Lots of information about the history here, pretty walk but it was a little over grown. Thunderbolts cave was a short drive down the road.

This is just along the road from Thunderbolt's Hideout, and worth doing in the same trip. A good history lesson about how this area would've been defended.

Had no idea this sort of thing was done in Australia. Worthwhile visiting to see what was happening in World War 2 in Australia. The thought of tanks making their way down the country here is mind boggling.

What an opportunity to stand in this spot, read the little brochure from the visitors centre and feel the weight of what this little spot was designed to achieve.

Interesting and scary thought, that if the Japanese made it past our troops in PNG and got to Australia, then our Govt decided to fall back to the Brisbane line. I happen to live on the northern side - oh dear. Interesting piece of modern Australian history.

Took a little to find the World War 2 Tank Traps - we only found remnants of concrete, but they must have been interesting in their heyday.

This is just down the road from Thunderbolts Hideout and is right beside the road so no bush walk. Really interesting.

After a visit to Thunderbolt's Hideout we followed the signs to the WW2 Tank Traps only the path was not easy to navigate with many trees and branches over the rough path. Because the path was not pleasant we turned around and missed out on the opportunity. Once in the car again and driving towards Bald Rock National Park we saw another sign pointing to another entrance to the Tank Traps, maybe this is the prefered path. I suggest you ask at the Tourist Information office in Tenterfield for their advice.

If you park at the Hideaway it says there is a 1.2km walk to get to the Traps. Unless you really want to burn off some calories after having lunch at one of the fabulous eateries in Tenterfield don’t walk. Hop back in your car and 1km down the road you will come across the sign and traps.
I would have liked to have more knowledge in regards to the traps. Why choose this place out of all of the places they could have crossed the border.
