Excellent historic and vintage auto and vehicle museum located in the former factory of the Boyertown Auto Body Works, a vehicle chassis fabricator. Electric vehicles were big in their business plan [What is old is now new!]. In addition to vehicles displays also tell the story about the company and other supporting infrastructure. One of the few displays in the country of a awarded “Army-Navy “E”” for war production excellence during WWII on display with the actual wartime products. Museum traces the evolution of transportation and vehicles with the evolving history of this local manufacturer. Museum is accessible and very reasonable priced. It is well worth the trip to Boyertown which offers other scenic and historic attractions for a nice day trip.

Another one of those "hidden gems" that so often pop up unexpectedly when driving around the Keystone State.
Boyertown Museum is dedicated to Pennsy's "vehicle transportation history", featuring dozens of antique trucks and cars in pristine condition and amazingly cared for (I dare you to find dust on any of the exhibits), all for less than the cost of a movie ticket.
In addition, there's an amazing section re-creating an actual carriage manufacturing workshop with tools and belt-driven lathes, drills and sanders.
There is even an immaculately restored old-time diner and gas station.
I was amazed to learn that electric vehicles were marketed towards women during the Model T era because they didn't need to be crank started and didn't give off noxious exhaust fumes. But, get this, they fell out of favor because they could only travel a short distance before needing to be charged. Hmm, sounds like much hasn't changed over the last 100 years!
Think GPS is a modern invention? Think again. In the early 1900s, drivers could buy a rudimentary map system that was connected to one's odometer. Amazing!
Whether you are young or old, you need to make the effort to visit this wonderful depository of PA's automotive history. You'll be glad you did.

.Being able to stand next to so many restored antique carriages, bicycles five feet high, cars and trucks from other eras in a large friendly museum.was thrilling So many interesting accessories, batteries, oil tins and tools to view up close. Women behind the horse and steering wheel are represented along with their early driving outfits. We especially enjoyed spinning on the stools while sitting in their 1938 diner and explaining to our six year old granddaughter about things seen that she'll never experience like a crank up wall phone. The vehicles are chronologically arranged so we could easily follow the evolution of road transportation and automotive luxuries that we now take for granted. Hands on items are limited for young children with the exception of a bumper car and the diner. If you're an old car enthusiast this is a museum to see.

We felt the museum is worth a visit, my husband, our teen daughters and myself. We are car novices. It had cars from 1920s, 30s, 40s, and 50s.The collection ranged from sleighs to a Conestoga wagon to trucks. It was interesting that each of the vehicles either originated or were customized in the Boyertown area or in PA. My daughters were impressed with the relocated, local diner and the Carriage shop with an active blacksmith. The cars were in excellent condition. No food is sold there and a closet for a gift shop.
Special thanks to Dave, the docent, for enlightening us as we toured the museum. We learned so much more than by watching "Ford V Ferrari."
(I rarely give 5 stars, just one of my quirks)

Recently visited this museum during a staycation. I wasn't real thrilled about going at first. But, my husband likes to look at old cars and he always does everything I want so I thought it only fair to do something that he wanted to do. I was very pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it. There was a lot of history there and it was cool to see how cars have changed so drastically over the years. It is not a huge museum and if you don't read everything, you could probably be in and out in under an hour. We were actually there for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. We read most of the info on the cars and really enjoyed ourselves. It wasn't crowded so we were able to take our time and linger. On the day that we were there, the Jeremiah Sweinhart Carriage Factory was open to view. This is the place where the horse drawn carriages were made. (It's on the 2nd floor of the museum.) There were some carriages from the 1800's there and that was the most fascinating part to me.
The cost of entry was $10 ($9 if you have AAA). The museum was extremely clean and laid out very nicely. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it was really nice. There is ample parking across the street and it is fairly easy to get to.
I'd highly recommend visiting this museum especially if you like to look at cars and the history of cars. I would definitely go back to visit again.

This museum features many rare Pennsylvania built vehicles. Carriage shop was a nice added feature. Each vehicle was clearly labeled and the museum was laid out in a way that you could see and enjoy each vehicle. The staff is excellent. Friendly, warm, courteous. It was a great stop!

Here you will find an excellent assortment of vehicles from the last century. Many cool cars, a local diner (inside the building) and a few classics. Even if you are not a car buff - you will enjoy this place.

I took a motorcoach group to visit this museum after our train ride on the Colebrookdale RR for lunch. What a nice museum - just 3 min ride from the RR - they had a wonderful selection of vehicles, motorbikes, bicycles, trucks, gas station & diner from the 1800 - 1900's some in mint condition - their docents were very knowledgeable and very interactive with my clients which they loved - we all totally enjoyed this visit - a nice ending to our beautiful day.

This Museum may be little known but it is top notch in terms of restored transportation of many kinds. Who knew PA produced so many wonderful vehicles? They share an important history of transportation and it's done in a tasteful and "doable" environment.

A wonderful and fascinating collection of old cars, trucks, and more. Even if you’re not into old vehicles you will enjoy this nostalgic place. Kudos to all those volunteers who make this place work.

That depends on how interested you are in cars. My husband like read everything and takes lots of pictures. Our bus trip we were only allowed to spend about 1 hour, because we had to meet the dinner train. We want to go back someday. Hope you enjoy your visit. there is lot todo in Boyertown.

Anything activities for toddlers?

No, sadly this is not a venue for toddlers. There are too many antique vehicles and parts, I would be going crazy trying to keep them entertained and still enjoy any part of the day at the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles. And I am a grand mom who often has grands with me so I understand the toddler need for activity. =)
