There is nothing like being able to view a beautiful place on the coast like the perspective of being on a sailboat with a good wind, good companions, and a great crew. Capitán Ralph and first mate Elias were our hosts on this magnificent day on the water. All we had to do was sit and enjoy the ride. And did I mention that the trip included a lunch of the best chicken wraps that I have ever had. Also, we were treated to the Capitan's EXTENSIVE knowledge of sailing, the coast , and the history of the area. It is what I would call an UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that you could not get anywhere else in SJDS. Muchas Gracias to Ralph and crew!!!

A perfect day of sailing with Captain Ralph and his Exploradores Marinos (Sea Scouts) from San Juan del Sur on the steady Eagle Dancer. Learned so much about the area from Ralph as we sailed from San Juan del Sur. First a short jaunt north to see Nacascolo Bay then turning South to the El Faro Lighthouse, various beaches such as Playa Penas Rota, El Remanozo, Hermosa and more towards Saleinas Bay through the gorgeous rock columns. Throughout our day we say dozens of sea turtles, a breaching whale and jumping fish. The sailing crew made us lunch and snacks and we finished the day with a hearty cheers and a setting sun. Perfection! Highly recommended and a great value for a day at sea.

To thoroughly enjoy Nicaragua's coastline try boarding Captain Ralph's sailboat "No Bad Days". The crew are extremely knowledgeable of the area and Ralph adds wonderful vignettes along the way. A great lunch is also provided along with beverages although I highly recommend bringing extra water! Great experience!

My husband and I met Captain Ralph and his lovely wife, quite by coincidence, in Managua, only one day after arriving in Nicaragua. As Ralph described his boat, No Bad Days, and his work with the Exploradores Marinos, we knew this was on our "must do" list when we got to San Juan del Sur.
Simply stated, it was a grand day out. No detail was left unaddressed. There were delicious snacks, prepared and presented by the Scouts, almost 100 photos dropped into our e mail two days after the sail, a spectacular cruise up the Pacific coast to a beautiful sandy lagoon for a (chilly and refreshing) swim, and stories and laughter for the whole afternoon.
Having lived in San Juan for over 9 years, Captain Ralph knows the region exceptionally well. He delighted in telling us the history and stories of the development of the coast line. All the while, he is coaching and mentoring the Sea Scouts in the art of sailing, English language, and human relations. As we came back into the harbor at dark, we found ourselves sorry our day at sea was over. It was everything we hoped it would be and more.
Many thanks to Ralph and the Sea Scouts for a most wonderful and memorable afternoon.

Had the priviledge of sailing with the Sea Scouts out of San Juan del Sur during my last visit. I have known about the sail for a number of years but for one reason or another never did make the time to go. I am so glad that the time was made on this trip. We had an absolute blast with Ralph and his Scouts. Having been on a few sails out of SJdS, over the years of visiting my folks, this was wonderful surprise full of good wholesome fun. A sail I would highly recommend. And at the same time able to help benefit the local Sea Scouts.

We had a great adventure with our group of eight on the No Bad Days with Captain Ralph and Sea Scouts, Carlos and Lukas.
Carlos and Lukas did a wonderful job sailing the boat as Captain Ralph shared some of San Juan del Sur history with us. We sailed North to a seclude bay where we cooled off in the crystal blue waters. On the way back to San Juan del Sur we saw dolphins and a full moon behind the light house.
Great way to see the Pacific Coast line.

We've stayed at Park Avenue Villas several times, but hadn't yet gone out with Ralph and the Sea Scouts on his sailboat. That was a mistake. My husband and I had a wonderful time, and Ralph made it so much fun! He's a character, and he made us laugh the entire trip! He has a foundation that helps train local Nicaraguans on how to sail, so it was educational too. The kids did a great job, and we loved sailing along the Nicaraguan coastline. We also dropped anchor for about an hour at a beach we had never been to (Playa Blanca). What a beautiful beach! We enjoyed all of Ralph's stories about the coastline, and the history too. They told us to just bring sunscreen and your bathing suits and they'd provide the rest. They did! My husband and I have traveled the Caribbean to the Great Barrier Reef, and this was, by far, the best afternoon sail we've ever taken. Ralph and the whole group just made the experience FUN! You have to laugh and relax. No Bad Days totally fits the sailboat and its captain!

We spent a great afternoon with Ralph and the Sea Scouts he's teaching to sail. The tour gave us great views of the coast and landed us on Playa Blanca, a deserted white sand beach where we were able to swim, snorkel, and beachcomb. A perk of choosing this sailing tour is that the proceeds go toward helping local kids learn English and go to university.

It was an amazing day of sailing and seeing the beautiful coast of San Juan Del Sur. We swam to secluded beaches, saw dolphins, heard about the history of San Juan, and enjoyed a day of sailing with captain Ralph Hewitt. Ralph took many pictures during the 4 hours of sailing and emailed them to us. He is very informative, knows a lot about the history of San Juan. He is also very involved in the community, giving and teaching to the community.
