Wow, what an amazing site. I would strongly recommend that you stop by to visit this historical landmark. It is located a while away from the entrance but there is a free bus that takes and returns you. You'll probably have people in all of your photos so be prepared.

Went on the queen’s jubilee and there was a gun salute so very busy on arrival but excellent by the army involved. Extremely well organised shuttle buses to and from the stones. Enjoyed our walk round and brilliant exhibition. Gift shop a little expensive but as expected in these sort of places, some lovely items very well stocked. Plenty of parking and as we are heritage members all free. Loved seeing the stones would return

Absolut värt att se även om det kostar en slant. Du löser biljett och tar bussen till stenarna eller går på ca 25 min. Turistigt ja men värt att se

You have blocked off the ancestral home of the jackdaws - remove the anti bird netting please. The birds have been at home in the monument for thousands of years.

Stonehenge is very impressive to see up close. The way the stones are stacked defies logic, as there is no good
explanation as to how they were lifted upon each other and how they got to that location to begin with. It is a
marvel to think how this was done thousands of years ago.

While on holiday in London, I decided to rent a car and drive out west to see Stonehenge in the morning and Windsor Castle on the way back. It was a great day. We were fortunate at Stonehenge since it was not very crowded and it was a beautiful day. We booked our tickets in advance at the UK Heritage website. It was simple enough. This made it easy once we got there to immediately go through the entrance. You can park outside in an ample parking lot. They have a small museum about the structure, bathrooms and a small cafe. You can either walk to the monument or take a bus. I wouldn't say it is a long walk but it might be about half a mile or so. So, if you have trouble walking or if you are on a tight time-table (like we were since we were going to Windsor), you might want to take the bus. Once up there, you can walk the perimeter. You can't actually go up to the stones - can you blame them. The security/attendants are very friendly and will tell you about the history and even take a family picture for you with your phone/camera. All in all, it was a good trip. My one recommendation would be to go a bit later in the day - this will ensure the sun is on the western side and give you full sun on the side where you are closest to the stones. When you are on the Eastern side of the stones, you are a good 100-200 yards away while on the Western side, you might be about 30.

Should go...

This was on my wanted to do places to see. I like a walk but decided to get the shuttle bus from outside the ticket office that takes you to the stones, they run regularly so there isn't much waiting time. Although you cannot get too close to the stones it was still worth seeing abit of history, there was loads of people who had the same idea the day I visited or maybe it's such a popular attraction that its always seems busy. I spent about 25 mins walking round the outside rope put up too keep your distance from the stones but was near enough for viewing. On the way back there is the usual gift shop but the prices are off putting.

Overrated , Over priced, thankfully we didn't pay the fee, and you dont need to
You can walk up the free path right next to the paid path and at the end be about 30 metres away from the paid section

Does the Stonehenge tour bus ticket include the entrance to Stonehenge and Old Sarum?
Peter S
Sheffield, UK24 مساهمة
No, both Old Sarum and Stonehenge are separate English Heritage sites with separate tickets and entry requirements for both. The sites are about 10 miles away from each other. I hope that helps?
I'd like to visit Stonehenge for the Winter Solstice this year. I don't drive so will be staying in a hotel in Salisbury, does anyone know if there is a shuttle bus or a coach that can take me to the stones from Salisbury in time for the sunrise?
Also, it looks like you need to book tickets for normal entry but is it open access on the solstice? Thank you!

If I was to Park on Fargo Road to get to Stonehenge for a quick stop off, does anyone know the route I need to take from Fargo Road? Seems to be quite a long road surrounded by farm land?

It is a very long walk but if you prefer it, then it can be done
How far from stonehenge can you walk up to?

The adjacent land is managed by NT and there are some burial mounds around. The walk from the visitor office is nice though it can be muddy.

Not sure. Can’t recall if we had to show ticket when went in but you definitely do when starting walk to Stones.
How far is the walk from Fargo road to the stones also has anyone got a photo they may have taken from this viewpoint, just trying to save a bit of money this upcoming October half term !

Where do you park exactly to walk up the footpath?
We are only coming for a quick look on the way to Cheddar. The entry fee is far too much for a quick 20 minutes.

There is a public road that will take you to Stonehenge. It is a gravel road with potholes and you will see lots of camper vans.
We did this last year rather than use the official car park and pay the high entrance prices. There is a charge to park the car which is refunded when you purchase the entrance ticket.
Look for Fargo Road on the sat nav. It will bring you to Stonehenge. Park your car on the dirt road then go on the public footpath. It should be a short walk.
This is a public right of way and you can go on this path for free and cannot be stopped by the officials who check for tickets.

Holiday Inn near Stonehenge, Premier Inn in Amesbury.
For Witch shops, Glastonbury High Street is full of them, about one hour drive from Stonehenge with plenty of Bed and Breakfast accommodation, a Premier Inn and a Travel Lodge.

We are stopping at Stonehenge on our way to Cornwall so will have our dog with us. Can we walk towards to stone circle with our dog but not around it? Or does one of us need to stay by the visitor centre with him?

Save your money. Park on the public byway and you can walk down the public footpath next to Stonehenge for free and still get a great view.

Does this tour include entrance to the inner circle at Stonehenge?
Victoria M
Glastonbury, UK43 مساهمة
Check website of English Heritage. Private entry can be booked or go into some circle and experience the magnificent giants when Druids perform Dawn ceremony at spring /autumn equinox, mid winter Solstice, or all night from 7ppm to 9am at summer solstice 🙏
