On a bitterly cold but sunny afternoon we were in for a treat. Nice clean loos by car park, super shop and cafe, easy to find hides, good gravel pathways and a sunset coloured sky beyond the sand dunes, wonderful. Lots of unusual sightings for me, being new to bird watching, but amongst many we saw spotted Redshank, Little Egret, Teal, Shovelers, Black Tailed Godwit, Mallards, Kingfisher, Oyster Catchers and a Starling murmeration plus a Monkjac deer. Highly recommend a visit.

Not impressed by the "Welcome Hub". Having bought our tickets we were syphoned off to an (albeit pleasant) hard sell chap who must have spent some 10 minutes attempting to enrol us into a year's subscription to RSPB despite our continued (too?) polite refusals.
Once allowed through, I'm not sure what happened but, basically, we saw about a dozen rather ordinary birds, total, in our 2 or 3 hours of walking the designated routes, whereas we had been expecting some form of an "Attenborough" experience!
Maybe they'd all migrated? Whatever the reason for the virtually empty areas, we should have been warned before spending our time and money.
Nevertheless, the walks were inevitably attractive and enjoyed - but we could have done that wherever along this beautiful coast.

Hello Surreyman1,
Thank you for leaving your review and I'm pleased to read that you enjoyed the scenery and walk of the reserve, although I'm sorry to read that our Fundraising Team tarnished your experience.
I can see from our Sightings Board of that day that we had 29 species that were special enough to make our Highlights (by that, we mean birds that are unique to wetland, reedbed or coastal habitat). This included unusually large flocks of 18 Red-breasted Mergansers, 16 Snipe, 40+ Ruff and 22 Cattle Egret.
Our sister reserve at Snettisham is famous for it's wildlife spectacles with flocks tens of thousands wading birds. Perhaps this was what you expected to see? These events are rare and a visit to see them should be planned. If you'd like to witness one of these, the next ones will commence from February 12th 2024 at 6.15am.
Please let us know if there is anything specific that you would like to see on our reserves by contacting us at titchwell@rspb.org.uk.
Warmest regards,
Lucy.

This is an excellent reserve. One of the hides is closed temporarily for refurbishment. There is a good range of waders and waterfowl. Get there early to avoid the crowds and dog walkers. The shore is well worth a visit for Gannets, sea duck and waders.

A must visit.
There are plenty of car parking spaces. Visitors are initially welcomed and encouraged to join the RSPB if not already members - free entry for members.
There is an excellent cafe with inside and outside seating. The staff are very friendly and good is delicious and freshly prepared.
Three RSPB shop is worth a visit too and there are toilets near the car park.
Check out the various paths and hides - staff offer help and advice. The paths are well maintained and in trees at times, offering shade on a hot day.
The hides are amazing and one could stay for hours. It's worth visiting them all because they each offer something different. Take a photo of the site map as below (no leaflets) and binoculars or telescope if you have them and enjoy.

Great reserve with plenty of birds to watch, even if the bearded tits eluded me! The beach is incredible.
Staff are fantastic, very knowledgeable, friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The hot sausage roll was delicious.
Well worth a visit.

We have loved visiting titchwell for many years but this was our first trip back for a while. The entrance team were friendly and the price of £5 per adult doesn’t seem too bad considering it’s for the whole day.
Facilities were all very well maintained and, as ever, the reserve itself offers beautiful views, a tranquil beach and plenty of bird life.
We ate in the cafe and the food was all good quality with pleasant and quick service.

This is a lovely place too visit but was shocked that at the admission price of £5 per adult after we were greeted by a man in the reception who was more like a salesman ,asking if we would like too set up a direct debit too join the R.S.P.B ,when we said no ,he said "well in that case it will be £5.00 each ,I'm quite happy taking money off you if you don't want too sign up ",we left feeling a but shocked as you don't usually get this kind of thing at a nature reserve ,anyway apart from this it is a very nice place too visit

We visited whilst staying in the area and were blown away by the scenery and range of birds & wildlife on offer. We had a small dog with us so did the ‘west’ way walk which took us all the way down the the large vast unspoilt beach. The tide was out - breathtaking.
The walk it’self was around a mile each way, we treated ourselves to a cup of tea and cake at the cafe on the way back.
What a special place this is - well worth a visit.
Tip: wear good footwear. Binoculars available to rent for £3 from the RSPB shop.

Hello Sara,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review for us. There's some great tips in there for other visitors and it's a fantastic boost for the team to read about the impact it has on our visitors. We love Titchwell and so glad to see that you do too!
Best regards,

Visitor centre staff friendly and helpful. I took a guided walk with one of the regular volunteers (cost £9 but well with the knowledge acquired). I spent an excellent 2 hours with Mike who shared his extensive knowledge about the site and it’s feathered visitors. Afternoon I spent on my own exploring the various habitats on the site. A tally of 60 different birds for me.
Cafe on site. Toilets and car park.

Lovely day at RSPB Titchwell today. It had been many years since we last visited and we throughly enjoyed the day. There are lots of seats so you can sit and take in the views. Great hides, large easy opening windows and a grand array of bird life. Would definitely recommend a visit if you find yourself in the area.

I’m a life member of the RSPB! But I must asked this question to the RSPB at Titchwell on behalf of Non-Members. The footpath at Titchwell Marsh at the entrance is a public footpath. Just as the case is at Bempton Cliffs. And no non-member need have to pay an admission charge to go on to a public footpath, which is why dogs on leads are allowed. The National Trust years ago did a similar thing at the Giants Caiseway which didn’t say that anyone could down to the Giants Causeway free of charge and legal action was going to be taken againsf the National Trust in Northern Ireland because of this. The National Trust knew they could well lose that legal case. Now if any non-member of the RSPB took similar action against either Bempton Cliffs or Titchwell Marsh! Legally the RSPB wouldn’t have a case unless that was mentioned on the entrance sign to both of those RSPB reserves that any non-members didn’t have to pay to go on either public footpaths. So my question to the management at Titchwell Marsh. Does the entrance sign to Titchwell Marsh mention that any non-member of the RSPB doesn't have to pay any admission charge to Titchwell Marsh because of the public footpath. If nothing is mentioned about that. Legally the RSPB would have difficulty winning any action by anyone over that situation as the National Trust had to accept that involving the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland!
Hello Ian,
It's Lucy from the Titchwell Visitor Operations team here. Thanks for your thoughts on the admission charge and for your Life Membership to the RSPB.
You're quite correct that there is a public footpath on a part of the reserve. The charge to non-members is for admission to the whole reserve and use of our facilities, including the car park, permissive paths, toilets, hides and of course the maintenance of the land itself for conservation purposes. This is a legal and standard method of supporting the work that we do. RSPB Members already support our work on reserves, which is why reserve entry is included in the price of membership.
Of course, if a visitor was NOT to use any of our facilities and only the public footpath, then there is no cost to either the visitor or us. Our entry and welcome signage is designed for visitors to our reserve and facilities only. We have found that non-members are very happy to support the work we do in the context of the nature and climate emergency, and are very grateful to use our car park and toilets at the very least.
I hope that answers your question, but if you do have anything more specific, please do feel free to contact us.
Very best regards,
Lucy.

Would the path be pushchair accessible the whole way around? Don't mind if it's a little bumpy.

Hi, could anyone please tell me if I can bring my little dog along with me on a trip anytime of the year?

Your dog will be welcome on the footpath which forms the “backbone” of the reserve, as long as it is kept on a lead under close control. You’ll get good views of the lagoons and birds, and the footpath leads straight onto the beach, where s/he could be let off lead. You won’t be able to go into the hides or go off on side paths, but the main path gives you excellent views of the bulk of the reserve. Enjoy!
