‪We stayed in the Ridge Campground, very nice campground and facilities. The camp sites are spaced out. Across the street from the Campground entrance is the road to the fire tower and Seneca point , its a short hike from the parking lot. If you go less then a half mile down Route 36 you will find the State park office if you park in the upper lot and take the birch trail that's across the street its a short walk to the swinging bridge. If your looking for the Henry Run Sawmill Dam it was roughly a 2.6 mile round trip hike if you park on Gravel Lick Road and hike East on the North Country trail. Around 1/3 of a mile in there is a nice overlook called Scurry Overlook with a bench and great view of the river, from there follow the trail until you get to the dirt road make a left and cross the wooden bridge go right the waterfall is 100 yards in front of you. There is so much to do these are just a few things we did.‬

‪Enjoyed hiking through the forest. There are many cabins and stop areas for canoe rental along the Clarion river. We chose Seneca point and the fire tower for a quick hike. You can climb the fire tower and see wonderful views over the canopy. It does get a little chilly. There is a dirt road that you have to drive over to get to the parking lot. There are restrooms available too. ‬

‪I’ve been coming to Cook Forest since I was 6 months old. I still feel like a kid when I go there. So much to check out but it is just the best place to unplug and find peace!‬

‪After years of wanting to visit, I finally got to explore this state park. Its beautiful with lots of wonderful trails to explore. We did the paved trail, and saw some moss. Then the Longfellow combined with the ancient forest, which took us through some old trees. We also parked near the fire tower and Seneca Point to see these two. Then took the River trail down to Henry Saw Mill Dam so we could se the only waterfall in the park. Its not a big waterfall at all, but it was still a great hike with scenery along the way.

So many trails to explore so hoping to go back someday and see more. Maybe in the fall when the leaves are changing. Or the summer when we can do stuff on teh clarion river. We were there early May and it was sort of a colder and wetter weekend. In a way it was nice as their wasn't many people around and we had the forest where we were to ourselves most of the time. Beautiful park worth exploring.‬

‪We visited to area for its amazing fall splender. This area is beautiful at anytime but this fall the colors with the blue sky and bright sun was amazing. Along the Clarion River there are picnic tables so you can have a meal along the river. Seneca Point and the Fire tower are places you can the landscape for miles.‬

‪Hike in Cook’s Forest...The “Cathedral” was a beautiful stand of trees...some 300+ years old. Trails were wide. Swinging bridge was cool.
1. I thought the trails could have been
marked better.
2. Some trails had huge trees lying
across them; which were difficult to
climb over.‬

‪This isn't a review of the park (which is great) but of the park map and signing in the park. We were first time visitors and only knew that the park was an old growth forest that we wanted to see. We headed to the Forest Cathedral looking for trailheads. Who would think to go to the "Environmental Learning Center"? which turned out to be what most places call the Info or Visitor Center. At the trailhead the only trail that is described is the Longfellow Trail - there was no info on all the others (distance, difficulty, etc). The map gives them names ... info at the trailhead calls them numbers or colors. Road signs in the park are as bad with few roads marked - at one point we were on a road that we later figured out was a bike path. I've been to lots of national/state/county parks this was by far the most confusing.‬

‪I haven’t been camping in Cook Forest since I was a kid. Ridge Park was great. We have an RV and we were in site # 213.

There were tons of things to do - even during this pandemic - we went hiking everyday and kayaking but the water was really low. We even got to witness a wedding at Seneca Point. Seeing Rhododendrons in full bloom in the middle of the Forest was just beautiful.

The office at the park remained closed the entire week we were there but the ranger office was just down the road.

When you read in other posts that there is spotty internet - believe it. Spotty is an understatement. Cell service was fine but I could not send/receive texts or email. Every evening there was a group of people heading to the fire tower so they could get internet.

The campground was clean and well kept. The bathrooms are maintained daily but I ended up cleaning the sinks at least once while we were there.

There were some rowdy squatters that camped near us but the Ranger waited while they packed up and escorted them off the property.

All in all we had a blast and look forward to coming back.‬

‪This forest is so beautiful and worth the trip to visit. The facilities were clean and the park is dog friendly. Even though some trails are labeled more difficult we found them easy. ‬
