Over the River and Through the Woods was a filling experience. I wanted to jump up and join the thespians on the stage at the kitchen table for some good gnocchi.
The star of the show here was the acting. It was well directed and the blocking was superb. Its hard to pinpoint one player that stood out mainly because there was bravura acting across the cast and they seemed to feed off of each other, The Trivial Pursuit scene was an absolute delight and you could almost say that the plays biggest failing was that laughter from the audience almost overwhelmed the ability to of the cast to hold deadpan and spit lines.
Technical aspects were quite good. The set decoration was lovely, lighting was good but not great but absolutely stunning when you consider the limitations and funding of a small theater. Seating was comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and the refreshment table looked enticing and tempting enough to "almost" stray from a diet. Cast enunciation and projection was near perfect and the audience could hear and understand every word without stentorian projection, yelling, or over miking. The auditorium was small and intimate.
If there was a complaint it is that the box office experience could be improved. It is hard to pre-order tickets and picking them up at will call was modestly problematic.
Also, this theater is in serious need of funding and community support. It needs a new roof and frankly could use some additional investment to address other needs. It is somewhat of a shame that Elk City can not do better. 3 performances a year for such a talented playhouse seems a shame.
I very much enjoyed this particular performance. I thought this choice of play was wonderful though too many cast to audience asides broke the third wall and left me a bit cold. Still, this is a wonderful script, a wonderful play, topped off with brilliant performances by seasoned working actors who take great delight in their craft. The staff was Oklahoma friendly and this is a delightful place for a date and a wonderful way to spend an evening.
Ticket Prices were $14 which is more than fair and I have spent more to see a movie. Honestly it almost left me in tears to know that every performance was not sold out. I cannot imagine that Elk City has many more enjoyable ways to spend an evening.
The Red Carpet Community Theater is a joy. The caliber and quality of experience and performance is far beyond what you would expect to find in a small local community theater in a small town in Western Oklahoma. You can feel that it is a treasure that deserves and needs more funding if it hopes to continue into the future. The leaders are desperate for finances to keep this place alive though their pleas for help are very low key, non aggressive or pushy, and very polite. At the very least, it is worthy of attendance in keeping of its quality of experience. It almost breaks my heart to think that a movie might have drawn more attendance.
What a fresh, and delightful experience. And the breath of fresh air that is a live play drifts well here; Even in a stuffy room without open windows or a cooling breeze. This night out at the Red Carpet Community Theater was a delight.

Perhaps it’s because I grew up in Oklahoma. Perhaps it’s because I’ve worked with the director before. Perhaps it was simply entertaining for a small community theatre production. The leads were strong and easy on the eyes. The voices were equally impressive. The dancing was simple and a few lines were dropped here and there, but I enjoyed the performance. Lastly, I must admit that this Okie had never seen the musical Oklahoma and I’m glad I did.

The play Honkeytonk Angels was the last show that my wife and I enjoyed at the Red carpet theater in Elk City Oklahoma. This community theater is a well appointed little theater that has done more and more to help the performing arts in this town there have been so very many excellent Broadway type shows that have been done with the utmost professional results. Over the many years that I have lived in the town of Elk City I have enjoyed many Broadway type shows at the Red Carpet theater. I would highly recommend if you are in the Elk City area, catch one of the shows there. D.J.Julian

We went and watched a shakespear play here. at first the building feels small but then when the performers come out you feel like you're right there in the action. Plus the theate supports youth acting programs
