Best place to go to see bluebells in the spring but would recommend a walk in all year round. Ideal for kids

As soon as we entered the woods the rain started but it was magical as it took a good ten minutes for it to penetrate the canopy above us.
The peace and quite was a delight - no one else about.
We discovered the true beauty of the place as the sun came out on our leaving.

This is a great location for seeing bluebells and building dens.
On this visit the aroma from the bluebells were marvellous. What a great place to take the grand-children and build dens.

Ample car parking available and absolutely beautiful when the bluebells are out. Plenty of useful info boards advising walks etc

Been today (27th April) and although the bluebells still have to come into full bloom our walk didn’t disappoint. We park in the Clatford Bottom car park at the east end of the woods then walking south climb the hillside opposite the car park until meeting the Wansdyke path. Turn right in a westerly direction and follow the dyke to the edge of the woods. Stay on this path with the open fields to your left & wood to your right until it goes downhill. In the bottom of the dip turn right into the heart of the woods passing through Hursley Bottom. You need to climb the hillside on your right at some point to get up onto the ridge, there are several paths to choose from. Here you will find a wide track that takes you back to the car park. A circular walk of some 3+ miles.
Even with the extra number of people about at the moment West Woods always seems to be a place of tranquility, with its flowers & birdsong it is certainly special. Would strongly recommend a visit.

West woods is away from the main road along a country road. There is good parking but like everywhere please keep valuables with you or locked away from sight. Most of the time there is a lot of coming and going so can be a little busy.
You can follow paths leading off the road and find your own adventure, wellies or good walking boots are advisable, dogs are plentiful ideal place for them to sniff and roam around. Children can find wigwams made from branches to stretch their imagination
, take some wax crayons and paper and do some tree rubbing or checkout the flora. Listen to woodpeckers, young buzzards calling waiting to be fed, bird song... a love,6 place to visit. Good place to meet up with friends and family take a picnic . The lions ask for donations when the bluebells are in flower.beautiful.

Easy to access an a pleasant place for a walk, even with those who don’t find it easy. However, in May when the bluebells flower it is quite spectacular. It never seems to get crowded and a true sense of magic prevails close to sunset.

These are just fantastic, nature at it's best.
We went on the Lyins club open day when you can drive a lot further than on normal days, well worth it

Took the dog and headed off to see the blue bells. The car park is small.there are loads of paths though out the wood which ment it was easy to get lost and disorientated which i did. There are no signs through the wood with directions on and take note you will only get a phone signel in certain places and its not a strong one. The paths are good though and certainly worth a visit

Hi, Bernie! Which way did you go into the woods? I want to visit to paint a picture, but I don't want to see the same kind of devastation that you did (and which was all too obvious last year, from the Lockeridge side, alas). Such a shame.

Hi Pam , sorry for the slow reply but my 'puter died and I only got it fixed finally this week and have only just got on to TA again. I would think you have already attended the woods. But in case you haven't as you drive up the fire road to the car park the woods on yr left remain unmolested! Regards Bernie
