Come on a Friday or Saturday for a price reduction and stop in the lower car park which seems to be free.
Some interesting displays in the shed to pass the time for a tour; which is the highlight of the experiance.
The tour itself is marvelous. I have never seen working overhead shaft driven machinery in action before, it is impressive to say the least. The knowledgeable lady doing the tour was very good and made some bobbins on the machines as a demonstration.

This was a fascinating visit, the tour gives you a real insight into the work done at the mill. It combines well with a lovely walk from there up to High Dam, which used to power the mill.

The guided tour around this Mill was excellent and really explained all the elements of the production process to produce the essential bobbins used to allow supply threads to the Victorian markets and a great many years after.

Lots of parking and picnic benches. No cafe but hot and cold drinks and snacks available.

Thought this was going to be a tad dull, how wrong could I have been. We were escorted by a young lady named Harriet and she could not have been more enthusiastic and full of information. One of the most interesting historical places that I have visited.

Got ferry from Bowness to Lakeside and walked to the mill. Plenty of picnic benches on site. Welcoming staff. Joined a tour of the mill. Tour guide was so well informed and entertaining. Many machines still in working order. A fantastic visit.

The guided tour was soooo informative and sooo interesting! Surprisingly so! We booked this as a rainy day activity as something to do, not expecting very much, but we were blown away by the half hour tour. The lady who led us around the factory made it all so interesting and demonstrated several of the machines, which was fantastic to see. The enthusiastic and knowledgeable team really make this a must visit attraction. Big thanks to the lady that led us round - she had dreadlocks.
This is the only working bobbin mill left in the Lake District today. The tour includes demonstrations of the working machinery which is so interesting to see and still produces bobbins for sale today. Tours seem to be every hour on the half past. We had booked our tickets for 12pm, so after checking in we had a walk around the site for half an hour. A few buildings to see and lots of information to read in the barn area.
Our tour guide also recommended a nearby walk to the nearby reservoir, which we went on afterwards and really enjoyed. It is a short walk uphill to Finsthwaite High Dam through the woods, starting just a 5 minute walk from Stott Bobbin. It was a lovely walk and we would highly recommend to those who have the time - we enjoyed this walk much more than our later visit to Grizedale Woods.
Our directions to Stott Bobbin took us to a tiny carpark right next to the buildings, there was only about 12 spaces and most were disabled. We were surprised at how small the carpark was, but only later realised that if we had continued along the road and turned right, traveling around the edge of the National Trust site, we would of reached the main carpark, which had space for 30 cars or so. This carpark is just a short 5 minute walk from all the main buildings, so would suggest those with good mobility park here - we would of if we had only realised!
We understand now why this site is so highly recommended - surprisingly so! Expect to spend around 1-2 hours here. Open Wednesday to Sunday. Tickets are £10 each or free for English Heritage members. Parking £3 or free for members.

A new low in customer service - I pre booked and prepaid for tickets for the weekend of 30/31 July some time ago. Despite having all the relevant contact details, they did not bother to contact me to let me know that the mill would be closed due to “operational reasons”. We are understandably not impressed to visit at the appointed time and find it closed. Amazing that three days later, they have finally let us know they were closed and will refund the payment in 10 days time!! I would give a minus rating if I could and please don’t bother to reply, there is absolutely no justification for such shoddy behaviour.

Scott Park is an absolute gem, providing a wonderful insight into an industry that disappeared over 50 years ago. We had a fascinating guided tour and demonstration from the enthusiastic and knowledgeable team. Well worth a visit and the entrance fee, if like us, you are not members of English Heritage.

This is very interesting place to visit. Although not immediately promising (especially on a wet wednesday morning) but we were really impressed by the care and enthusiasm of the guide and all the staff we met. We had a fascinating and very informative guided tour, incredible to think that it was still a working manufacturer until as recently as 1971. Well worth a visit even if you are not an English Heritage member.

Sorry I can’t help with this. Have you tried contacting the Mill or Tourist Board? We had a lovely meal at the Swan at Newby Bridge. We ate outside as big area by the river that would certainly be dog friendly. It was quite narrow but there were plenty of pushchairs so I should think wheelchairs would be okay. Food was good but price was quite high but not extortionate.

Yes we sell the Stott Park Bobbin Mill guidebook with the red spine in our gift shop. We also have various sizes of original bobbins for sale and you can find some unique items made out of bobbins. We have kitchen roll bobbins, egg timer bobbins and bobbin stringholders with scissors to name a few items
