! We walked through the woods with the dog and 2 children under 8 and stumbled accross the japanese gardens. Its a beautiful wood with some gorgeous plants and trees! Walk only took about 20 minutes but was nice and shaded which was just what we needed! Theres a toiket block at the car park too which was very handy.‬

‪Nice woodland walk. Some interesting plants and trees like gunnera but not that special! Circular tracks around the hill.‬

‪Came for a lovely spring walk here today and it was a lovely experience. Its very sad to see that the Japanese garden which has been there since 1914 is a very sad state of disrepair 😥

The last review on here was in 2016 so I'm not sure if there are any volunteers anymore looking after the area, if not its a shame. The weather was lovely and the walk its self was delightful, its a good place for families and people to walk their dog.

We did stumble across what appears to be an abandoned farm house, which was at the other side of the woods down a dirt track, it had a very eerie feeling about it as well 🤔😕

I hope over the summer that the Japanese garden is tided up and looks more presentable, hopefully there ate volunteers ‬
