We visited the lost village of Derwent on two days. The parking at Fairholmes is to be commended with clean toilets, refreshments and information available. A leisurely walk and you are at to site of the village. We travelled from Norfolk especially as we’d visited the ruins in the the late 1980’s and around 4 years ago.
It was a safe explore as long as you are respectful of the site and aware of the mud and steep drops. Highly recommended to visit at anytime as it’s is also a wonderful walk when the water level is back to its usual depth

The reservoir was almost devoid of water. Replaced by mud, grass and sightseers.
There is a good Visitor Centre and plenty of Parking.
Now we are in Autumn sensible clothing is a must!
Definitely worth a visit!

We are fortunate to live fairly local to Ladybower. We have had many lovely walks here in all 4 of the seasons. So much nature to see. One of my favourite places to visit.

The southernmost of the three reservoirs in the Upper Derwent Valley, it also seems to be the most popular if only for the drain holes or circular bellmouth spillway. They looked good, but would’ve looked even better if they were overflowing on the day I visited. A sad reflection of our overheating planet.

Beautiful place to visit. Been many times before and no doubt we will visit again. The water level really low on this visit so was able to see the scary plug holes in full. It has to be a must visit for anyone travelling through the Peak District.

Lovely for a spot of fresh air.
Car park is very accessible (if a teeny bit expensive if you're visiting the other reservoir also (£3 regardless of length of stay)) and the toilets were exceptionally clean.
Walking from the car park to the dam is on a pavement alongside the road; however, we discovered there's also a wooded walk on the opposite side, so makes for a good, short round trip.
Lots of lovely views, even on a slightly grey day.

Parked in the main car park right by the plug holes. It is an extremely busy car park so best to arrive early. It is £3 to park all day. From the car park it is a less than 10 min walk to the plug holes. As it was June, the water level was low so we didn’t see the water running down the plug holes which was a shame but they are still impressive (and a bit scary!)
We walked past both plug holes and then carried on the path going around the reservoir. We walked about 45 mins before deciding to turn back as there wasn’t much view really, mostly just bushes, and we had no idea how long the walk was as there was no indication given on any signs. The reservoir is huge and I think it would take a few hours to walk round it entirely which we didn’t feel the need to do this, especially with an 11 year old and two 14 year olds in tow who didn’t want to walk miles.

Really loved the reservoir walk, the gift and information centre (mid way around) is good, with clean toilets. The kiosk is appalling, really expensive and rude staff.
Views are stunning and very peaceful and clean.

Can't remember. I don't think so, but if you're driving the road to Kingtrees it might be wise not to take anything too high or too big as its a narrow, windy, tree lined road with little turning space at the end.

I would have to say no, as there are numerous notices saying no swimming.

Are you sure about your facts regarding the Ladybower connection with the dam busters? I don’t think the damn and reservoir was completed until 1945, two years after the raid took place. I think they used the Derwent reservoir.

I’m not sure which review you’ve read, my last Ladybower review doesn’t mention the Dam busters, but my Derwent review does, I’m well aware of the history, and both Howden & Derwent were used, but for future reference, the construction of Lady Bower began in 1935 being completed in 1943, it was finally filled by 1945, so I’m pretty sure that it was overflown by the aircraft of Operation Chastice.
Hi, which toilet facilities are available during the pandemic when visiting the reservoir.
