‪Absolutely brilliant nights entertainment. Been to see “Waiting for God”, at the Plowright theatre. By the HOSPITAL PLAYERS .
Very funny with a lot of humour, but very professional too ! Excellent music and scene changes. If you have a few hours to spare, then this is for you !‬

‪The Adult Cinderella
There was no need for the use of speakers , they were too loud and made it difficult to catch what was being said. The Plowright theatre is very small. It would be easy to hear the show better without amplification‬

‪The prompter was excellent. One could hear every word she said in the auditorium. That almost says it all. The cast were lifeless, wooden and seemed convinced that they were not doing well. £3 for a 130ml tub of ice-cream is a national disgrace.
Get your act together and come up with the goods. No wonder the auditorium was only a quarter full.
So what was the best value that night? Simple.... The free parking after 6pm in car park opposite.‬

‪Nice intimate Theatre, not too big or small. Kroneberg £4.80 a pint & a half not half price. Would go again, we travelled 35 miles but free parking after 6pm just across the road. Easy access off M180 / M181.‬

‪We went for the show My Fair Lady & it was fantastic!! We were sat on the second row which unfortunately meant we did have our view partially blocked at times by the conductor but overall the seats & view were great. The show was great, the cast were all brilliant, especially Henry Higgins who was outstanding & Elizas Dad who played a fantastic part & had the best character for the part! Would highly reccomend the theatre as the venue is great, small enough to get a good view from everywhere & also small enough to create a lovely atmosphere. Loved it!‬

‪It is hard to believe that the Joan Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, had its 70th birthday celebration last year. It looks modern and fresh. And this was the first time my wife and I had been there.
There is very easy access into the theatre for disabled people and just near the main door is a lift up to the bar.
We had gone to see a friend of ours who was appearing in a rather implausible play, which kept the audience continuously laughing.
The theatre began its life as the Civic Theatre, but then, in the 1990s the name of it was changed to celebrate the life and successful acting career of Dame Joan on stage and on the screen for six decades before her retirement. Her marriage to Sir Laurence Olivier was between 1961 and 1989. She is now the President of the Theatre Club, and still lives in the nearby village of Brigg.
It is obvious that there is a professional management team as,well as dedicated volunteers , because the building and everything within it is of an extremely high standard and very clean and welcoming.
The access for wheelchairs and other disabled people couldn’t be better. There are gentle sloping down wide aisles for the audience , comfortable maroon seating and an impressive proscenium stage. One can see from every angle. There is stage lighting to suit every director’ s taste.
Ice creams are on sale at the interval, but, as usual with amateur productions, these are overpriced. I went up to the bar where there is a small range of beers available. However, I did not stay there long because the ambiance of it was more like a school-dinner or examination room. It had square tables with severe-looking stacking chairs around them. There has been little attempt there to make it more comfortable.
The Star Café bar is also open between 11:30 AM and 2 PM for lunch and drinks on weekdays , serving a variety of hot and cold dishes, as well as tea and coffee. There is also a pre-show dining menu available from 6:30 PM on the nights of performance. They also have a scheme, whereby one gets a scratchcard so that you can possibly win some theatre tickets or another hot drink!
There is some vehicle parking round the rear of the building for disabled drivers. Other parking is free after 6 PM in the area.
The theatre produces an extremely attractive booklet of forthcoming productions every quarter (Box Office (0844) 854 2776). This advertises shows which are also on at the Bath Hall.
Shows range from classic ballet from the St Peterburgh company from Russia to sexy dramas, amateur drama, wrestling, pantomime, rock- shows, comedy and many on-tour musicals.‬

‪We recently visited the Plowright Theatre to see Totally Tina and has a great evening!
We had a drink in the small cafe bar before the show - get here early if you want a seat!
The auditorium was comfortably warm and the seats were comfortable. Staff escort you to your seat which is a nice touch.
The show was fantastic and the sound superb!‬

‪Amateur shows here are widely under rated. The efforts put in by the performers it is such a shame more people do not attend. Get out the pubs abandon the TV and go and see these local amateur shows you will not be disappointed‬
