‪We enjoyed a couple of hours looking around this beautiful home with its lovely interior! It felt a bit different from other national trust properties we have visited in the past. As it was such a wet day, we only had a short stroll in the gardens but couldn't fully explore the grounds and take in the stunning views. May come back for a walk one day. ‬

‪An interesting property ‬

‪The house is very interesting and a good introduction to the Arts and Crafts movement. It’s significant that it was built as a house in the country rather than as a “Country House “. So different from most properties in the National Trust portfolio.
Owing to a shortage of volunteers the upstairs was closed in the morning but we were able to pop back after lunch when the upper floor was open. Lunch in the cafe was good.
We didn’t explore the grounds as it rained throughout our visit. ‬

Very interesting / walks to go on.

Visited as part of National Trust - can be muddy so wear appropriate footwear‬

‪Beautiful house with stunning views. We went when they had the 70s exhibition. It was interesting to see the different prints from different eras.‬

‪We loved our trip to Standen today. The house is fantastic and every room has so much to see. What made our trip really special were the ladies on duty in the rooms. They were so knowledgable and seemed really passionate about the house. They answered all our questions ( and there were lots) even the silly questions, and were just so fun and welcoming. We had lunch in the Barn Cafe which was fine. Watch out for the potholes in the roads near Standon absolutely shocking!‬

‪Not the best National trust experience!!‬

‪It is quite a nice place set in the countryside-to visit and I’m sure the walks are very nice when they are all open.
The cafe however is another story, the staff are rude and unfriendly and the waiting time and disorganisation is very long and once we reached the till point to order what was on the the board, they had nothing left - which included not even a simple bowl of soup and no jacket potatoes either! That’s after they ignored my husband and served the next customer first. I have had this discourteous experience twice now and once you can think it’s a bad day but twice is just showing it for the dreadful unfriendly service and disappointing lack of food available. I think this is unacceptable and disgusting behaviour and disappointing.
Also the female toilets were absolutely splattered in nasties… Seriously what are they running here???‬

‪Christmas in the snow‬

‪We went to Standen yesterday , the gardens and trees covered in snow. It was magical.
The house was decorated for a family Christmas house party, Christmas trees and other decorations everywhere .
There was a massive tree in the barn cafe too, and we had warming minestrone soup with a big chunk of bread.
I highly recommend a visit this month .‬

‪Woodland Santa trail‬

‪Fun experience trail where we were welcomed by juggles the Elf on a penny farthing next to a giant present display. He kept us entertained with circus tricks then we were led for a sing song before seeing the man in green who had a nice grotto. Ringo and Bangles kept us entertaining whilst waiting in the cold but sons had a nice meeting with Santa. Only negatives were group was too big with way too many adults and a big dog so had a long wait in the cold.‬

‪Santa and the Elves…‬

‪We love Standen and have visited many times but our Woodland Walk with Elves to see Santa, topped them all! Went as a party of 6, including our 2 grandchildren, aged 11 & 6. Weather was terrible but we wrapped up and got on with it. Mr Juggles and the other Elves were brilliant, extremely funny and entertaining. We were treated to some acrobatics and juggling first, then we walked around the grounds and had a sing song in a gazebo, and then met the man himself, who had a great sense of humour (for the adults), the children got good quality gifts and we were even allowed an ‘Elfie’ photo, as we were the last for the day in the tent. Brilliant and well worth the money and we’ll definitely go back. Only point I’d like to raise is as it was dark by the time we left the tent, there was no lighting to find your way back by and the paths were very slippery in the rain but WELL DONE!!‬

‪This property visit was picked mainly because it did not need to be booked, unlike many local properties.

On arrival we were greeted by a volunteer who was cheerful and enthusiastic which set the tour for our visit.

The house has much of its original features and furniture so you can get a sense of what it was like to live there. The house is. Also is good condition.

On leaving the house you go directly into the shop, which although small has lots of NT usuals.

Cafe was pleasant, cake and tea good and staff friendly.‬
