We took the chairlift and did the circuit walk. The advice (good) was to walk clockwise. Great views out to sea, through a wooded area where we saw wallabies. The walk is quite easy and was very enjoyable.

We baulked at the climb and took the chairlift up. Reached the top and decided that we would walk the circuit. Headed to the left into a gale force wind, luckily both of us well insulated against wind and the bitter cold. Walkways are well maintained and comfortable for walking. We made it to Stanley Trig Point and had a breather, then onto Fisherman's Wharf Lookout. Fabulous views, had to grip the iPad in both hands, the wind was so strong. Continued on round, wind on our left sides and then a slope down to the shelter of the valley and the temperate forest. It was like another world, no wind, quiet, mature trees, ferns, picnic areas and then we arrived at Tatlows Beach Lookout. Great views over Stanley and then to Highfield Lookout, the cairn with small plaque showing distances to various locations. Then the gradual incline to the chairlift and, I'll admit that it was a welcome sight but we had managed to complete the circuit unassisted.

I was working on my fitness so decided to walk up to the top of the Nut. It is pretty steep in parts but it is paved and there are handrails. So not too arduous. Took about 15 mins for the ascent and after that the walk is a breeze. The summit is akin to a plateau and the track is mostly on the level with some steps here and there. It's paved the entire way. The track is punctuated by several lookouts giving sublime views in all directions - over the town, the port, the beach and into the far distance. The variation in vegetation at the top is also interesting, with thick bush in the more shelters sections. Pademelons were out and about here when I walked. Didn't see any shearwaters but the multitude of burrows indicated their high level of activity.
Also, the shop at the base of The Nut is excellent - good ice cream and lots of well-priced souvenirs.

Got the chairlift up, but due to it closing at 4:15 couldn’t get a the easy way down, not really an issue just meant we had to walk down….even though the day was overcast and windy still worth the trip, really majestic, and views were stunning, even got to see quite a few of the local pademelon ….. only thing that spoilt the day was the lady at the top of the chairlift, not sure if she had too many sour worms (Confectionary) but she had the personality of a stunned mullet!!!

The views from the top are excellent and worth the visit. The walk is a tough one and even though I consider myself fir (sort of) it was a hard slog, but I would not do it any other way. The trail around the top of the nut is very informative and I could see that it would be fun for kids too.
I did see the prices of the chair lift and thought they were steeper than the climb to get up there.

Although the views were outstanding, our experience was ruined by the very nasty lady at the top. I am a respectful nearly 70 year old and as we got of the chair I asked which way to the nearest observation platform, her response was there there are several and get off the deck, I asked again and was told get of the deck, my third attempt was away from the deck but she had gone back into her office. On our return I ignored her and sat in the chair with my wife this is when she slammed the safety bar onto my shoulder leaving a significant bruise. She should not be working in the tourist industry, beware of this awful woman .

A visit to the Nut is a must do whilst visiting Stanley as you certainly can't miss it.
We walked up which was no easy feat for us older people but we made it. The views of surrounding area was spectacular from the top and the easy walk around was enjoyable.
We decided to take the easy way down and ride the chair lift which was fine.

We caught the chairlift up and down. Walked around the top of the Nut to see some spectacular views. The only downside were the number of flies - masks do come in useful! :)

This is a must do when in Stanley. Terrific views and an easy walk provided you go anti-clockwise, otherwise you have to walk up a lot of steps.

Do they have little doggy sitters at many N.Parks...makes it hard to do nature walks if not..

Wasn't made aware of any dog sitters and since there are bird breeding areas around the nut, unlikely they would even encourage them. Most National parks in Australia are very negative to domesticated animals as they do pose various risks.

Hi, may I know if I can only reach the Chairlift ride at 4 pm, would it be too rush for me to finish the ride and stroll at the summit as they close between 4.30 to 530 pm? I will be travelling in December.

Hi Gummycat. The chairlift was not operational when I was there. Bring water and plenty of rest stops as you walk up.
Guys, how long does the walk up The Nut take from the nearest carpark? Round trip? Thanksa

The walk takes about 10-15 mins to top of the nut depending on how many stops required to take a breath or take great photos and of course much quicker to come back down. Once at the top it is just a leisurely walk around the nut to observe the views, wildlife etc. This could be done in an hour or longer. It reallay does depend on fitness and long you want to study things. It is well worth the effort. Hope this helps.

Are pets on a lead allowed to go for a walk with visitors?

I think you have the answer ! My understanding is that no pets would be allowed.
Is it dog friendly?
Wakkatoo
Creswick, أستراليا75 مساهمة
No dogs aren't allowed. It's a "sensitive" bird breeding area, as well as lots of other native wildlife.
