‪Well worth a visit, but avoid the bland watery coffee.‬

‪A large number of raptors in cages with interesting and educational notes. Entertaining and informative aerial display by the birds. The lady in reception was very abrupt and didn't take kindly to being told her coffee was undrinkable, merely saying there was coffee in the machine. She also strongly criticised handling of toys by children due to covid. Perhaps they should be placed out of reach of toddlers hands and she should go on a customer service course?‬

‪Birds of Prey Half Day experience.‬

‪I attended a half day birds of prey experience earlier this week which was a 2019 Christmas present that I'd not managed to do until now due to Covid. The whole visit was brilliant! The staff were very pleasant and knowledgable and the birds were beautiful and in tip top condition. The centre is very well organised and well looked after and it is obvious that the birds welfare is first and foremost. I stayed after my experience to look at all the birds and watch one of their flying demos which was really entertaining. I've been to a few different centres like this across the country but this one is top of my list. I will go again and highly recommend this centre. I recommend using the sat nav to find the centre.‬

‪My husband bought me a voucher for Owl Experience Christmas 2019,after ringing last June when voucher neared expirey date I was told were not doing them because of covid, but would be extended indefinitely,as we were spending three days at Masham 11th to 13th Oct I rang the previous weekend to book a place on Tues 12th.The person I spoke to said had no trace of my voucher in my name but I said my daughter would have bought it in her name, anyway no more was said and I booked for 12th, I asked for a time slot and all I was told was they opened at 10.30 till 5pm, so I gave my name explaining the voucher was from 2019, and was told all was dependant on the weather,as I came off the phone I said to my husband I thought it strange I had not been given a time slot.Anyway we duly arrived on the 12th at around 11am, only 3 cars were in the car park so was not busy,when I went to the shop to book in was met by a very rude lady with a very agressive attitude who said I should have been there at 10.15 and was now a no show, well I apologised and said clearly was some mix up because 10.15 had never been mentioned,she then waved a paper with the rules on saying I should have read it, and she had taken my booking, I wish to say I am a 75 year old lady,I do not have dementia and most certainly no time of 10.15 or a booking slot was given to me.As she continued to treat me in a very rude manner I became both upset and angry that she was so rude,there are ways of treating people with kindness and she certainly does not possess them,I am a stickler for turning up on time,and I realize it was of course my word against her's but 100 per cent I was not given a time.Then she went on to say it was a very old voucher,but that was hardly my fault due to covid resrtictions last year, we were being very careful anyway.I have not been treated in this way for an extremely long time,I decided being the good mannered person I try to be I left the voucher on the counter and walked out before I lost my temper with her.She then told my husband to ring at end of October to try and arrange something,his words to her "We will not be coming back" Whenever your centre on Yorkshire Vet with Peter everyone is always so nice,what happened to me on this particular day I wonder?But I was not onT.V.I have been on Trip Advisor a long time now and this sadly is the first time I have ever made a negative comment.However my day was not spoilt too long we went to Thorpe Perrow,had a super day there and met their Birds of Prey,talking also to the two men who look after them and offered me an owl experinence from February.‬

Thank you for your version of the unfortunate events leading to this review, we feel we must address the misinterpretations within this review, unfortunately as in all cases there is always two sides to a story and our recollection is somewhat different to yours. The facts are yes you purchased a voucher in 2019 for an owl experience, yes you were booked in to do a half day birds of prey experience on 12 October. This was after a lengthy telephone call to the centre on 9th October 2021 as we had offered the change of experience from an owl experience to a half day birds of prey experience due the short notice and no availability of an owl experience on the three dates that were convenient to you, on termination of the call we always repeat the date of the booking and that booking in is from 10.15 for a 10.30 start and we will see you on the day This normally avoids any misunderstanding. If you left the call and were unsure of a "time slot", why did you not call back to double check? At the time of your visit (11.45am not 11am) you seemed very flustered and confused on arrival, once the receptionist had established that you were here for an experience day the receptionist explained that we had expected you between 10.15 and 10.30 you replied “oh I thought that’s when you opened” you started to disagree with the receptionist and you reacted in a very bazaar way, the receptionist did point out that this start time is clearly printed on your gift voucher in bold type and was confirmed to you at the time of booking. We find it strange that you have no recollection of this telephone call or the fact that your experience day was swapped from an owl experience to a half day birds of prey experience to accommodate your travel plans, after all it was only three days prior to your visit when you made the call and booking. You did indeed leave the shop area and another member of staff who was conducting the experience day on our course lawn area unaware of the events was distracted by your very animated gestures and bazaar behaviour when leaving the centre. The receptionist did continue the conversation with the gentleman accompanying you as he asked “is that it then” he was then told that if he would like to call us back we are still hosting experience days up to the end of October (the end of our flying season) and we can rebook the gift voucher in, the gentleman smiled, nodded and gave a thumbs up sign then went out of the shop. You have stated that due to the covid pandemic that you have been very careful which is commendable however you chose to ignore or not read the four large signs that you had passed requesting for you to wear a mask within the shop area to help protect our staff and other visitors as both you and the gentleman did not wear a mask. We find that your reaction to the error in start time was totally irrational and we found it hard to communicate further to you as you admit that you were angry and not listening to our receptionist explanations. Your one star review is not regarding the centre or the flying displays as you never actually entered the centre or seen the conservational work we do but merely a petty way of apportioning blame for your own error. Hopefully others reading this review will understand the difficulties we can sometimes experience when working with the general public.

‪Enjoyed a morning looking around all the cages containing a very good variety of birds of prey. Some of them we hadn’t seen before in similar venues. The birds appear well looked after and they are given time to fly freely. They have 3 flying displays per day and plenty of seating. The staff were very good and the birds seemed to enjoy the displays. A nice half day out.‬

‪Not the easiest of places to find but well worth it when you do.
Once you have paid your entrance fee your free to walk around and chat to the staff at your leisure just keep an eye on the times of the birds free flights.
Good seating around the show area so you get a good view of the birds in full flight.‬

‪We had such an amazing day at Thirsk Birds of Prey centre and so fortunate with the weather too.
Extremely clean and well maintained centre. Includes a small shop, outside seating next to the shop and a large grassy area if you want to take a picnic.
We were able to get very close to view all the birds.
There is a large seating area for the flying displays and an opportunity to view 3 separate displays with different birds each time.
Kerry, Dave and Colin were so knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about their work.
I had purchased a one hour Hawk walk voucher in advance for my partner’s birthday and a follower voucher for myself so I could take lots of photos ( phone to book your session)
Special thanks to Dave for making it a memorable experience for us both.
We were so glad to hear the Centre had survived through Covid/Lockdown and now open again to continue their great work.
We would highly recommend this a wonderful day out for all the family and would certainly visit again next time we were in the area.‬

‪Every thing about the half day bird of prey was so enjoyable ,the handlers so friendly and welcoming and very experienced.
They made the whole thing amusing and fun .
Cant recommend this highly enough our day there has made our holiday .‬

‪Great visit, lots of different birds of prey to see .
Great open show ,close proximity to the birds and very knowledgeable and proficient staff, who obviously care a great deal for the welfare if their feather friends

‪The flying display was excellent with an informative and funny commentary from someone who is clearly dedicated to the welfare of the birds. It was amazing to see the birds so close up, particularly some that are less common such as the various vultures. Our only disappointment was the miserable and unpleasant lady on the entrance desk. She's the first person you meet on arriving and she gives a really poor welcome. In fact not a welcome at all. If she was sacked the centre would be much better.‬
