The windmill is only open a few times a year and has undergone a total refurbishment.
However it is on a narrow single lane with very limited parking so best to park in Mayfield or Rotherfield and enjoy the walk to Argos Hill

You could actually know the local area, or even work locally and miss this lovely example of a Sussex post mill (and one of only about 50 post mill examples left in the whole of the UK.)
Although it is on the top of its own hill - with wonderful views from inside of the surrounding countryside, in contrast to when it stopped working in the 1930s when hay fields surrounded it, now there are trees enclosing it a bit - which is why it is easy to miss. Seek it out though, on one of the open days, it is well worth a short visit.
A visit is also a chance to admire the tireless volunteer work of the supporters of the mill, many of whom I understand were in their 70s, when they saved it from the threat of removal and storage by the local council because of the previous condition it has gotten into. The mill was featured on BBC1's "Restoring England's Heritage" TV programme, and if I remember correctly it was only removed from English Heritage's "Buildings At Risk" register in 2017.
Now it looks wonderful, but there is still more restoration work planned. A tour includes time with the extremely knowledgeable volunteer hearing about all aspects of working a mill, and the cost is donations as you feel appropriate.
PLEASE CHECK THE WEBSITE FIRST FOR OPEN DAYS BEFORE YOU VISIT. The mill is only open to the public on usually a couple of days every month.
