This is one of the larger branches of the Geauga Park system. Its trails afford a view of diverse landscapes and features, including gorges and ponds, and are well-maintained. There are also several campsites. The only problem is that the nature center is always closed on weekends (and is closed by 5:00 p.m. on weekdays). Thus, we have never been able to visit it, and unless you are retired, unemployed, or a school pupil on a field trip, you’re not likely to be able to, either.

A great park and not too many visitors, which is good and bad. We took our two puppies for a walk as many routes are here, so plenty of shade or protection from the elements when needed. Sort of hidden away from main roads. Well maintained and highly recommended.

Relaxing nature at its best. Have a picnic, take a hike. Use the shelter ( with reservation) for a gathering. Summer, winter , spring and fall ......you will find the hand of the Lord

We went to see the CSN tribute band a few weeks ago. The band was good but the venue wasn’t set up for the crowd they had. Very nice setting, beautiful park with nice walking trails and nature center.

We frequent Big Creek Park on the weekends as it's a great place to go for a dog walk and enough trails and elevation changes to provide a good 'workout' for the humans too. The park is usually not crowded, so the only distractions are nature. One thing to keep in mind if you are bringing a dog (or two), they do not have the 'bags' that you normally find at other parks or dog parks, so we always bring some from home as if though it's nature taking it's course, it's nice to keep things clean for the next group.

We have a family reunion held here every August at a pavilion. It’s a nice park. The kids enjoy the playground and hiking in the woods.

Big Creek Park is one of the largest in the Geauga Park District. It covers around a square mile of forest only a mile or so from the center of Chardon. Whether you are here for a picnic, a family outing, a hike, horseback trails, or just some tranquil time in the woods, you will find it here.
This park is very large, so you might want to hop on the Park District's web site ahead of time to get a sense of what you'd want to see. There are trails all over, ranging from gentle to rolling hills. In the spring there are wildflowers all over.
One other review on this site downgraded it because of its quietness and solitude. I viewed this as a plus, not a negative, and you should, too. Whether alone, with a friend or two, or with a group, this is a picturesque setting with lots to explore.

I found this park to be too deserted for my liking. I was slightly scared when we pull up to the parking lot and the only other car is someone just sitting in their car. I would like to see more patrolling or something to feel safe. Wasn't Impressed.

Big Creek Park is a wonderful place to go to explore the outdoors. We've been going here for many years and it has only improved over the years. It has a variety of hiking trails from easy to more difficult. The improvements they've made over the years has made it easier since they've added steps and improved the drainage along many of the trails.
The main entrance is the Donald W. Meyer Center which provides visitors with information about the park. There is also a picnic area at Woodin Road Park and a horse trail at on Woodin Road. So it has a wide range of trails for all sorts of visitors.
In Spring there are areas filled with wild flowers, particularly trilliums which is really something to see. The woods are filled with all sorts of wildlife and you never know what you'll see. It's a great place to escape the noise of the city and get back to nature!

Whether you want to take a short hike, or a longer one, this is a nice park in which to do it. You should also know that the Buckeye Trail goes through this area, and there are four primitive campsites for hikers, or those wishing to enjoy the outdoors. (These need to be reserved -- contact the park for more information.) We had an enjoyable 4-1/2 mile snowless winter hike there today -- this would be a super park for snowshoeing, but, alas, there was no snow for us!
