Good hikes. Busy cause of Mother’s Day but was still nice. I would definitely come back with my dog- there were dogs both on and off leash.

The short of it: Have a backup plan because if the ranch cancels your reservation, no one will call to inform you (see story below).
We made reservations on a Friday morning for a Sunday afternoon ride. We spoke with one of the owners twice over the phone when making this reservation. During the calls we brought up the possibility of rain in the forecast and asked whether that would cancel our trip. We were told that the ride would resume rain or shine, and that we could purchase a poncho at Walmart if we were worried about getting wet. In fact, we were told, "You'll be in the forest and the trees will protect you from most of the rain," as well as general advise concerning attire for the ride. We were also told a lot of people wait for this specific season to go riding because it's much cooler out. Sunday's forecast turned out to be merely scattered showers, so we made the two hour drive from Pittsburgh to the ranch. Once we arrived, we were greeted by a ghost town and irritated customers who had booked a morning ride and had been waiting for nearly two hours for someone to show up. An hour later, there were six adults and two small children wondering what was going on.
The office and mess hall were open but no one was inside. The staging area had a lone horse tied up and the shed with saddles and gear was wide open.
After an hour of waiting, someone staying at the ranch told us that they were closed for the day because of the rain. None of us had received a phone call informing us of the cancellation, and we exchanged our similarities in stories of being assured we would be riding rain or shine that day. This is perhaps the most upsetting part about the experience -- customer service. A call would have saved us time, gas money, and overall disappointment.
Be sure to have a backup plan if you make reservations here because you may end up driving all that way for nothing.

We rode last year a one hour and enjoyed it so much we went back this year for a two hour ride. Tom is a wonderful guide and great with kids!

This place is definitely a must do at Cook’s Forest! Great for the entire family. I called on Monday and made reservations for Thursday. Upon arrival we were greeted immediately. The staff are super friendly and our guide Mailee was awesome. Everyone takes super great care of all the horses. I highly suggest this place for a family friendly experience.

Visited July 2020. Had a really good time my 11 yr old daughter loved the ride. We did a 2 hour trail ride and it was so much fun. Our guide was quiet but very nice and friendly. I saw other reviews went on a ride that included a creek ride which ours didn't but it was still an awesome ride. Up and down hills and valleys.

We made reservations at this place specifically because the ride took you through Clarion River. When we got there to check in they couldn’t find our reservations and they couldn’t accommodate us. My daughter who is 10 was looking forward to this because she never been on a trail ride that took you through the river. We called other places that have trail ride that took you through the river and they were all booked up since this weekend was fall autumn festival.

Great time! We never rode before and with a few quick pointers from Tom we were riding the trail. Our 5 year old daughter rode her own horse and Tom led her through the trails with no problem. She loved it and wanted to go for another ride when we got back. Highly recommend this for a quick activity (we did the 1 hour) with the family.

We took a 2 hour trail ride through the woods, horses were gentle, trail guide was very enjoyable. Had not ridden in a few years and it was an easy ride.

Two adults and 2 college kids enjoyed a nice 2 hour ride through Cook Forest. Never imagined we would get to cross and briefly ride in creeks to boot. We are NOT horse people but everything went well. This place is probably even better for people who bring their own horses to ride, but all are welcome and well taken care of. Staff was helpful and horses were friendly. If you don't ride regularly 2 hours is probably the perfect amount to try, #anymoreandyouwillbesaddlesore.
