Simply a fantastic four days for experienced hikers and newbies alike. The track is superbly constructed and maintained, and takes you through bushland, along clifftops, over a mountain and finishes on a beach.
You need a reasonable level of fitness to complete, but nothing extreme. Not having to carry your own stove or tent helps too!
The huts are very comfortable and kitchen/communal areas have everything you need. We loved the welcome each evening by the (very passionate!) rangers who talked through the history, local ecosystems, and what we could expect on the next days walking.

If you have ever wanted to do a multi-day walk but were scared of whether you could cope, this is the perfect place to start.
Amazing scenery - different types of forest, coastal cliffs, native flora, boat ride to the drop off point.
Amazing facilities - fantastic communal huts (heated and with lights), all the cooking equipment you could need, book library, great toilets and the joy of a hot shower at the end of day 2. Comfortable mattresses in the multiple sleeping huts. Complementary ear-plugs at each stop!
Great track underfoot - whilst I wouldn't recommend it with a pack on your back, you could walk the track in sandshoes it is that well prepared. Lots of duckboard and hard compacted trail. Stone stairs like I have never seen before on other tracks in Tasmania.
Passionate Rangers - each hut has a resident Tasmania Parks Ranger. Very knowledgeable, very helpful and all were obviously passionate about what they do. Great briefing at 5:30pm each day.
Well though out track - Day 1 = short and Day 3 most of the ~19km only requires a day-pack. Lots of wonderful and scenic resting spots for the climbs on Days 2 and 4.
The track apparently took 5 years to plan and 5 years to build. It shows in the quality of the finished product.

Breathtaking scenery a wonderful reward for undertaking the challenge.
Comfortable accomodation huts throughout the stay, equiped kitchens & communal spaces.
The track is well marked track and runs through spectacular scenery across a multi day journey.
Story seats along the way offer a place to take a load off and a chance to learn more about the areas flora, fauna or history.
Free time exploring Port Arthur historical sight a great bonus!

This is a remarkable walk. Rainforest and scrub meet some of the highest cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere as they drop into the ocean. The track is well maintained. There are cliff edges but if you stay in the track you are always safe. As a nature experience this is hard to top. It can be done as a multi day tent or hut stay or as a series of day trips from Port Arthur.

A magnificent trek, through some diverse ‘micro climates’ and ecosystems. Spectacular views, very well maintained track. Some climbs/ascents that keep you puffing for a bit but very achievable for someone in reasonable shape. The huts, art along the trip and supporting guidebook and rangers at each lodge all come together to make for a wonderful trek. Well done #parkstasmania

Modern day feel good multi-day trek offering luxurious sustainable hiking amenities.
This is an easily arranged self guided trek. I did this solo, engaging in conversation with new found friends after soaking up the awesome natural wonders of the day.
The rangers meet hikers each afternoon, sincerely respecting country and are passionate about nature.
Highly recommended for those progressing from day trips into multi-day hikes. The pack is lighter, forgoing housing, cooking tools & water.

We walked the Three Capes in January 2022 with a tour arranged and guided by Park Trek, It was fantastic. The guides were great, the accommodation really comfortable with great views and the food was satisfying. The tour included a three hour boat trip around Tasman Island from Port Arthur, which was a highlight. The hiking is not too onerous (and I am not an experienced hiker) but still challenging enough for the experienced hiker. The guides are very aware of all participants' abilities and ensured that everyone was looked after.

We both loved our 3 Capes Track experience in October 2021 to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Due to Covid, numbers for each booking were restricted so it meant every group had their own dormitory. Everything about this experience is excellent from the track itself, to the comfortable eco-friendly lodges, the informative guide booklet, the highly knowledgeable rangers/hosts at each lodge, the boat trip to the track beginning and the staff at check in/luggage drop.
We made fantastic new friends and can’t wait to do more overnight hiking in beautiful Tassie.

An amazing 4 day, 3 night hike. The track is great, often boardwalks or stone steps. The huts are very comfortable, 8 bunks in a room, large communal kitchen and living area with heaters, usb chargers, gas cooking with books and board games available.
Large decks to take in the stunning scenery and to mix with your fellow hikers. You only have to carry 13kg but there are a lot of steps so train for that. The scenery is so worth it.

What time do the bookings open today 28/11, for November 2023 to the end of February 2024 ? We are sitting on our computer in Adelaide and all the walks are "fully booked".

They say they are opening the bookings tomorrow for the next months. What time do they actually do it? do I have to be sitting there at 9am sharp EST? Thanks, Caroline

Hi, I'm booked in to go this Saturday (very excited!) and want to take some fresh fruit&veg (apples, carrot, cucumber) but arrive in Hobart (airport) in the morning and am booked on the Grayline bus to get me to Port Arthur on time for the 2pm ferry. Any tips on where we can pick up our fresh goodies? Can't bring them into Tassie from Vic and don't think we'll have time to leave the airport before the bus picks us up.
Thanks!

Sorr, we arrived at 7am and got on the 8.30am bus direct to Port Arthur for the 11am ferry. So did not take fresh fruit. Trail mix worked well for us from three capes gourmet. Enjoy the walk!

Hi all,
Been reading about this track and planning to go by Mid of March next year.
The website mentions about providing cooking facilities but wanted to know if drinking water is available at the huts or not ? Do I need to carry water for all the 3 days ?

Hello, yes all huts have facilities to top up with fresh drinking water. No need to carry for multiple days. Enjoy!

Hi All, has anyone completed this walk over the Christmas period when the numbers were at 48 hikers?
It looks like a beautiful walk but not sure it’s worth the price when sharing with so many people and not having the option of sleeping in a tent.
Is this walk best suited for people looking for a glamping experience rather than a remote quiet hike?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Emma,
I think the other answers have given a good review of the walk. We found the huts were excellent, each bed was pre-assigned, and so no crowding or jockeying for the best bunks. The kitchens were very well set up and good to use. Also there is a lot of private space at each hut and along the route (48Kms can be a long way between other parties).
The helicopters were necessary to do their work, but also they were employed by the truly 'glamping' group that have their own guide and huts and walk with day packs. We met up with them occasionally and had a good chat, but generally they were not to be seen as they were carrying lighter packs.
So, all-in-all, it is a great walk and one that enables you to enjoy it to the full without having to set up tents or a campfire (banned anyway due to fire restrictions). The rangers at each hut were excellent and added so much to the walk too.
Go for it!
Be prepared for any weather too even in Christmas period.

Has anyone done the three capes track with starting boat trip and the full Tasman island 3hr boat trip?
Is it worth doing both or do you see a good amount with the three capes included boat trip?

I’ve done the 3 capes but I would still like to do the 3 hour boat trip because you get a different perspective from both. It’s so beautiful you can’t get enough anyway.

I did the Three Capes Trek with my 3 children aged (9, 13, 15) in Dec last year and loved the experience. Can any families who have gone on to do other self guided, multi day walks in Australia/ New Zealand please recommend them. I would prefer cabin / hut accommodation like three Capes if possible. Thanks!
Hi
Can also recommend Humpridge track from Tuatapere and Kepler track from Te Anau in New Zealand.

Hi we need some help with the selection of sleeping bags for the trek. We are 2 families with 6 kids age aged 9-14 and have booked to do the 3 capes track at the end of September this year . We want to make sure we are not cold at night but don’t want to pay the huge dollars for the lightweight small lower limit temp sleeping bags of -5 degrees. Would love to get feedback from those who have done the trek. Is a down bag that has -1 as it’s lower limit comfort level sufficient ? Thanks

You are in for a treat! I had a minus bag when I did the walk in April and was fine. I also hired my bag from three capes gear and gourmet

If you go to the web site it tells you everything you need to know
But it’s 3nights 4 days , only 48 people are allowed to leave each day. $495 for the walk
You carry everything you need. Water is available at the huts
