‪A rare bog, a rattlin’ bog indeed! For much of my adult life I wanted to see and experience a bog. There really aren’t many in the area. This was a great experience and a wonderful walk through natures beautiful soggy side. I’m not a huge botany fanatic but there are many plants here you just don’t see elsewhere, even in the area. We visited on a sunny fall day and there were great photo opportunities and vultures in the sky against the sun. The trot down to the peat bog is easy and fun as there is a nice boardwalk which makes the terrain manageable . As we got to the observation deck area you could hear the water bubbling up from beneath the peat! The loop around the Kame was on rougher terrain but was fun, as there was a geocache on the way. What a great place to visit! ‬

‪First off, I wouldn't recommend a summer visit without being prepared (insect repellent galore & hat...yes...you get attracted). Otherwise, this place is amazing! There is a board walk to the bog - the bog isn't so amazing - it's the cinnamon ferns, mayapples, blueberry bushes, pitcher plants, sundew and other cool plants and oh yea...sphagnum moss that is around the bog. Plus the birds, wildlife and animals tracks. Don't miss going off on the half mile trail loop up through the woods - a short little hike, well worth it to see some great old oak trees & more flora & fauna. Vernal pools - love them too!‬

‪My wife and I travel to Amish country often and are always looking for side trips. Sadly, the bog will no longer be on our list. Previous reviewers said nice things with some nice pictures. I will preface by saying we went in late July, and maybe other times of the year are different. Almost immediately upon entering you step up on a boardwalk because, well its a bog. What we did not expect were the fog of insects (mainly mosquitoes). But foraging on, we made it to the observation deck, only to be greeted by weeds so high you could see nothing. So unless you are studying ecosystems or mosquitoes, I can't understand why anyone would choose this short hike.‬

‪This is a very well regarded area for those interested in nature. If I am not mistaken this is a bog that demonstrates a very unique ecological system and for those studying ecology, wetlands are critical in our ecosystem.
A hidden gem that even the locals are not as aware as you might think.
Just PLEASE respect the fragility of this bog and do nothing to harm it.
You might be interested to see the harvesting of peat in a nearby area.‬
