‪We signed up for a table at 11:30 on a 30 degree Saturday in February when the town seemed to have a light crowd, and the wait was 60 minutes. Tip: sign up on arrival, then go shop the Mercantile and area shops. They will text you a link to a page that shows where you are in the line, and text when your table is ready. They were pretty close on the estimated wait. By the time we ate and left around 1:30, there seemed to be a few open tables, so eating off peak schedule could help too.

The food was really good. Heirloom tomato salad, beet salad, tomato soup with grilled cheese dippers, and chicken tortilla soup were all excellent. A lady near had chicken pot pie. It looked great, and she said it was. Tea and pop were only $2 when many places are charging closer to double that these days. The complimentary biscuits and jam were also very good. They need to sell jars of the tri-berry jam. We also hit the bakery and bought some items to go. The coffee drink we had was very good and reasonably priced.

Lodge tour is well worth the drive, which includes 6+ miles on a gravel road. It’s a fairly smooth road, but your car will get dirty. The drive out and the deck of the lodge offer some great views of the countryside for those not from the area. The hostess had good info on the lodge history and how shows are made there. You get free roam of the place to check out the several bedrooms, prep kitchen, pantry, etc.‬

‪We had dinner and breakfast at the mercantile. Everyone was so friendly. Special shout out to Destiny in the dinning room. She was so sweet and made sure to check back often. The bakery was well stocked but be sure to get there early since they do runout of their popular items. Thank you Ree! Your staff was excellent! We’ll be back in the spring.‬

‪We ate, shopped and then took the lodge tour. The gift shop area has fun items including unique kitchen tools as well as shirts, bags and stuffed animals. We were there when the area was decorated for Christmas. That was pretty. The bakery and coffee shop are upstairs. ‬

‪Friday, October 13, 2023. My 81 year old aunt is nuts about the Pioneer Woman and was so excited when I told her I could take her to see the Merc, eat a fabulous lunch and go see the Lodge where Ms. Drummond films her shows! We made plans with my sister and the 3 of us showed up in Pawhuska at 1:00 to eat lunch and shop. First thing bad that happened is we couldn’t hardly get in the door! The big rug was tangled up and my aunt uses a walker, and she about fell because of the rug! No one seemed concerned, no one came to help us, but we managed to get her off the rug and in line to eat. Again, she is still so excited to be there!!! After waiting in line, the young man told us the wait for lunch was 3 hours! A 3 hour wait for lunch after you’ve been open several years?? I’m sorry Ms. Drummond, but that is unacceptable for any restaurant!!! My poor aunt started crying. She says we can’t wait 3 hours to eat. She was so disappointed and so was my sis and I because we were so looking forward to it too! I don’t understand why on earth ya’ll think a 3 hour wait is acceptable and why you didn’t build the restaurant bigger when you remodeled so more people could experience the Pioneer Woman food.

After that let down we thought we’d go upstairs and see about getting some pastries to take home with us, maybe pastries could save the day! But no. It was so crowed upstairs we couldn’t get off the elevator! Finally, some people moved so we could get off and right there by the elevator was two (2) young girls trying to make fresh crepes. People were gathering to watch them causing a crowd by the elevator and making it difficult to get around (especially for my aunt with her walker!). (Maybe move the crepe station away from the elevator?!!) We managed to get around the crowd only to see a line with over 50 people in it (I counted!) waiting to buy pastries. My poor aunt said forget it, I’m done.

We didn’t get to go to the lodge either. She was just defeated and wanted to go home and honestly, so did I.

I really feel like you need to do something to cut down on the wait time. Most people don’t want to kill 3 hours at the Merc to eat. Maybe make reservations. I really don’t know but I do know this is twice I have been let down and left disappointed. I know people travel in from all over the world, I can’t imagine how upset I would be if I had spent hours or days and the costs of traveling to see the Merc and then couldn’t eat because of such a long wait. We were just really disappointed and would like Ms. Drummond to know about the problems encountered as I am sure I am not the only one who has been unhappy with the situation and hopefully someday there will be some changes so that anyone who wants to eat at the Merc will be able to.

‪the whole family was very disappointed, our waitress was great, I was so expecting to taste something great. As soon as my daughter took her first bite she said...Mom, you cook better than this. How is it that these people become famous for food that is less than our own expectations!‬

‪My friend and I visited the Mercantile on a Saturday morning in September. Neither the store nor restaurant was crowded at all. It was very nice browsing without a lot of people. Fortunately, there were a lot of affordable items to buy, but can get most at any Walmart. Bakery upstairs was cute. It needs a sign to tell you it’s upstairs. Had I not read other reviews, I wouldn’t have known. The rest of town is cute, but like most places, it’s full of boarded up stores. We decided driving 20 miles each way out to the ranch tour was not worth the drive.‬

‪This will be our last visit. Not pleased with the "new" improvements. We have been here 4 times and have always loved it. Not what we see as Pioneer Woman. So country and ranch life is now basket lights and chandeliers?‬

‪Let me start by saying that I love everything Pioneer Woman! Well, that was true until this week.

I have been visiting my sister-in-law who lives in southwestern Missouri since 2014. We have made an annual pilgrimage to Pawhuska since The Mercantile opened (except of the years of Covid, of course). We have enjoyed eating in the restaurant and purchasing merchandise and taking goodies from the bakery home for nightly treats.

We were very excited to see what had been done with the recent remodel of The Mercantile this year. I must be honest and say that I was more than a little disappointed in the changes.

While the dining experience used to personify her down home, country girl personality it now seems that the dining room should be in a big city like Kansas City. There’s no country essence to it. Large black and white flowered wallpaper, basket lights, fancy plates, glasses, and black and white cloth napkins to me are not down-home country. There is no coffee bar and no open kitchen. And the food seems to have changed as well. We were very disappointed in the Breakfast Burrito that we ordered. However, the complimentary biscuits and jam were wonderful.

The shopping is also different. There are very few Pioneer Woman items in The Mercantile. They have all been moved down the street to another store called The Pioneer Woman Collection. The items in The Mercantile, while mostly cute and pretty, really have nothing to do with the lady who made this store possible. The pricing seems to have increased as well, but what hasn’t gone up lately. They do sell tee shirts and items showing the Drummond Ranch logo and The Mercantile logo and all her books.

On the flip side, The Pioneer Woman Collection store is wonderful! It has many of her items, some that are also carried in Walmart, and some that are not. The variety of items goes from cookware to cutlery and clothes. The prices are very reasonable, especially after looking at the prices that the merchandise in The Mercantile.

The bakery no longer offers the wonderful cupcakes, of which there used to be at least 6 verities to choose from. It has switched to cookies and miniature Bundt cakes, of which there were only 2 flavors. There were about 8 different cookies to choose from. We took home 4 cookies and a pan with 4 cinnamon rolls. We used to take home 4 cupcakes and share one for the next 4 nights. Sadly, the cookies aren’t as good or as much fun to share.

Overall, it’s still a great place to visit for a first timer and somewhere every Pioneer Woman fan should put on their bucket list. I’m just not sure that we will be making the five hours round trip next year. We shall see.‬

‪My wife loves to watch Ree's TV show. She records all the episodes and even writes down some of the recipes to try.
While we were on our driving vacation this year, I noticed that we were going pretty close to Pawhuska, so I planned it so that we went through the town.
My wife was looking forward to it and I was looking forward to her having the opportunity to check it out.
We spent around two hours there in the Mercantile. We weren't there at the right time to have a meal so we didn't try the restaurant, but we did get a couple of the baked goods from upstairs at the store.
There wasn't as much to see as I think either of us thought there would be. We took out time looking around and the two hours was more than enough. My wife found a couple of small souvenirs and then we hit the road again.
I'm glad we stopped and checked it out. It was a good break during a long day of driving and it's something I'd been wanting her to be able to do and see for a long time.‬

‪I love the Pioneer Woman and thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Pawhuska. We arrived on Thursday and had dinner at P-Town. Friday morning we had breakfast at the mercantile and later dinner. The food was amazing for both meals. Huge portions, hot, fresh and tasty. Staff members were very nice and helpful. We also got treats from the bakery and the pecan pie was probably the best I have ever eaten (as a GA girl that is saying something!). Shopping in the merc was fun and I came out with several fun souvenirs.‬
