Quick scenic river walks. Nice bridges. The walking bridge has metal grating over half of the path so one can see through it and view the water beneath.

We had a blast walking around City Island. We crossed the bridge talked with some fisherman and watched the sunset.

Beautiful mini-golf course at the end of the island. Reasonably priced. We had to park by the bridge at the opposite end of the island because there was a Senators ball game in progress, but the walk was nice. There was even a couple of swings around the 11th hole where you could take a break and enjoy the view. It looked like they were still sprucing up the place as the water features were not clean or full but there was fresh mulch around the plants and the grass was well maintained. All in all, a beautiful course. I'd love to see it again later in the summer.

we went to walk around to stretch our legs after a long drive. it was so cute! small island in the middle of the river that had paved trails, a walking bridge into Harrisburg. a minor league ball field is on the island also. we did not see a game, but i imagine it is a great place to take the family to see a game as there are picnic tables, paved trails, play grounds, booths for sales, and in the summer a boat ride. it was a chilly rainy April day when we were there, but there were lots of people walking around. we did not explore the entire island, but was pleasantly surprised by what we did see.

City Island is walkable from the downtown area. It has a River boat, a baseball stadium, places to eat and a beach. It’s very clean.

The city tries to make this location something more than it is. The walking bridge, from the island to the city, is unique. The walking bridge from the island to Wormleysburg, has been washed out for years. The paddle boat is docked here and is a unique experience however, has limits as the river is shallow and the boat is very small. At the end of the day this is simply the location of the baseball stadium and its parking lot.

City island is an easy walk from downtown over a bridge. The island is in the middle of the Susquehanna river. The Senators, Harrisburg's AA Baseball team, have an excellent stadium in the middle of the island and although we were there after baseball season, our son confirmed the games are excellent in the summer months. The island also hosts other events, although not during our visit in November. Definitely check the calendar. Also saw lots of paddle boats and party boats docked for the winter, which can be rented in the summer.

We took kids on our mission trip to City Island for a "night out." It is a fun place to go. we treated them to ice cream and putt-putt golf. There was a lot of life on the island as there were volleyball games going on as well. I recommend visiting it.

We are thinking of bringing our family to visit City Island on May 7th. Will there be anything open? All the reviews show after Memorial Day.

Even without the Senators there are still things to do. There is a playground for kids, a mini golf course, batting cages, an arcade, volley ball courts, a little "beach", and a walking trail. If you have time Riverfront park is just across the bridge and features stunning views of the river, also the Capitol complex is within walking distance and is worth a visit.

Can someone give me information on the City Island Beach. Is it open to the public? Is there a fee? Do you have to park at the other end of the island to go to the beach and if not where is the closest parking to the beach? What all do they have at the beach?

The "beach" is sloped concrete approximating a natural beach at the northern end of the island. I believe that there is no charge to use it. You have to park in the center of the island next to the baseball stadium, or at the southern end. I believe that the parking is free, except for summer evenings and Sunday afternoons when the minor league Harrisburg Senators are playing at the stadium.
They rent kayaks on the island, have food vendors & ice cream, and there is the riverboat that you can ride, plus an arcade and small gauge steam railroad rides & carousel, nature trail and miniature golf. A nice place.

You can - the current is swift so bring heavy sinkers... not too many places to fish from though...
Are the shops open on the weekdays and if so, how late are they open. Like the ice cream shop and mini golf.

Mini golf and ice cream/snack stand are open 10-10 daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day: other times vary and weather permitting.
