Very friendly and informative staff. We were put on the water quickly and given helpful information about the river and how to navigate down stream! The stopping point is close to where we parked so we were able to get to our car with no wait time. Overall great experience! Highly recommend this company!

While visiting Broken Bow, Ok., our family decided to go on a kayak trip together. Granted, this was our first time doing this, but what we ended up experiencing during the trip was nothing close to what we expected. It was torture, not because of paddling, but because of the extremely low water level and large rocks. You could see the bottom of the river in lots of areas and the deeper parts were full of boulders. Although we were provided with life jackets for the trip, I believe that helmets should also have been provided for our safety. In the places with rushing water, if the kayak tipped over or when it was necessary to get out of the boat, you could certainly bash your head on a bolder. We were given instructions as to the direction to go but no map and no guide were provided. When our kayaks got hung up on boulders, you had to rock yourself off or try to get out to push the kayak off of the rock. There was no way to go to the bank and walk the kayak out of the rock places as there were large trees lining the river. The huge rocks in the stream were uneven, mossy and very slick. Each time we were forced to try and stand or walk on the boulders, our feet would slip off causing one member of our family to get her ankle stuck between a bolder and the kayak causing a severe sprain. At this point, because we had no phones with us, we were forced to continue the trip instead of calling someone for assistance due to our injury. The ankle was not broken but is still bruised and swollen days after the trip. Our granddaughter also had an injury, but again, because of no phone or first aid kit, we were not able to reach out to anyone for help. Because of the low water, I'm guessing that we had to get out and push off of rocks 20 or more times. Two kayaks with family got separated at one of the forks in the river and we didn’t see them again until we got to the end. Although, we will have numerous stories to tell our friends about our kayaking adventure, it wasn’t the adventure that we were hoping for, as it was very dangerous.

We've used Tippa Canoe the last 3 years we've come to Broken Bow for our annual "big family" weekend trip. Always a pleasure to rent from the owners. Super nice people, great prices and nice equipment. We just show up - they bus us to our location, put our kayaks in the water and then take them out for us when we get to the end. Looking forward to next year!

My personal experience was horrible, because this is not my type of adventure - that is no fault of the company. They were super nice and the price was good! I’ve never kayaked before, and we were given 1-2 min of instructions before being put on the lake in our tandem kayaks. I would advise you to NOT go on this trip if you expect a peaceful float (which is what I expected). You WILL get wet, you WILL take in water, you WILL crash into other kayaks and rocks, you WILL get stuck, and there is a 60% chance that you’ll flip over in the rapids. A good portion of the trip is shallow rapids with a ton of big rocks. But if you are down for all of these things, then this is the trip for you! It took about 2.5 hours to finish. I would advise wearing a pair of water shoes, to help navigate the lake when you have to get out to get yourself unstuck.

The staff was very friendly, the rental prices were great. Our plan was to rent a canoe with our 6yr old sitting in the middle. I was advised it would be best to do a double kayak. I am glad I took the advice, bc there are a lot of shallow areas and rocks. The only complaint would be was that we arrived 30mins early for a noon float time, but we did not leave til after 12:30. It wouldn't be too bad, but you are waiting outside in the heat to leave. They take u up the river and you can float, paddle down the river on your own time. You just got to make sure not to miss your stop. We finished in about 2.5hrs, docked the kayaks and was able to walk back to our car. So not waiting to be shuttled back to your car was a plus. Overall, I would rent from them again.

We have kayaked down the river several times but this was the best company we have found. You can’t beat their kayak prices and they have wonderful customer service. The kayak ending place lands you right where you parked your car so it’s much more convenient for you to leave at the end so you don’t have to wait for the shuttle.

We enjoyed our trip with Tippa Canoe. They loaded us quickly and got us on the water. We had a large group and rented single kayaks, tandem kayaks, and canoes. The kayaks were great! The canoes didn't work well for this trip. Even with experienced people, the canoes sunk in the rapids while the kayaks made it okay. The canoes sat very low in the water and kept taking on water until they finally sunk. There are also a lot of rocks to negotiate in the beginning. It's easier in kayaks. This trip has some rapids and a small waterfall to make it exciting and then some nice smooth water where you can jump out and swim a while. It's long enough to be fun, but short enough that it can be done in an afternoon. Our group had parents, teens, and kids as young as 8. We all said we'd go again.

These guys take great care of you from beginning to end. Great equipment and conveniently located. They got us straight to the river with no waiting time, and were prepared to help us off the river at the end of the float. With a name like Tippa Canoe why would you even go anywhere else!?? We will be back again.

We really enjoyed this trip! We rented a single and a tandem kayak. The water was cold and refreshing! Saw fish, birds, and lots of turtles sunning on logs. Stopped 3 times to relax and enjoy the water and nature. Tippa was friendly and helpful. They gave us tips on navigating the river. We were taken out to the river quickly and they were waiting when we finished. We were even told we could call for pickup if no one was already there. We will definitely use Tippa Canoe again!

Tippa Canoe was recommended to us by another outfit that was already booked for the day (we tried to get same day reservations for a group of 9). Plan and book your trip in advance.
We rented tandem kayaks for our group. The river is so shallow in some places that canoes just do not make sense. If you use canoes, you will spend a lot of time carrying them. This is a relatively simple river to navigate - novice kayakers (like us) will do just fine. You sit on top of the kayak (not the ones where your legs tuck underneath). If you tip over, just stand up - it's that shallow. Also, bring sunscreen - your legs are likely to get sunburned.
Tippa drops you off near the dam (once you check in, they drive you to the dam in a bus). They have life jackets - old, somewhat smelly, but functional. It takes about 2 hours to get to the exit (left side of the river near the first bridge), longer if you stop and swim or hang out. If you want to bring a cooler, it must be a small one and you will need bungee cords to keep it strapped to your kayak. Glass containers and Styrofoam coolers are not allowed.
There are a few other outfitters that offer longer floats. Because you actually do have to paddle most of the way, this 4 mile (2 hour) float was all that we needed. We had 4 adults, three teenagers and two 10 year olds. Everyone was pleased with the amount of time (and exercise). Other outfitters can offer an 8 mile float - we just didn't need that.
I rated 4 stars because this simple operation doesn't offer a lot of instructions or advice for the float. No safety instructions, advice, etc. They simply offer equipment and we had to ask where to get out. We waited about 5-10 minutes at the end of the trip for the bus to pick us up to return back to our cars.
As for the river, there are plenty of slow parts and a couple of rapids. Lots of rocks to get hung up on in the rapids. You'll need to use your paddle to get off the rocks. Try to avoid passing through the rapids in large groups (go single file). Once one kayak gets hung up, others can bump into it. This was usually how we saw folks flip their kayak. I would only take small children if they were good swimmers (as a precaution in case you do flip and they get caught in the current).
