If you are a westerner and want to know what it feels like to be a celebrity then here's your chance. This is just up the road from Balancing Rock so it's worth doing both sights together. There are a few stairs up the hill to get the heart rate going and then at the top you see the impressive fort built on top of a giant boulder.
It's at the top we noticed some of the locals glancing at us and we just smiled back and thought nothing of it. Then they would sheepishly come up to us and ask if they could take selfies with us. We laughed and said "of course" and then there was a mini-queue of polite locals who wanted a selfie. All very nice and had us feeling important.
The fort itself is an impressive structure and you can climb up a few stairs to the balcony where you get a nice view of the surrounding countryside. We climbed back down and went to the far side where there is a step well and other structures and a few more selfies with the locals. All good fun!

The heat was killing and it is a climb of 205 stairs. But the whole look of the fort was just too good. Not one soul was there due to the heat , and we had the place to ourselves.

Very close to the balancing rock. The fort is in ruins yet charming . The view from the fort is amazing.

Madan mahal fourt is very old place in Jabalpur. You can watch the lovely whole city of Jabalpur at this place.

The fort of Madan Mahal is situated on the mountain which is built on top of a stone. This fort feels very amazing to see and feel the nature. This fort can be visited with the whole family friend, you do not have to pay any charge to visit it for free of cost for whom anyone can see.

Situated close to the Balancing Rock is the Rani Durgavati Fort atop a small hill . The climb of approx 200 steps is pretty steep but well worth the effort. Halfway up there is a Shiva mandir and a little way up a mosque as well . A very quiet place . The two storeyed 11 cent fort is pretty much in ruins but is still very charming. Lovely views of the surrounding land can be had from the hill top. One needs to be careful about the monkeys though. There are no entry fees.

Almost nothing is left. It was more of a sentry outpost than a fort. But the view of Jabbalpur town from the top is very good. But prepare yourself for a steep climb.

Close to the Balancing Rock of Jabalpur is the famous fort of Rani Durgavati. We visited the fort post our visit to the Balancing Rock.
Also known as the Madan Mahal Fort, due to the area where it is located, it is atop a hill and accessed by a long flight of steps. It is a small fort built by the Rajgond rulers of Jabalpur, and seems to only be a manned post built to keep vigil on invaders.
The fort dates back to the 11th century. Though not exactly an architectural marvel, the little fort has an aura around it. Small but compact and fully equipped for martial encounters the fort has remnants of stables, a small reservoir and other rooms.
Much needs to be done for the maintenance of the Fort, though there were plenty of material lying around indicating that the Archaeological Survey of India is interested in it to an extent.
The fort provides for superb views of the city of Jabalpur and one can access the top of the fort via a flight of stairs carved into the rock.

It's isolated!! that's the first feel of the place when you reach up to the fort after around 20 minutes of climb. But then the beauty and the unusual architecture of the fort takes your breath away. Definitely 'one-of-a-kind' and photography worthy. Although the locals do not encourage, an ideal quiet place for a picnic. The views from the top of the fort are exhilarating.

This is 10 minutes away from Madan mahal railway station.
Around 30 minutes climb to reach here.
It's near balancing rock.
